In a world where others face the apocalypse with just a dog for company, Ning Xin faces it with a whole mental asylum under her care.

She had to look after about five or six patients, representing various mental disorders she knew of: schizophrenia, mania, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression…

Determined to return to the real world, Ning Xin bravely faced the challenge, only to find that the situation was completely different from what she had expected.

Instead of being helpless patients, each of the inmates was a powerful figure, and she, the director, was the one who seemed pitiable.

One night, as she was preparing to sleep after locking the door, a tall man pushed open the door and said in a soft voice:

“Director, director, they’re bullying me, stuffing zombies into my blanket.”

Ning Xin looked outside to see bodies scattered all around. …Who was bullying whom, after all?

It's good. The story beat is unique and I like the romance, I just think it ended too early.

The story is wonderful not so focused on romance and battles, the story have a wonderful storyline. It is a well balance story between romance and battles.

The characters are wonderful. The FL didn't give me a headache or annoyance. The ML is totally a green flag and the other supporting characters are wonderful too.

Since it's my personal preference, I just want to say to the author and the translator that they did a great job!! Kudos for you guys!!!

A novel concept cut short way too abruptly. This novel had a lot of potential. Its plot was not something I have read before and its enemies to lovers premise was not bad. But everything was rushed and thus the quality of the novel went down a lot.

This is a novel that's should have had at least 200 chapters. What do you mean she is a director of a mental hospital and she only has 3 patients ? It's obvious the author gave up on this work which is a... more>> shame because I genuinely liked it.

Another thing I want to mention,
Spoiler

ML is so aggressive to MC for what? I'm cool with the MC. Not so cool with the ML.

2.5 but rounded up as I liked most of it.

This story is both short and slow with very little focus on taking care of the patients. It is also not set in an Apocalypse based world (that title is partially misleading). The description/synopsis above does not match with the actual story at all.

The MC is Ning Xin, an orphan who arrives in a strange building just after dying. She survives the first few days while avoiding the other occupants as they kill each other before discovering a sort-of-kindly old lady... more>> who helps her. From there, we see her stubborn personality as well as her desire to live and return to her world. Eventually, this leads to her doing her best to help the patients she encounters.

The ML is Nie Ran, a man from ancient China with a split personality. Cold and forceful at first, he gradually warms towards the MC and falls for her. From that point on, he has a character shift from being an ass to trying to be the right tool for whatever job the MC has. He is still arrogant and domineering but seems to genuinely care about the MC. They do have s*x regularly in the story once it gets to that point but the first two times are a bit squicky, be forewarned.

Spoiler

Their first time is in the MC's world where she gets drunk and one thing leads to another. The second time he lost control of his emotions and she was unwilling.

So... yeah.

[collapse]

The way this story is set up, it is implied the MC is going to have a lot of patients in her asylum. She ends up with 3. And most of the story is set around her time with her first patient. Each patient has their own world that she needs to visit in order to accept them into her Asylum. None of the patients are normal people. Their mental conditions aside, they all have supernatural abilities.

Spoiler

The first, the ML, has a sword that can change its size at will and is nearly impossible for anyone else to lift. He's also strong, fast, and a genius (he learns the 21st century stuff pretty fast). The second is a young boy who can transform into a wolf (occasionally he's a puppy, occasionally he's car-sized) and releases lights that causes plants to mutate into liquid thirsty monsters. The final patient is basically a traditional skinwalker who kills women, steals their skin, and transforms into them.

[collapse]

They have all done terrible things in the past which is why they are condemned to their purgatories but each patient's story is just full of terrible events. Honestly, what they went through would be enough to make anyone lose their minds. Especially the third patient.

Spoiler

The ML was sent as a child to be a hostage in another country. He returned as a teenager and then had his family repeatedly try to assassinate him. So he mu*dered all his half-siblings, his father, some ministers and soldiers and then became Emperor.

Second patient was raised by wolves and had to watch as his family was slaughtered by hunters. He was then taken, kept in a cage and treated like a spectacle. ab*sed and humiliated, he finally snaps and gets free. Then he proceeds to kill everyone who hurt him.

Third was a boy born to a prostitute. Turns out, that group of prostit**es either kill boy children or send them away. His mother didn't want to send him away so she raised him as a girl before she passed away. He was too old for them to send him away after that so he was then kept to be a prostitute for the clients who liked that kind of thing. After the red light area closed down, he was shipped off to marry an abusive old guy as a fake wife before snapping, and coming back to kill every single other woman who had a hand in his terrible life.

It's no wonder they all ended up in an Asylum.

[collapse]

After they get the third patient, the story suddenly moves super fast and we are treated to a very subpar ending. We go from the third patient recovering in the 21st century to them getting a chance to reincarnate.

Spoiler

All four are put through a test of their ideal lives.

The MC is found by her parents and introduced to a man. They end up having a child together, she has a successful business and is just having a happy life. However, she feels like she's constantly missing something.

The second patient is with his wolf family and just living his best life in the woods.

The third patient is running a shop with his mother in the modern world.

The ML, on the other hand, is back to being Emperor but he still remembers the MC. He has a drawer full of paintings of her as that's pretty much what he's been doing.

Truthfully, I would have loved to have seen the ML's point of view in his dream when he realizes he's been separated from her but the story doesn't deliver.

[collapse]

Over all, it's not what I was looking to read as I genuinely thought this would be an apocalypse based story. Instead, it's more of a fantasy world hopping story. There really doesn't feel like any consequences for how things play out as there is no overreaching villain except their inner demons.

Which are handled by food and medication.

So... not a recommended unless you're looking for something to just pass some time. <<less

This story is good, but halfway through it just isn't for me. The story background itself is interesting. As the title suggests, it's an asylum so the male lead has a diagnosed mental problem. But how the asylum came to be is more interesting, and you should read yourself to know more. I discontinued reading because of the female lead. I didn't like her response to things, although it's normal and very humanly. Maybe I'd be like that if I was in love, but it feels a bit childish. Don't... more>> get me wrong, the romance is good with the male lead and all. <<less

Main reason I stopped reading was due to the FL. The first time I started to dislike her a bit was when she went around snooping in the old granny’s room when she thought she fell asleep then embarrassed when she got caught. Second was when she got saved by the ML, latched onto him and followed much to his objection. Then when taking him back to the asylum got annoyed by him when he started acting like a six year old child, which was his mental illness which she... more>> didn’t believe he had at first until the granny pointed it out that they were in a asylum. In the story she said along the lines that she thought the ML would be someone who she could take advantage off and not a burden to her which rubbed me the wrong way. <<less

This was a good adventure read. There's a lot going on in every chapters and will hooked you to read the next chapters.

Just beware that all MLs were psychos. Because of their dark past and traumatic events which led them to a deteriorating mental health.

Despite some heavy undertones of the story there were antics for comedic relief. This story is littered with dark humors that some of it made me uncomfortable like how the author wrote: ... more>>
Spoiler

"how a child with cerebral palsy eats with chopsticks."

[collapse]
So please read with caution.

Seriously the author is a foodie. The psychos were coaxed with good foods. The saying of the "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach" is true on this novel. Better read this with a full stomach or snacks at hand. The MCs were always eating.

I agree this ended too abrupty. This one deserve more side stories. And there's a lot more to flesh out from what was left off at the end. <<less

A bit bland overall. Well translated, thanks Nomad!

It seems like the author ran out of steam halfway through the story outline and forcefully ended it within the last two chaps or so. It's a pity since there was finally some good character development building and then it just abruptly ends. If looking for the perfect story is like finding Cinderella by using her glass slipper, then this story is like the evil stepsister who cut off her toes to make shoe fit. But hey, if the shoe fits... at least... more>> you have a shoe. 3.5/5 <<less

Drop at chapter 9.

The only reason it's 2 because I like the whole premise of the story

That's why I even start reading it. But I'm not sure if it's the translation or just the author but the story is so confusing since chapter 1. Since she came into the world.

... more>> One of the question is How did she know the people she came with are similar to her (isekai) ? But then she ask the question chapter later.

But aside from that the ML is the first dude that appear right? In chapter 2? My mind forgot about it the moment he had a Split Personality of a 6years old ancient prince. (Reason I'm not putting spoiler cause it's like 3-5 chapters in. Beside if you're uncomfortable with that why censor it)

I was going to drop the story earlier but the shower scene held me on and then I stop. Too much mystery or whatever that it makes no sense. Why did a door suddenly appear.

If I didn't know the ML was him. And that the story makes sense it be OK. Sometimes you really have to read the reviews to see if the story is worth reading but since it's only 50 plus chapter long you can just grit your teeth and bare with it. I can't. <<less
