Why are the Protagonist Gong and Shou Fighting Because of Me?

Tang Bai was born into a wealthy family. His body was soft and slender, and he loved to act spoiled. His family searched far and wide to find him a handsome and rich prospective fiancé. However, the prospective fiancé liked independent and strong omegas and was very resistant to this business marriage.

One day, Tang Bai’s brain short circuited, causing him to believe that he lived in a book. He was the cannon fodder shou, and his prospective fiancé was the protagonist gong. The protagonist shou, Xie Ruheng, was a strong, independent omega of the new era who pretended to be an alpha. In the future, he would become a marshal and the light of the omegas.

No wonder the love-filled bento that he worked super hard to make was rejected by his prospective fiancé who didn’t even look at it. Tang Bai’s eyes reddened as he turned around. He saw that Xie Ruheng was eating the horrible tasting training meal. How could the future light of the omegas eat this kind of devil’s cruise that was fed to the pigs?

Tang Bai shyly said: “This was personally made by me. Us omegas need to pay attention to our diet and take care of our bodies~”

Xie Ruheng: ……?

The first time Xie Ruheng saw Tang Bai, he thought that even when this omega cried, he was still like the omega of his dreams. Although Tang Bai was virtuous, delicate, beautiful, and cute, he already had a prospective fiancé!

Xie Ruheng expressed with grief: “I won’t be the third party.”

Tang Bai was extremely moved, thinking that Xie Ruheng had already become good sisters with him and wouldn’t come to steal his man. There was a saying that Alphas were like clothes and good sisters were like one’s hands and feet. Don’t worry, I will definitely take good care of you!

Xie Ruheng: ……

Very soon, Xie Ruheng heard a rumor. Tang Bai’s prospective fiancé hated Tang Bai, but he couldn’t defy the orders of his family, so he could only create trouble for Tang Bai everywhere.

Xie Ruheng: This is the omega of my dreams that I want to hold in the palm of my hands, and you actually don’t cherish him? tr*sh!

Xie Ruheng: Isn’t it just stealing a man? So sweet.

Tang Bai found out in horror: Why are the protagonist gong and shou fighting because of me?!

Tang Bai: Oh! They must have a love and hate relationship!

I have yet to finish this one but I know that I will ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I am totally giving it 5 stars. I might as well read it in mtl or wait for the fully translated chapters of this novel.

The novel really deserves a 5 stars!!! And if one day, I would really love to read it in a manhwa version too.

A really excellent novel, a definite page turner.

The vibe reminds me a bit of "Legally Blonde, " so if you liked the movie/musical, this would be a great read~

I'm sure many readers have already lauded this novel so the main points don't really need to be repeated, but here goes:

  • strong MC + strong ML
  • not like other ABO novels where oppression is eroticized; this one is about hope, equality and social change
  • the author actually parodies "green tea hate" -- I especially thought this point was amazing because what authors or readers typically demonize in "green tea women" are just women who appear more promiscuous by being more confident or aggressive in their dating strategies or have a more obvious sexuality (which, by the way, would be lauded in men) -- surprisingly, the author understood this and instead of adding hate onto the double standard, uses the main character to parody it
  • Spoiler

    loved the divorce segment

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

loved that the alt timeline ended in unabashed OO love

    [collapse]
  • Spoiler

loved that MC even created a game for simulating pregnancy

fantastic novel.

Translation is not the best, edited MTL (except SilverNekoScanlations), so I would think that MTL wouldn't be too bad.

My good lord, I don't even know how to feel about this novel, after the absolutely ridiculous amount of time I've spent with it. I began this all the way back in August. August! It's been seven months, more than half a year, though of course two months of that were at basic, and one month of that spent on another novel. Still, it had usually taken me one month to finish reading a novel in Chinese... this one just really took forever, especially the extras, which I thought would... more>> never end. As a point of comparison, I've finished Anne Bishop's entire thirteen-book series, The Black Jewels, in the last month, and that was while I was reading this book, too.

But I couldn't help it. After getting to the twentieth chapter or so back in August, I just could not stop myself, I had to keep reading, which was an insane decision, especially since the translator was so quick with their updates. But I suppose it was a justified decision, seeing as, even all these months later, I've finished it, and they're still less than halfway... and apparently the translation has fallen in quality. But I always enjoy novels so much less when I can't have speed. I hadn't come back to this page ever since I left off reading the translation, I was afraid I'd come here to find out they'd finished.

The author was pretty good with their grammar, no 在 and 再 mixups, the worst was a few repeated characters. I suppose it's a good message, but after a while, it just got a little sickly sweet for me. Tang Bai was perfectly Mary Sue, and everything went perfectly well for him, there was nothing he couldn't do... I mean, I like Mary Sue characters, but not when they're combined with a virg*n Mary character.
Spoiler

My favorite part was the wife-chasing crematorium part with Li Songyun, though it was a shame Gu Mian didn't manage to catch him at the crematorium.

In all, a good book, relatively painless to read. My longest yet. I'm proud of that. I'll have to be quite careful before jumping into another pit... It's so hard to find good novels these days. <<less

I MTL’d because I was so interested in this story, and I was not disappointed.

This is the best omegaverse I’ve ever read. It’s also the best BL. I adored both the MC and ML, and the themes they explore are close to my heart.

This is really good

Aside from the main characters, I really adore the side character

Madam Gu dan Gu Tainan characters development

The mysterious prince from empire

etc

All of the side characters has their own unique story

I feel sad that it end in around 134 chapters

Phew. Done MTLing the whole novel in 3 days. And ngl I was crying a little bit.

I gotta say that the first half of the novel focused more on MC & ML relationship building, while the second half is focused more on the big conflict. Along the way, they're talking about the huge problem within omegaverse society: yknow, like the superiority of alphas & how omegas are rarely had the chance to stand up for themselves. It's pretty much mirroring the reality of women in patriarchy society. The character development... more>> is very VERY GOOD, some conservative minds got some enlightments & realize that what they did are wrong. AND SURPRISINGLY, the author didn't put much focus on protag gong (but his character development is still very visible), BECAUSE I feel like the author wanted to show 2 side of abo couples: the good (MC & ml) and the bad, which is...
Spoiler

the protagonist gong's parents. I'm thoroughly shock when the author put more focus on their conflict & how being perfect is not always good. it's truly sad when the omega father just got pressured by his family for deciding to divorce his husband. but THANK GOD the husband is finally willing to let him go & learn his mistakes. it's kinda bittersweet & I cried a little bit.

Came for some brain dead fluff and was positively surprised

the character growth in the MC is wonderful so far

Spoiler

he went from being the stereotypical weak omega to slowly realizing the injustice and oppression he faces in his day to day life and wanting to change that. It really made me see the parallel between the oppression women feel in todays society and the world the author constructed. Omegas are always taught to stay at home, dress appropriately to not provoke an alphas desire and then get married and have kids, only to be shamed if they are assaulted. It really makes it clear how both Os and woman are so harshly discriminated against and I do hope that should any man read this, they’ll learn something from it.

At first the MC only wanted to support the ML who he believes to be a secret O, but later on he realizes that he too can try to change things and actively does that. He has his own interests and honestly thinks about what he can do to improve his and other O’s situation in society.

[collapse]

Obviously there will be misunderstandings between the MC and the ML and others vying for MC’s attention. The basics of these kinds of stories. But the MC does have a 3 D personality and isn’t just some weak omega that needs to be protected and loses all sense of self once an alpha shows up. The ML also respects the MC’s opinions and supports him in pursuing his dreams.

TLDR: good story, good characters, I’m looking forward to how things will develop <<less

This is my first ABO novrl so I didn't know what to expect but I was surprised how good it was.

This world discriminate against omega but our MC start to change the world view that even omega can do it.

I enjoyed it and happy that I found this type of story, now I can't stop reading "yaoi" and still have much to explore. ;)

best abo I've read so far.

my favorite part was actually the extra with the "original" plot, true to the feeling and tragic love of two omegas.

Can't say much about the story since I kinda forgot (i read it almost 2 years ago), but I kinda liked how it tackled being an omega in these universe, can't help but relate since gender equality is an arduous process

This is such a pleasant surprise of a read. I was expecting a typical damsel in distress ABO story, but it turned into a story with a spunky MC. There are underlying themes on social views that the author touches on--deep enough to be thoughtful, shallow enough to keep the story light hearted. I found myself giggling through a lot of moments and wanting to march with picket signs the next. Unlike a lot of ABO, there is actually some healthy thinking from the A ML side.

I cried so much! I was engaged in reading every chapter, either making me think it was well written or just one of my preferred genre choice. Although, I recognized that the novels that talk about abo worlds may be confusing to some readers and wanted it to explain that in more detail. At some points I wanted it to explain the whole being able to change genders again at roughly the age of 14. In that way I think the talk on gender was a little muddled at parts,... more>> e.g. The equal pay scheme. But all the gender talk was really refreshing in the new setting of an ABO world, especially since it was one of the main focuses in the movement within the novel.

The only thing I regret is that the author didn't delve into the
Spoiler

parallel world concept enough. Although, I only think this way, because I wanted to see what happened to the OO couple in that world where Gu Tunan was an okay person to start with and the MC seemed smarter. Maybe he seemed smarter as a child or maybe I'm projecting my opinions on the character that didn't give up his studies in mech building to the extent the MC from the main world did and I assume he got smarter as a result of all of that additional attention he allowed himself to pay to it.

I think this is one of the very few i've read that has ever really delved into certain topics including gender!! and it was surprisingly very refreshing!! I givve it a 4/5 stars simply because I'm honestly not a big fan of interstellar genre but I picked it up because of the reviews, which did not disappoint! I did, however drop it after 50 something chapters because I honestly hate the "Identity-misunderstanding" trope they had. But other than that, I do have a lot of specific moments before then, where... more>> it really almost made me cry.

Spoiler

Chapter 2-

“At the end of the book, Xie Ruheng found an uninhabited wilderness, holding a fragment of his mecha in his palm, and quietly looking at the starry night sky. He heard that after death, people would become a star. Xie Ruheng thought, if he turned into a star, it would be a far away, small and feeble star, sinking deeply into the dark atmosphere. Just like his life, rebellious and free-spirited, sinking into many impossibilities. Thinking of this, those dark phoenix eyes finally lost the last of their light. He faced the starry sky and remained on the eve of dawn eternally.”

This part from the “original” novel really hooked me into the story. It’s so incredibly heartbreaking and made me feel instantly connected to this character. In hindsight, after about chapter 30 or so, I also sort of wished Xie Ruheng really was an omega in this universe. If not I wish I could read the “original” novel too because as heartbreaking and angsty as it would be, I really want to read the O/O pairing. And also, just thinking about the “original” XRH, I think of this quote specifically all the time.

Chapter 22-

Tang Bai finally standing up for himself in front of his mother and grandpa. He is so angered at the fact that the omega that was r*ped was silenced by the r*pist not to protect the r*pist, but to protect his prospective marriage and reputation. He is brought to a boiling point where he reflects on the gender inequalities in society ad how it’s shackled his own life, and he realizes he is entirely discontent and would rather die than to live in servitude of Alphas and be a birthing machine for them. He realizes that without having ever encountered the “book” of the original story and learned of Omega-Xie Ruheng’s existence, he would have resigned to a life of “a canary in a cage” according to society’s standards and views of omega.

“Xie Ruheng, who pierced through his enemy with a sword, once again appeared in Tang Bai's mind. His face was red blood, so red that it was like a fire that never extinguished. In the shadow of the sword, the dark phoenix eyes looked at him silently—— If this society had a barrier blocking everything, then pierce it with a sword. If you know that you’re unwilling, if you know that you’ll regret it in the future, if everything is too late, why not try? If everyone lives in a book and has their own plotline, then why do we have to follow the expectations of others to follow the plot? This is obviously my life. All the joys and sorrows, the ups and downs, can be written by myself ——As long as I am willing to bear the price for it. If I am willing to give everything for it, then I... Why don't I just be myself?”

For some reason this scene really hit hard I almost cried. This whole chapter was extremely moving. the author and translators do a phenomenal job of conveying the uneasiness-->rising tension-->realization-->resolve throughout it to the readers!

Chapter 40-

Holy CRAP!1!>?!?! Gu Tunan (aka original male protagonist) little dad (omega father) sees the way his own son he raised regards omegas and how he treats Tang Bai, and realizes he failed to teach his son to respect and properly love omegas, , , , and how he has turned out like his father...

“Before I married into the Gu family, I had a free and unrestrained personality. I also liked to dress up. I used to be an omega like Tangtang. It’s just because the Gu family needed a perfect Mrs. Gu, so since then, no one has known my name is Li Songyun.”

Li Songyun covered his eyes, tears dripping down his palms, as he said: “I like Tangtang so much, how can you bully him like your father bullied me:”

I thought about my mom and all the things she’s told me about when she was younger and married to my dad. I had to take a moment to touch grass and cry some REAL tears for a while, and then I came back inside to start typing up this review, and makes notes on every part that really had a lot of OOMPH

[collapse]

I dropped it around chapter 50 because the mistaken/misunderstanding Tang Bai has about Xie Ruheng’s identity got kind of annoying?? It was funny and cute at first until Tang Bai grew a crush on the “Xiao Cheng” identity, because this whole plot point could’ve been resolved if the characters spent just a second longer together. Also why did it feel like all of a sudden Tang Bai’s IQ suddenly got nerfed for the sake of this particular plot lol. Anyways it’s still a good and heartfelt read. I just got annoyed at that point and have a personal ick for this type of trope. I did skim some of the later chapters but I wasn't eally interested in the online gaming and stuff/interstellar type stuff.

in conclusion, pretty solid read and you'll feel a rollercoaster of emotions! I still recommend! <<less

I'm waiting for updates, but I gotta say, chapter 16&17 is the best one yet!

I like MC's confidence so much! He's like a bright star shining in the dark!

The ML is the MC's light, while the MC is the people's light ♡

Spoiler

Moreover, there's also that chapter where MC confronted his fam about the omega accident, and then how he made his grandpa finally accept him. Srsly, it's heartbreaking to hear his thoughts about how omegas have to suffer in silence even when they're not at fault

As another commenter wrote, this novel's summary sounds sweet, but expect some angst, not from MC relationships or such, but from the common values of the people in the novel world <<less

It's good!! I mean it's great, I came here after seeing the tag 'comedy' and understood that it's going to be a 'just for fun' type of novel - and that's exactly what I got. I really really love 'protagonist shou fell in love with mc' trope and so I was really looking forward to it... sadly I think this novel is just too silly for me. In terms of characters, I really couldn't get into it. It's abit underwhelming in that regard, but if you don't have expectations you'll... more>> probably be alright. The pacing is also abit weird, lots of internal monologue. I couldn't get into it. Still, rated 4 stars even though I dropped because I can see other people enjoying it. <<less
