Unlike at the start of OT, Kamachi immediately gets started into a proper story arc that persists through volumes. Other characters start to take on bigger roles in the series too. The seeds you didn't even notice being planted at the start of OT also start to come into bloom.

As always, Index is funny, exciting and original. New Testament is Index having found its stride and come into its own. <<less

The first time I read volume 1, I had thought the source material was weaker than its adaptations. Yes, at the time, I just couldn't understand it. I lamented that it wasn't more action-packed. Yet, about 6 months later, I decided to give it another chance. This time, I knew what I was getting into. And this time, it cl**ked with me.

Often, the things I enjoy the most are actually things I dislike the first time round. My favorite director of all time, Wong Kar Wai, for example. The first time I saw Chungking Express, I thought it was weird and I didn't really enjoy it. Some years later though, it cl**ked with me, and I liked it all the more. I grew to understand it. This series is the same.

This isn't going to be like your typical novel. The prose is more akin to a non-stop rant that waffles about all sorts of economics, philosophy, psychology, religion and history. The footnotes will have niche references to the Japanese version of uncyclopedia, recommendations for you to play paradox interactive games and more. Carlo Zen really sums what he's about in the afterword of Volume 1. <<less
