The Socially Anxious Little Zombie Forced Outdoors

Description

Lin An, plagued by severe social anxiety and obsessive cleanliness, rarely ventured outside, preferring to spend his days indoors, shopping via his smartphone and ordering takeout. As the apocalypse descended, his frail body inevitably succumbed to the virus, transforming him into a zombie.

First Attempt: The irrational, starving zombie Lin An, driven by a bloodthirsty frenzy, screeched as he opened the door. Outside, the scene was gruesome with bloodstains everywhere, scattered remains of gnawed limbs, and various items dropped in haste by those fleeing. Quietly, he closed the door.

Second Attempt: Hearing human voices outside, the famished zombie Lin An opened the door again, ready to pounce on his prey. Upon opening the door, he locked eyes with five residents stealthily scavenging for supplies. Intimidated by their five pairs of terrified, piercing stares, Lin An quietly shut the door again and hid himself inside a cabinet.

Third Attempt: Finally, hunger triumphed over his social anxiety and cleanliness fixation. Wearing a mask and gloves, he stepped outside. In the neighborhood, he found fresh ‘food’, happily dragged it home, cleaned it thoroughly, and prepared for a hearty feast.

Absolutely love!!! I initially started reading this novel due to the comedic intro of the MC in the summary and just couldn't stop. I've read plenty of other zombie/apocalypse types of novels, so I initially thought it would be the same. While it certainly does contain some the normal zombie plot settings, the author does a wonderful job of drawing in the reader with something different and satisfying.

Aspects that I especially appreciated were as follows:

  • Multiple characters with actual personalities and individual motivations
  • Character growth not only from the MC but also those around him
  • A subtle, slowburn romance (not rushed, but appropriately timed for the reader)
  • A "shounen anime" vibe mixed with an Indiana Jones one
  • A light, but intriguing read
  • No pointless filler dialogue (the type that sometimes entertainment circle novels have - where the author thinks they should fill a whole chapter with online comments from "bystanders/passers-by"
  • Well-paced flashbacks
  • HE
  • The presence of Extras (I enjoy it when the author includes extra scenes)
I've finished reading the main text and am now looking for the Extras. To those reading the reviews, stop now and don't spoil it for yourself. Just click the first chapter and get ready to adventure.

I go for five star not because it's so good but cause I like it.

It's decent for a 100 chapters and particularly a Gary Sue. All of the characters are overpowered. No lie.

I like it mostly for OP and for the social anxiety character. While the story itself is rather good. I giggle a lot in the beginning chapters cause the writing style is funny. The author as if slipping some of their thought into it.

But towards the end, the already ordinary atmosphere this novel have become more ordinary as... more>> the writing style was no longer funny. Author seems bored too, I guess.

It's like a decent writing following the predetermined plot structure.

Nothing casual, surprising, encouraging, or any plot twist wise. Just... this is "your ordinary story of little zombie meet his lover who apparently a genius and OP big man. While I become big man myself after going trough journey with him tho we can skip the exciting part". <<less

I expected something rather shallow, silly, and cute.
It's all of those, 5 stars in terms of fun-factor.

Characterisation is decent, there are two female central side-characters that are written really well, the rest of the group is developed enough, too.

ML is the cold-faced type, but he cares about his people and treats MC with respect, never does anything questionable to him.
MC is how you would expect it, timid, cowardly, gloomy, but with a pure, very soft heart.
He's too good of a person, and that's a compliment.

The romance is slow and believable, it develops over months of companionship, nothing sudden or head-scratching about it.

There's some good world-building going on, sadly it just wasn't done right.
Some things are ultra detailed down to historic records, myths, and whatnot.
On the other hand, the general base is a mess.
At first it seems to be our world and time, but later it becomes clearer that it's more fantasy (?), but then there's some Sci-Fi at one point (??), and a bit of ancient earth stuff (???).
The writer put too much effort into detailing minor aspects and forgot to show the world as a whole, so it often seems disconnected or even clashing.

Spoiler

People live like us, have mobile phones, internet, cars, etc., looks exactly like our world and time.
But there's a city full of high-tech, including intelligent robots that can identify and fight Zombies, are housekeepers, talk, have personalities, etc.
They are sold to other cities as well but somehow we haven't seen a single one up until that city, and the "super-weapons" the group got from there seems to be completely normal stuff that doesn't fit into a world full of highly developed robots.
On the other hand large portions of the world seem to be ancient jungles/forests full of strange plants and beasts, many parts are completely unexplored, and there's the profession of "explorers" who wander into these jungles to find treasures.
Some of these plants can be said to be magical, and there are ancient animal-gods/guardians...

[collapse]

It could have been such an interesting concept but the writer couldn't connect them at all, they just bite each other and make you question lots of aspects. It's extensive but not thought through.

Three stars because in addition to the world building being a mess, there are so many inconsistencies and wonky story-logic.

Spoiler

Zombies don't breathe, MC doesn't either. But at one point the writer states that MC's breathing becomes quicker.
MC blushes. He has no heartbeat, doesn't bleed, there's no blood flow in his body. But he blushes.
MC has water powers, he even learns to produce warm water. But later it's explained that he collects water from his surroundings and doesn't "produce" it himself – so how does he heat it up?
He works hard to develop ways to use it for attacks, yet he doesn't do the easiest thing – drown enemies. Somehow people he swapped up into his water, completely submerging them for a significant amount of time, could always breathe just fine.
MC doesn't eat people, he eats absolutely nothing, and didn't for over 6 months before he met ML.
It's later shown that Zombie have to regularly eat or they will basically shrivel, get slow and weak.
The writer tells us that MC is weak because he never ate, and yet he easily walks through half of the city and drags the unconscious ML all the way back home.

[collapse]

These are only some examples, the story is full of these holes, sometimes it's minor, like the last point that can be said to be slightly off, or just utterly inconsistent like the first two.
It's fine in the earlier chapters because they were rare, but their number increases sharply the further you read, some parts really start to fall apart.
I think it's because she focused way too much on unimportant details, tried to explain minor stuff no reader would have even questioned, and lost track of most of them while writing later chapters.

All in all, the first 20 or so chapters would have easily been 5 stars, it was fun, well executed, character dynamics were interesting, and the story deep enough to enjoy it.
It might have been better to keep it entertaining instead of trying to make it "deeper" by flashing out aspects and involving mysteries that just lead to inconsistencies and repeating situations that seem copy-pasted.

Still, it's a fun read that I will likely finish and would recommend to everyone who likes not-so-serious apocalyptic stories and can overlook inconsistencies and plotholes.

This was my absolute favorite novel to start. The beginning half was hilarious, adorable and so interesting to read. I had so much fun keeping up but then slowly the plot started spiralling as the group traveled further. There’s just so many new elements and I felt like the variety and differences amongst the different cities was abrupt and confusing. If the author had just kept it as an apocalyptic plot or slice of life in post apocalyptic world I would have been satisfied. Unfortunately, they started adding too many... more>> different world building settings that clashed. Dropped at 68 and still haven’t seen much relationship progress between the male leads either. <<less

Our poor baby MC suffer alot after his parents went missing exploring in the wilds, this Apocalypse is terrible for a lot but for him it was something that would change his life.

MC is the most cutest zombie ever, he can't harm a fly, and his germaphobe and love cleanses, it was impossible for him to be a gross smelly blood eating Zombie. From rescuing ML as Food it was where the story and journey starts.

I have love for both them, MC have Social phobia and ML is so tolerant,... more>> and also our comrades is a good goofy bunch. Also the cute pet dog

We spend more time on the road and doesn't drop by cities much. The main enemies are mutant zombies with special abilities But our crew is so OP, especially MC after he practice his water ability day in and day out by cleaning,

The journey has 2 goals relative simple and it's not complicated, very easy to understand. Don't expect like very complicated plotlines or too many schemes.

I like this it was an interesting read, MC being a Zombie from the start is always an interesting plot point. <<less

Complete the main story.

Don't look at this novel as an ordinary apocalypse novel. In fact, it's more of an adventure novel.

The world settings are very unique. I dunno about the countries, and the world before the apocalypse, but the world here is composed of cities—— cities composed of different technological achievements and different culture.

The city where MC came from is just your ordinary city (ordinary mean, just your modern society filled with people). That's why, you won't really suspect that your not in the same world. But once MC and... more>> co left the city, you'll realized how big the world in this novel is.

Actually, it's so big that ordinary people, who lived in an ordinary modern city they're whole life, don't even know what quick sand is.

And even before apocalypse, legends, magical plants and animals already existed.

The only difference apocalypse did to the world was that it brought people superpowers and mutations to the world, and zombies.

Before the apocalypse, they have this "explorers", and it became a trend that almost all young people wanted to become one. ML is also an explorer, meanwhile, MC wanted to become one (to find his parents).

I dunno how people travel before the apocalypse, but every cities stood in between wilderness.

That's why when the apocalypse came almost everyone lost contact with one another.

That's why unlike other apocalypse novel, where the protagonist's team would just travel from city to city in a blink of an eye, in this novel they have to cross the wilderness.

It's kind of interesting. There was this city, in mtl it was called machinery city. I dunno what it was called if it was tled properly, but as the tled suggested, it was a city filled with advanced robots. The people there were sheltered by robots to the point that after half a year in apocalypse, they already have strength to protest against robots.

Then there was also one city, but they were more of a tribal society.

There's also an ancient city from thousand years ago. Actually it can already be called society, but for some reason, it's just city. It's an ancient city equivalent to Mayan or something.

Then there's their destination, which they have to cross several wilderness + + others... to reach, a very advanced city. It more or less focused in health or biology or something. That's where ML came from.

Anyway, this one is very interesting. If you guys want to read different apocalypse then you can read it.

Man, I haven't read the extra yet.... sigh... it ain't finished yet! <<less

First time I've read something like this, where the whole contry is like biomes mixed and made up of forests, seas and glaciers side by side.
Spoiler

In this, chapter 88, traveling through the snow, they suddenly stop in a place covered in ice, a city of ice and snow. Its entrance has a labyrinth created to confuse people, it is as if each city in this world only allowed native residents or experienced explorers to enter.

[collapse]
Crossing long forests and distant rivers just to get somewhere else, with the weather always holding you back. I have no idea if planes exist. It's as if each location was tiny to the point where all the residents knew each other. Mixture of ancient traps used by people to protect their homes. It's more as if they were distant countries, still being "discovered" by outsiders.

Strengths: Charismatic characters, lots of exploration of the world (literally as if we were exploring the world of Minecraft), romance is not sudden, main characters need help from time to time, cities with their own stories, even the dog's (Xiao Fu) past is exciting and he's a really loyal dog, badass battle scenes, lots of fantasy, characters with well-developed pasts and traumas.

Negative points: Lots of descriptions of things that will later be forgotten, exaggerated scenes to make you laugh, the cities are extremely far from each other and you need to walk A DESERT or GIANT FOREST to get to the other. Some characters only seemed to be there to fill the sausage (in love with an angel? Bleh), a lot of fantasy (not like a modern post-apocalyptic world) very slow romance – you are desperate for scenes of them being loving.

Opinion, I found the fight scenes really fun, they really got me hooked into the story, however, there were some very absurd things and it could have just been for the development of the romance and the beginning of ML's passion. In fact, during the underground city arc, it seems like the story is about to end, but then a lot of drama happens and you realize it's only halfway through, but this drama is very important for the MC's development, so I didn't hate it.

I'm going to talk a little about the characters, some I forgot the story because it's been a long time since I started reading this,

Xu Fang, the typical clown of the group, is always making jokes and annoying the "boss" – he's bald, so there are a lot of jokes about that.
Spoiler

From what I remember, he and ML knew each other before the apocalypse, plus Xu Fang is the first member of the team who appears after introducing MC and ML to us. He has earthly powers.

[collapse]

Ouyang Dong is a smart and cute character that they rescued, I remember he was very young (maybe around 20-22),
Spoiler

he ended up losing his parents to the apocalypse.

[collapse]
During many scenes he is referred to as a "fat" man (I believe in the sense of having a strong body). He has plant powers.

Xiao Fu, Lin An's (MC) pet dog, who MC saved before the apocalypse began. The dog is extremely loyal to Lin An, following him at any cost and helping the protagonist regain his sanity during many events.
Spoiler

Later, the dog develops the power of super speed, but this is used little.

[collapse]

Wu Duo

The youngest of the group is an intelligent girl with a strong and curious personality. She was raised by her parents and grandmother, a retired explorer. She has space ability.
Spoiler

Later, at the beginning of the apocalypse, her parents turn into zombies, so to protect her granddaughter, her grandmother ends up killing them.

[collapse]

Grandma Wu

An experienced explorer, when the apocalypse began, her priority was the protection of her young granddaughter, who she trained. Many of the important information about the mysteries of the world are answered by her, who despite being over 70 years old, is still as skilled as when she was young.
Spoiler

Little by little, it is revealed to us that she is suffering from Alzheimer's.

[collapse]

ML, Shen Xiuzhe

A man with a strong and determined personality. He was an experienced explorer before the apocalypse and has traveled extensively around the world.
Spoiler

His father was also an explorer and his mother is a doctor (he himself claims that her team discovered the cure for Alzheimer's). Later, as he falls in love with Lin An, he shows himself to be a caring, worried, and jealous lover.

[collapse]
ML has dual powers of fire and metal.

MC, Lin An

A man of short stature and a handsome face who suffers from social phobia and mysophobia. Before the apocalypse he only lived locked up in his apartment, only receiving deliveries and working online. After that, he turns into a conscious zombie, still with the same phobias, which makes him meet ML. Lin An has water powers, very convenient for someone with mysophobia.
Spoiler

Lin An is the son of historians who traveled on an expedition to a mysterious city when he was a child, but ended up never returning. His biggest goal has always been to go after his parents, but before he never succeeded because of his anxieties and fears.

[collapse]

I thought it was a decent novel, but I personally don't like works that have episodes focused on pets.
Spoiler

The dog literally thinks "master, master, master~" — His owner, of course, is his family, but I found it so irritating how nosy they made the dog be. Seriously, a protective and loving dog is really cool, but I skipped a few chapters because there was no point in reading the dog being kidnapped by wolves just to be treated like a puppy.

[collapse]
It's like watching filler with lots of plot holes.

It's very funny and cute. The MC becoming a zombie and still being affected by his ocd and social phobia created hilarious situations.

Unfortunately it doesn't stay in the same mood and turns into an OP fighting stronger and new enemies. There is some world building which is fun but is a lot more fantastical than a typical modern apocalyptic setting.

I couldn't finish because I got bored. The underground city arc felt like the climax but was only halfway through. Knowing there was still so much to wrap up, put me... more>> off finishing. <<less

This Novel is Sooooooo GOOOOOD!!!

The start of the Novel was Hilarious. But the rest of the story also far from boring!

All the Main Characters are Lovely. They're Funny and Sweet. They're Flawed but Loyal.

... more>> This is a Teamworks story even though the Protagonist was still only our MC and ML. But the others are not less important, especially the Dog.

The Dog was like the Owner aka the MC. Timid and Cute! His role are more than just a Cute pet too. And no, thank goodness he doesn't have Humanoid form whatsoever.

This novel doesn't have side CP either. The Group dynamics was like Family and Friends kind of type. Even though there's two person that look up on MC and ML like a Boss, they're not treated as Subordinates at all.

Both MC and ML also, while being Super Strong, doesn't mean they're OP. This Group had gone through lots of Problem. And ML won't let the people around him just depend on his and MC'S Strength, so others also train their ability to be strong.

It's Truly a Fun and Great novel! Buuut... Sadly don't expect for romance. Both MC and ML does get together naturally, but they don't voicing "I love you" or kiss. (Unless I accidentally miss them. Lol)

It goes natural by how ML being mostly always being Sweet and Intimate and Protective to MC. And MC had Emotionally depend of ML a lot too.

Maybe it will has the romance on the Extras, but sadly there's no Extras in the Asiannovel 😭😭😭 💔💔💔

I finished the main story and Loving it SOOOOO MUCH and now going to wait for the Extras!!! <<less

It was nice. Can re read. MC was socially awkward and the ML was a doting one. The mc's germophobic reactions resulted in funny situation.

Spoiler

ML helped MC for improving MC power by being in a washing machine c*m tornado 😂

The condition of MC in the ancient ruins was really heartwrenching and also the betrayal in the ice city. Really wanted to beat them up

The wolves pups were so cute 🥰
