Edit: Yep, mtl'd the last few chapters, and ML is the real deal. He's so shameless yet so loyal, I can picture him as a big fluffy (and probably handsome) dog.

After reading the prequels, I enjoyed this more as well as the second one compared to the first one. As MLs, I liked Yeqing and Changxiao more than the wangye (see, I can't even bother to remember his name). As for this volume, I like how the leads have chemistry, just like with Qianqian x Yeqing.

While Changxiao is incredibly... more>> shameless and quite obsessive, he's also considerate and pretty loyal to the woman he sets his eyes on. He might come off as too pushy and clingy, but as the story progresses, you'd see he's actually genuine with his affection (albeit it was literally love at first sight... which is also funny given the circumstances). He has really good self control, and if this was in another novel, snu snu might have already happened (and probably without consent too), so that's a plus for him.

As for his Huan'er, I also like how she slowly changes and warms up to the crazy clingy ML, despite being cold and indifferent to the core. Just goes to show all that effort is worth it on ML's part. I mean you gotta be good if you can change a cold and indifferent woman who doesn't even bat an eye when killing and make her blush.

All in all it's an enjoyable read. I wanna see if the four sisters ever get together and crank up the wackiness up to 100. <<less

Cute as absolute f*xk.

Loved it.

The MC is a strong woman who meets an equally strong-willed man.

Many laughs were laughed during reading, and the romance made my heart bloom and my cheeks hurt.

My only complaint is I felt she fell a little fast? But eitherway the plot is believable, and the story is absolutely adorable.

Beware of slight raunchy last chapter (though nothing too descript).

Hilarious! Especially at the beginning.

This story will not be good for some but I like it. It's fun. ML is shameless and a lecher in MCs eyes (it is actually true), if we're in the her place, it's definitely normal to dislike him. But it's really funny. He is simply too thickheaded and he just really really wants her. Him supressing his desire was not effective at all. That's why MC is guarded against him.

4.5/5 A cold hearted FL and an overbearing shameless handsome bandit. ML chase after FL in various shameless ways while to a certain extent keeping within gentlemanly bounds? Honestly it's still a little coercive if you take the time to think about it, but as a little short story it's a little cute and makes you chuckle. A nice short enjoyable continuation to the series.

i can understand the first parts of the story before the FL establishes her emotions.

i mean, the ML instantly falls for the FL because of the way she fights. Like we don’t even get to see his emotions grow he just simply is deeply routed in love. from the first glance and can now do anything for her. It’s like going from 0-100 favorability with a ruthless man, who normally reasons realistically.

It’s just dumb Ah!

maybe the chapters weren’t enough to let them grow so I could I ignore that.

so I watch the FL resist completely, not at all expressing any form of intelligence. But maybe she wasn’t the cunning type. She was the typical type that will always misunderstand everything.

mans! I could ignore that, until...

well, so snow storms traps ml’s people while ML is away. FL is convicted to help. In the middle of that, avalanche strikes, washing her down the mountain.
she is lost and is later found by ML who fights off wolves fiercely to get to her.

then they settle in a cave to rest and FL confirms her feelings and even allows ML to freely kiss her. Suddenly they’re ambushed. Prioritizing her, ML creates an opportunity to for her to escape leaving him to fight off 30 men alone.

when she is safe, she rushes to finish her mission. (Which is acceptable)

but instead of instantly heading back after handing over the thing to the officials, since the following matters didn’t require her help at all and obviously they wouldn’t happen in a day they would take months on months to complete, she stays.

months later, she makes a very small inquiry about the ml’s wellbeing. The only concern she has shown in a while. (Because she did leave him to fight off 30 men, who had only been after her) And they tell her he is to marry another. Does she rush back to confront him? Does she question? No. She just sends a wedding gift and weeps.

the male lead, being the instant-give-all-person-of-the-century, he arrives promptly at her door to offer explanations and marry her. Guess what? She puts on a huge show of tears and refusing to accept him.

At this point, I’m like f*ck off!!

you know, when I heard that the ML has decided to marry someone else, I was très contenu with the development of things.

but with his unreasonable love, he comes back to her. It made me wonder, had he never seen a woman kill before? His love was based on such a fickle moment. What if someone else replaced her?

i can ignore how he loved her. but, why not put him on a plane with someone that can give him at least half of what he asked for? FL is his polar opposite in terms of romance, and it’s kind of annoying.

i really didn’t feel satisfied. I really wanted to see the ml’s fervent yearnings be reciprocated or something.

i wish the FL was someone else.

yes, the ML has his own dynamic. Which is a bit interesting, but- listen, I personally don’t covet the ml, because I didn’t really feel moved in anyway by how his love started. Like, why love in such a way. Why struggle to make someone accept you? Did she have to hurt him a thousand times in every lifetime for him to get it?

sigh!

the killer is easy to deceive is much better. <<less

This story was hilarious. ML was really an epitome of "being shameless is invincible". Yes, he's really shameless. Even after MC repeatedly injured him, he still pursued her shamelessly. But it seemed his strategy really worked on the iceberg MC.

I really enjoy their interaction more than MC and ML's from the previous 2 books. Speaking of the previous book, we finally got to know the mastermind behind Qianqian's assassination attempt in this story. And I couldn't wait to read the last book and hopefully, the author would tie all the... more>> loose ends in that book. <<less

A delightful short read. It's light and fluffy.

There's no complexity here, the author actually rushes over the matters that doesn't concern the couple. The couple and their dynamic is the focus here.

Both the MC and the ML are enjoyable. The ML is hella clingy but in a funny and not annoying way. Maybe someone would say that the only con is that it's inta-love for him but it doesn't truly seem like that? I think that when you consider someone as discerning and smart as the ML, inta-love doesn't turn... more>> out to be inta-love at all. From the beginning, the ML seems to have a strong grasp over her personality and that makes me suspect it took more than just to watch her kill ruthlessly for him to fall in love.

You could say it was luck that she turned out to be exactly how he thought she may be and yeah, but we'll never truly know. Is intuition luck? For some people following their intuition will lead them wrong, for others it may lead them right.

Anyway it's cute and short. <<less

Reviewing the entire series:

This is a series of four short stories revolving around four sister disciples who are “secret constables” (similar to underground police detectives) with the main case being Jiangnan’s salt tax evasion, seen from each girl’s perspective, starting with the youngest and ending with the eldest.

I liked the second and fourth the most, and enjoyed them. The first and third were alright, the male leads weren’t to my taste.

The stories have a little background mystery but most of the writing involves the interactions between the couples and sisters.... more>> They are the:

1. “Salted fish” concubine x Arrogant prince who wants her to stop sneaking out on investigations

2. Charming and bold dancer x Blushing (only for her) assassin she likes to tease

3. Aggressive cold beauty x Fool for her crazy gang leader stalking her

4. Trickster merchant eldest sister x Upright official strategizing how to marry her

Pros:

- Most of the relationships are cute.

- The plot isn’t meticulous but still interesting enough.

- Bold and capable female leads.

- Distinct personalities and characterization.

- They’re all pretty comedic.

- Other than the first book’s male lead, none of them are royalty and some of them are even commoners. And none of them become emperor lmao. A breath of fresh air in Chinese historical romance fiction, lemme tell you.

Cons:

- Many things are not fleshed out. If you’re looking for intricate plot you’re not going to find it here.

- Though it’s “understood” that everything is consensual, the actual language and writing involves what I would consider dubious consent. I felt uncomfortable reading some parts.

- And the third book’s male lead pursues the female lead pretty insistently, making her uncomfortable. While she warms up to him, I didn’t really.

- The male leads are always written to be more capable than the female leads. At least in the second and fourth stories the female leads are better at some things (second with wit and fourth with money) but tbh for a series revolving around four female detectives the author praises them but there’s a lack of actual girl power.

- Most of the male leads have a kind of “wife must defer to the husband” mindset. This is true to the time period but not exactly what I look for in a male lead.

Especially because part of what they liked about their wives was their independence and capabilities? So you want her to be capable so she can just sit and wait for you at home?

This is also why the second book is my favorite, inching out the fourth. Even after they get married he follows the female lead’s wishes and defers to her. Even though he has the best martial arts of any of the characters he has the most equal relationship with his wife, imo.

Fourth book’s male lead is pretty respectful, I liked him, but he kind of schemes to keep her busy so she’s not interested in going outside to investigate. Not the worst behavior but it kind of irks me.

Anyways, if you like this type of story give this series a try! They’re all pretty standalone so you can read the one you’re interested in first without being too confused. I wrote a lot but I did enjoy them! <<less

This story is violent. The FL stabbing the ML twice :0 !

However I gave it a 5 because it was super funny. The ML was comical ! When the ML rinsed to freshen his breath in case they kissed had me rolling on the floor laughing, haha ! The FL, very cold, and the ML, yandere? They were a perfect match, LOL !
