I will recommend that you don’t read the reviews. It will spoil your experience reading this. Just as the introduction, why its so short. Lol. This novel is a must read.

This novel a must read. The narrative is beautifully written. The MC weariness, her thoughts and what she must do are so helpless. But through this helplessness, she also try to make things better, help, or strive through the dark, difficulty, Her love, friendship and relationships all so painstakingly held and tried to preserve, so wonderful written. ML once a... more>> student, but his love for her spend beyond that, before and after her death, so endearing and painful. So glad the came together and resolved some ‘ misunderstanding’ lol. I just love how she thought that she is hated by everyone she ever loved actually quite an opposite. And all the side characters find their own way through her is so interesting to read. A must read. It's a really sweet and short story. It starts with the MC gaining a new body because she completed her previous mission so the villain system she was bound to gave her a second chance at life. So the MC dies in a car accident in modern day. She gets bound to a villain system who promises her that it will heal her parents and sister who were also in that car accident. They all survived but are hospitalized and she's the only one who died so she won't be... more>> able to go back. She agreed and so in her first life she pretended to be a male and became the prime minister of the dynasty. But since her goal was to die in the hands of the protagonist (the emperor who she helped gain the throne), towards the end of her life she isolated everyone close to her and fulfilled her mission to die. The villain system fulfills its promise to heal her family but also gave MC a gift and that was a second chance at life again. So as the MC is stabbed to death, her soul immediately goes into the body of a little girl who just died of illness in the same era. She then grows up with her uncle's family but they treat her very well and she has a great relationship with her little cousin. But since her body died once, then it's much weaker than the average person. After 5 years, her uncle gets promoted and the family travels to the capital to settle down. This is 5 years after the death of the prime minister. MC and her little cousin enters an academy that was created by her 5 years ago to accept women and soon, she meets old acquaintances and friends who she tries to avoid showing that she was the previous prime minister but that proves a bit difficult as she looks exactly like her former self only much younger. She also gets bound again by another system, this time a love system 2700 who is trying to get her to capture 4 targets, the emperor, the eldest princess, the current prime minster (ML), and her previous adopted brother who is now a general. However, she clearly remember that at the end of her life, they all hated her for various reasons. So she just accepted her fate that she was going to die if she doesn't get any favorability ratings and the system starts freaking out. Honesty, she thought that she did so much in the first life and unexpectedly got a gift to live again when she didn't really want to so she's like, in that case, just destroy it.

It's a great read and the interactions with all the characters are good. You slowly start to meet more characters and piece her previous life together and realize how amazing the MC is but now she just wants to be lazy and muddle through life. However, her vest isn't actually the greatest because of her looks and she's really soft hearted when she meets certain old friends who cry when they see her. Of course, the sweet moments between MC and ML are also great. They're so cute and sweet and there is a bit of, does he like me? Does she like me? But it doesn't last too long. The MTL isn't too hard to read either so I suggest just MTL it. Overall it's a 5 star rating from me! <<less

A very good story, which I enjoyed a lot, even though the romance seems a bit slow~

Spoiler

FL reincarnated after her transmigration as a villain (a woman disguised as a man). So it was her 3rd life where she thought she'd live in a new world.. But, it was the same dynasty as her last life.. And many things were contrary to her expectations..

ML was the FL's student in her 2nd life, and they were estranged before her death (all part of her grand plan). He had regrets of her death (just like all the other side characters).

What's unfortunate (or maybe fortunate) is that the reincarnated FL has the same face as her 2nd life character, and thus she really couldn't free herself from her past life.

[collapse]

I have complaints about the romance, but it was so beautifully written, it brings tears to my eyes. Both the leads are calculating people, but in terms of "love", they both restrained (and restrained!) a lot! That everything completes only at the end of the story is a slow-burning HE~

I like the leads, and the side characters, and wish that I can read more about them (especially about the FL's brother)..

This story has the charm of the hidden romance, and it was covered with political intrigues and heart-warming but also heart-wrenching backstories..

A recommended reading to all 💌🌈 <<less

100% recommended.

Beautifully written.

I'm more satisfied that FL is not s*upid salted fish and not over avoidance from past acquaintances to hide her past life identity. She is calm and didn't deny dramatically like other fls when they found out her real identity.

Mature and healthy relationship between the leads. Reasonable characters. No over dramatic nonsense plot.

A little sad for antagonist that he gone mad and hated FL so much because FL pushed him again and again to hate her to complete her villain task.

This story took me on a far deeper journey than I ever expected. I began reading, anticipating a tale about an overpowered character, but found instead a profoundly emotional experience that resonated long after I finished.

This is not a typical transmigration novel. It starts at an easy-going pace, following a female lead who is weary and tired from the endless missions of a "villain system." The narrative then gradually unveils the immense weight behind the name Cen Tunzhou, revealing the heavy guilt and responsibility she carries alone. It's a choice... more>> that isolates her, leaving her with no one by her side.

That is what makes her return five years later, reborn as Cen Jing, so bittersweet. It finally gives her a chance to face her past, seek redemption, and learn to forgive herself. Each reunion with figures from her former life brought me to tears, especially the moments with Cen Yi, Xiao Qingyan, and the final revelation with Yan Lanting. There is a beautiful warmth in seeing the FL protected and embraced by the very people she thought she had lost.

I particularly admired how the story avoids unnecessary drama. It is refreshing that the FL doesn't beat around the bush and chooses to reveal her identity to those who matter. I was also glad to see these characters accept her truth without dragging the plot into prolonged conflict or suspicion.

Spoiler

One of the most heart-wrenching moments was Master Yuan's death. The scene captures an overwhelming sense of guilt, helpless pressure, and the sorrow of parting. She had the power to save him in many ways, yet could not fight the natural process of aging. It was one of the most moving passages in the entire story.

[collapse]

On a lighter note, I truly loved the character of Bai Qingshu, the FL's cousin, and enjoyed every extra chapter that featured her.

Through all the pain and recovery, the steadfast dedication between the FL, ML and supporting casts serves as the story's emotional core. Their long-enduring bond makes the well-earned happy ending feel deeply satisfying.

Thank you for the amazing translation! 5/5 <<less

Translation was good, thank you translators!

This novel focuses more on the emotions and relationships between characters rather than political intrigue. Each character had depth and felt three-dimensional to me; people who aren't 100% good or bad, people who are shaped by their circumstances, people who can change until they become unrecognizable, and people who can be driven to unexpected lengths by emotion. For a fairly short novel, I love how we got a look into many backstories of the supporting cast.

Unlike many other stories with this trope, MC doesn't try... more>> very hard to hide her identity. I found it interesting how many of the characters accepted her rebirth without explanation and kept referring to her with masculine pronouns with no trouble.

The start of a few chapters felt a bit confusing to the point I thought some text was left out, but I realised it's because we learn everything through MC's pov- so if she suddenly passes out the chapter starts with her waking up and THEN they explain what happened.

The romance is a slowburn with mutual pining. It would've been nice if they were honest about their feelings earlier but that's the beauty and pain of yearning haha... Both MC and ML have this maturity to them, and they know each other so well- it leads to many moments of quiet intimacy and unspoken tenderness. You can feel that they definitely stand as equals. The ML is SO respectful too even though he's such a yearner- that man worships the ground MC walks on for sure. In a crowd of domineering ceo-type MLs, his gentleness and respect stand out.
Spoiler

For me, it's refreshing how they decide not to have kids because I'm tired of always seeing the nuclear family ending. I think it's in line with their characters too.

[collapse]

Quite a few of the side couples also have the wife in a "higher position" than the husband, and I just love how the men don't feel insecure about it at all. The author really writes in men who love their wife unreservedly (especially considering it's a historical setting) and I'm here for it! Some parts touch on the misogyny of the time as well, with female characters striving for equality and change. Always happy to see that in a novel!

Overall, a great read with a satisfying happy ending. <<less

This was more a 4.5 for me, but I rounded up. It was very interesting and a little different than most transmigration novels. The FL was pretty apathetic, as explained in the description, but with great reasons. It made me think a lot about the villains who might have been transmigrated into novels who are not bad people. I liked it a lot.

I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this because the synopsis didn't appeal much to me, but all the reviews had 5 stars and I figured that reading this wouldn't hurt. Oh, how wrong I was. This hurt in the best way.

Spoiler

We basically see Cen Jing navigate her unwanted third life trying to avoid people from her past because of her previous role as a villain, assuming that they all hated her to their cores. Little did she know that despite her actions as Cen Tunzhou (her identity in her 2nd life) meant more to them and the hatred were somewhat misunderstandings.

There's another transmigrator named Ye Jindai who also has a system tied to her, which was the updated version of what CJ has, and thus, could do more. But YJ's system seems to be more cunning because it wanted her to get the capture targets. YJ eventually grew tired of trying to "capture" them and wanted the system gone because she didn't even want to be transmigrated and wanted to walk her own path in this life, and CJ, knowing exactly how she felt since she's been in that position before, encouraged her, making YJ's system hate CJ to the point of showing YJ the original endings of the characters in an effort to show that listening to CJ was s*upid, and she should turn her back on her. Of course, YJ revealed these things and this was basically how CJ realized that maybe, just maybe, she wasn't as hated as she thought. But of course, she still has some trouble accepting this because logically, there's no way that they still valued her even knowing what she did, right?

I also felt bad for Shen Linyin (the empress and original protagonist). She was on the verge of losing her mind because of her life in the palace and all the political scheming. I would've been slightly disappointed if she ended up turning evil completely, but fortunately, she managed to get her life together in the end.

As for our main antagonist, it won't take you long to realize that it's the emperor. Now, because of the things CJ deliberately did in her past life to make everyone hate her, he's gone off the deep end, and there's no bringing him back. The relationship between him and CJ is rather complex, because at some point, they used to be close friends, but because of CJ and the fight for power, it's not surprising that he ended up the way he did and CJ knew that this was completely her fault. She even wondered if this mess could've been avoided if she didn't choose to die in her previous life, but alas, she valued her original family more than this.

All the characters are smart and well thought out. Even the antagonists aren't s*upid. They matched well with Cen Jing who was also very skilled.

[collapse]

Cen Jing might be one of my favourite FL's ever. She's clever and she doesn't come out as obnoxious despite her abilities. She really wanted to live quietly and didn't care about her system at all. She also knew she had her faults, and realized that everything she did in her previous life was wrong and selfish, but she still did it.

I loved the relationships she has between her current life and the people from her past. There's this thrill and sadness when people from her past life realize that Cen Jing was/is Cen Tunzhou. I have to admit, I cried with most of their reunions.

As for the ML, he's paranoid (and understandably so after her death) but his love and admiration for Cen Jing is boundless. There's a slowburn between ML and FL as they try to figure out their feelings. When you think they've taken a step forward, they take 5 steps back. But the pining is so worth it.

I really liked this and I wished I saw this earlier. For those who like a relatively short but emotionally packed webnovel with competent and complex characters, you might wanna consider picking this up. <<less

Just a lovely, really touching story that asks - what happens when someone is given a second (really, third) chance at life that they never asked for? What happens if someone already lived out the transmigration story, as a villain, completed her task, and now is asked to live for herself... but doesn't really see the point?

That's Cen Jing - for the sake of her OG Family in "Real World" she carried out what she saw as the vicious villain character of "Transmigration World, Round 1." And she carried it... more>> out to her very death. And now she's back as a new figure in "Transmigration World, Round 2" and pretty certain that her past as Cen Tunzhou succeeded in leaving a thoroughly blackened figure who died with no one to mourn her. She's tired, she's lived that life (over 40 years putting her all into the villain role), and she honestly doesn't particularly want to live in general, or fight against the weakness that this new body has.

But then - she returns to the capital and slowly starts to discover, at the same time we the readers discover, that maybe she wasn't quite the villain that she thought she was. The existence of a new system that she is tied to is confusing at first and seems random, though it does clearly serve as a plot pusher (it makes Cen Jing take action when she just doesn't care anymore) - but it actually does have a purpose beyond that, which is fully explained by the end of the story.

As the story unfolds, we find out just how much self-hatred Can Jing had for herself, in following this villain role that she felt she had to in order to save her OG family, even as she tried so, so, so, so hard to make sure the people she cared about in her second life would have a full life after she died. She never realized in that life how the fact that she went through the motions as a villain, but then truly treated her loved ones well and tried to give them other paths, would be uncovered after her death. It's made pretty clear at the beginning that despite Cen Jing having an identical face as a young girl, to the deceased supposedly male evil Prime Minister Cen Tunzhou, no one thinks at first it's anything more than a coincidence because Cen Tunzhou was full of life, energy, never stopping. Meanwhile Cen Jing is... done. And what is really lovely throughout this story is how Cen Jing changes slowly because of how much love she realizes actually surrounds her. But she doesn't just go back to Cen Tunzhou because a lot of "his" personality was based on the tasks set out for the villain. And now Cen Jing no longer has that role. So there is this nice in between that develops, where Cen Jing gets to figure out who she really is without the role of the villainous antagonist, without that need to strive - and as she realizes that maybe she isn't quite meant for a life of sheer nothing-ness.

Of course, this story is also a romance at its heart and it's a truly beautiful, slow burn about a love that crosses two lifetimes. I love how the male lead's priority has always been, and will always be, Cen Jing. Nothing matters but her and that could be toxic, but at the same time, he understands that this all includes what she values - in society, in life, in people. He's become dark because of what happened, but he's not toxic or a tsundere (outside of trying to hide his feelings at first). It's not about keeping Cen Jing safe in a little cage, like so many of these male leads. Rather, it's about making sure Cen Jing has every single choice available to her to live her best life even if that's not with him. And that restraint and gradual understanding between the two is a beautiful story within this story. And it's not just him - every figure from her past wants that the most to her, wants her to be able to live beyond her past.

Overall, a charming slice-of-life story that gives you moments of heart-wrenching tenderness. Not what I expected when I first started reading, but I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. <<less

I really enjoyed it!!! It was very cute, and focused on MC making peace with people and situations in her first life. MC and ML are super cute together. I enjoy their dynamic and how it is not toxic.

I also appreciate that MC is not naive or they made her dumber in her second life; just lazier and unwilling to participate, but at times it is a bit hard to not feel cognitive disconnect between the MC of her first life and the MC now.

I wished there was a... more>> prequel story that you could read so you can learn more about and witness the MC's first life since it sounded super interesting and would have probably made a really COOL premise for a story. It also left me a lot of questions: How did she manage to hide her gender for so long? This story feels a bit like an epilogue or a sequel, rather than a standalone novel.

While the current novel gives you snippets of her past and you learn about her through the memories of others, at times it feels the story falls into that writing pitfall of "telling" and not "showing" us the story.

Spoiler

In fact, the story makes it huge plot point to have characters tell you that she is very different from her past self. You learn more about her abilities from character memories than seeing her in action, aside from towards the end. Maybe it is the apathy? Maybe it was her physical health too. But I also experience the same "huh" moment whenever I try to connect the MC with who she was in her first life. She also manages to escape all of her problems because of people's love and protection for her, which is also unbelievable at times?

A man wanted to ask the emperor to marry her? He falls off his horse, crippled??

Her old family wanted to kidnap her and later suffers a complete downfall?

Some of these situations happens off screen? and is explained away with a few lines. HUH?

The novel's only shortcoming is that you step into it knowing all these people love and miss her, but you don't see that build up. It is like watching the after of happy ever after? Or you came right after the climax of the story.

Also, once some key characters hit 100% affection, they stay that way, there is nothing she could do to change how they feel about it. Is this just the "white moonlight" effect— like why is the Emperor the ONLY one who has any ill feelings towards her..?

That is not to say that some characters do not hold grudges, but it is almost never that serious? They would hate her initially thinking she is taking advantage of her shared appearance with her old self, but that is resolved pretty quickly.

[collapse]

I know I sound like I am complaining, but it was just something that scratched in the back of my mind while I was reading. I do think the author does a decent job in trying to keep semblance of realism with gender roles— and it's interesting to compare MC's life and freedom as a man, versus as a woman; and what that says about society at large.

I am glad I read it, I really enjoyed it, would definitely recommend. If you enjoy the premise of second chance and unconditional love, I think this is a great novel. I would not think too deeply about the plot? (Like why doesn't everyone get weirded out about how she came back...? No one is worried it is spirit possession?). It is fun if you let it be fun! <<less

It's fine, but not amazing. Although many instances felt entertaining and cathartic, imo the whole story felt built around melodrama without actually that much build up or engagement? The story could've been so much more interesting imo but got so trapped in the weeds with absurdity - like how is it possible for YLT to take up a second full-time job???

The ages were all over the place, logic was honestly not that strong, character development felt more "said" than actually seen, and plot is written quite flimsy tbh. I also... more>> didn't really feel much chemistry in the romance.

To the end, the one I feel the worst for is XR. It really felt like he had to be the sacrifice in order for every other character to have a dramatic actually-love relationship with MC, but there needed to be a final villain. And therefore a "main protagonist" was written to be so flimsy, self-absorbed, suspicious and yet not (one-dimensional), ignoring the fact that it was MC actively provoking hatred. And what even were the "outrageous" actions that apparently turned him into such a villain hated by all yet not actually enough to be truly hated?? Bad writing

I do appreciate that the story tried to explore all sorts of different characters, the evil latent in peoples' hearts, the not-so-happily-ever-after, different walks of life, the equality of woman, and the relationship w a fellow transmigrator.

All in all, fine but not memorable. <<less

A story that I chose to take a leap of faith from the reviews but the synopsis was unconvincing. I feel like stories with "system" NPs, I'm always like... can it tell a good story? I've definitely read less than a handful.

It's such a chill story, when you know things are gonna go the right way, the second time around. It's practically a slow burn but there's not much angst, just slowly hoping the MC realizes how beloved she is.

Cute and quick read.
