Reality…will swallow you.

Ye Xiao, the criminal investigator whose hobby is eating and who never knows how to read the atmosphere, encounters an unimaginable case.

As usual, there is a dead body from a homicide case. But what is slightly different this time is that—

They find the deceased’s own, destroyed hands in his stomach.

Exactly how much pain had he endured to die by eating his own hands?

This is not the only strange murder case. And behind all the cases is the same hidden figure…

Like this, Ye Xiao and his partner, Su Mu, start to carry out the investigation.

It’s just that Ye Xiao’s cold colleague, who looks unfazed even when encountering mysterious events, seems to be…pretty strange too?

Honestly, I don't usually leave written reviews but seeing as there aren't any reviews, I'll just write one. The Real Awakening is what you can consider a classic detective webnovel: a pair of police officers solve crimes. There are seven volumes in total, and in each volume they'll solve one case. The first case wasn't mindblowing by any means, though it did have its twists and was an overall interesting read. One thing I have to highlight is the gruesome nature of this case. In brief words, it was disgusting.... more>> If you really enjoy horrid, bloody crimes then this is for you. There are also a lot of characters involved with a sad backstory, so expect a lot of angst. Now let's talk a little bit about the characters. There weren't any main side characters, just coworkers of our protagonists that were mentioned here and there, so I won't be talking about them. Let's get on with our MCs. Ye Xiao is a good MC, and I really enjoyed his character. He is easy going, annoying at times, thick-headed and shameless. During the novel, you can see that he is impulsive and reckless at times. However, when things get serious, he is rather reliable and knows what has to be done. Also, he is a rather compassionate and kind person, and readers can also understand his "emocional" moral views. Su Mu is Ye Xiao's partner and complete opposite. He is cold, uncaring, kinda scary and, honestly, a bit of a jerk sometimes. Su Mu is not emocional at all and will do what needs to be done in order to solve a case. I really enjoyed his mindset. Their dynamics are rather ordinary: due to their clashing personalities, they don't get along well. Ye Xiao usually drags Su Mu around, asking for free food, much to the latter's annoyance. Their relationship didn't evolve that much during this volume. However, I'm sure it'll do in the next six.

Overall, it's not anything "new" and "special" but it's a really good read for detective novel fans out there. Also, thanks for Laffy for their great translations and their even better taste in webnovels. <<less
