What I loved

  • The humility of the MC. To admit his past cowardice, to accept help, to constantly self reflect.
  • Generally, I like my reborn protagonists to be cold, apathetic and vengeful. But MC retaining his pure kind soul, and just growing stronger, was beautiful to me.
What I truly hated

  • It's unreasonable that we were still talking about mc's very first drama while he was on to his 4th project.
  • It was ridiculous how ML was constantly playing with MC's emotions then gaslighting him into thinking the flirting was fake. Irl, I would detach so fast because I don't have the strength for such mind games.
  • Edit: My rating adjusted to 2.5 stars. Another character broke the window paper and exposed their desire, yet these two fools continued to play cat and mouse games. Aren't they exhausted? I swear the tension isn't sexy, it's frustrating.
  • The flowery prose. Just, , , Why?

Sorry to say, but this was LONG. hahaha

Let me explain why I rated it with 3 stars and then I will move on to the novel itself, any novel that I think is not entirely bad, but did not excite me to rate it good, I rate 3 stars. It did not blew me away with excellence.

I just finished it and the only thought that was left for me was - damn, this was long. Despite the original having only 138 chapters, but they are lengthy chapters, so you get... more>> the feeling that it drags on and on.

So, where should we start?

Lou Yu (MC). This is a story of his rebirth, but he did not come back for revenge, actually his life was bumpy, but he managed to get back on track. This has something to do with suppression he suffered for five years and a bad choice he made due to his kind heart. He agrred to sign with the company of his senior who begged him to save the company, at that time promising and young Luo Yu was on the rise. But he offended a boss from a rivaling company who wanted to cultivate him, thus the rival boss, Mr. Ou, created an idol and made him go under knife to resemble Lou Yu, In five years of work and marketing Lou Yu became a "replacement" for He Mu. The senior he trusted was bending and stretching under the pressure of big bosses, but did not forget to drain all value Luo Yu had. In his previous life Luo Yu gave in under pressure and depression, but he switched to theater. In those years he came out of the shadow and later joined filming again, he gained reputation and 10 years later was on the way to award ceremenies, but unfortunately to escape paparazzi the care drove into lake and Luo Yu lost his life. He wakes up in the bathroom and realizes that it's 5 years still, the moment he was about to give up, his agent gave up on him too and he left entertainment industry for theater. It was his regret, because through those years his mentality changed a lot and he regretted his cowardice, he should have fought for those roles to finally leave this quigemire. And the first step was to win the role for a TV series "Counterattack". With a changed mentality Luo Yu doesn't care that he is sprayed and ridiculed online by fans of He Mu, he decided to prove himself with work. This is the place where he meets the friend from his last life..

Note: I actually find such malicious marketing depressing and honestly makes me feel that people are s*upid if they buy it. If you only heard a "story" and never saw at least a bit of evidence than you may be led by the nose and used as a gunmen, while actually Luo Yu did nothing bad in his career, so what if he had bad roles, it's not like he joined social news.

Gu Xiaowei (ML). He is an established actor and you can guess that his image is quite cliche, unapproachable unless it's his "senior". Actually, he and Luo Yu have a past which Luo does not know about and he knew nothing of what Gu Xiaowei did for him in those five years and later. Luo Yu is indeed Xiaowei's senior in film academy, they met when Xiaowei had an exam and Luo Yu helped him to cross the flooded area from the rain, he encouraged him and this ray of light stayed with Xiaowei forever. You could say that they were destined and gravitated towards each other. Gu Xiaowei meets his senior during filming and they become close again. For Luo Yu at this moment it's reunion with a dear friend, for Xiaowei it's a promise of being together. Xiaowei actually has a bit of a weird temperament and he reminds you of some paranoid bosses, but it is explained later (and actually throughout the novel you get the feeling that Luo Yu is not the only one reborn, but GXW has an imprint from the role he played in both lives). Xiaowei's goal is simlple, to be close to his senior and gain any status, but just so he could stay close.

So this is the story mainly about these two people finding each other again and eventually making a step closer amidst filming, applause, malicious marketing, clapping back etc. The good thing to me is that sometimes the logic was strongly present, it's not something one-sided, alhough it feels like braindead plot when it comes to malicious marketing of Luo Yu being a replacement, but in general in many situations author took note from many sides that represented complicated relationships of gains. One person can't just start something without consequences.

This is the part that kinda made me tired and why I say this novel is long. The thing is that GXW actually quite openly flirted with LY, but LY acted a bit oblivious at first before he was enlightened during filming of the movie. Mind you, they acted in a TV series and kept in touch during another TV series that LY got and when they finally reunited during the movie he still was oblivious before someone hinted that GXW doesn't want to pierce that window paper. LY adopted the same tactic - open flirting, but interspersed with jokes, so it would seem not serious. In the end they finally came together, but the process felt so long. Why? Because the filming process was very detailed. Unlike many novels where plots of TV series or movies our MCs film is brushed off or even skipped, here it was qute detailed, detailed scenes and long process of filming. Partially, I agree that it was needed to show the process and basically it mirrored their relationship in a way (like for example the movie that left GXW with psychological problems and he played the painter, they both showed their true nature of being something else deep inside, that they were not completely fine, later they filmed a small series about fencing and it brought back the same feeling of friendship they had even in previous life), but it definitely could be shorter. Because they come together after 90 chapters!!! And before that they dance around each other for so long!

Another thing I could do without, but is inevitably present is the description of beauty and the feeling of 'awe'. As in any novel the MC is beautiful, but thankfully it doesn't sound just like a pretty vase, he is a talented actor, but there is so much emphasis on his temperament like no one else. I understand that such people exist, they have charisma that makes you feel that ppl have their own halo or backlight, but there is still a balance of saying it and overdoing it. Like so much of that lyrical awe. MC is more universal existence to me, like he has plasticity to be anyone, so his path to many roles is wider. But the feeling of awe was shown so much that the effect simply wears off. How beautiful he is, how charismatic he is, how charming he is. And of course he doesn't try to be those things, he just has this natural charisma of a settled down calm and nobility. It's a pity that sometimes to highlight one person many others feel like a foil, I'm sure any circle has a shining existence, but he's not the only one, but because he's MC he feels like the center of it all.

Honorable mention of other relationships outside of love. Luo Yu gains more friends in this life and he is more open-minded, but they are never on the level of his relationship with Xiaowei, I'd say even description is shallow in comparison. But it's still nice to have more friends to liven up the story. Because when I was reading I was surprised there was no mentioning of elders, except GXW's parents, professor and Luo Yu's agent. But there was only like one phrase in extras that both have no parents, so I guess this is why Luo Yu never mentioned or thought about them...

So this is basically it. The plotline revolves around filming and the development of these two, they are the center of the story. I don't find it bad in any way, just.. too long ahahaha and because of its' length it falls through for any possible excitement. <<less

My native language is not English. Sorry for the mistakes. I love this novel. Thank translator you open me eyes on the work. I like relationships MC and ML they very cute. Relationships MC and ML ideal for me. And in novel very good writing women characters. Often in bl writing women villains interfering with the main character but that’s not the case in this novel. I read mkt I don’t know what it look like in English but my native language it easily for reading. It my first review... more>> and my English not very good but I hope you reading it beautifully novel. <<less

5/5 I really liked this novel! Because of the rating, I didn't want to read at first, but now I'm glad I made up my mind! It's a really good reading! Usually I don't really like the slow development of relationships, but there's such chemistry between the heroes~ And I didn't notice how I read it to the end.
