“Louis, trust me. Let’s escape together.”

“Yes, Juliana.”

Betrayed by her trusted fiance and a close friend. Louis, who spent the night with her, clenched her hand with an unreadable expression on his face.

“Louis, I’ll take responsibility!”

She thought she’d protect this fragile man… but what’s this?

Turns out he was the Empire’s lunatic!!

* * *

“Do you expect me to stay still when other men are drooling over what’s mine?” Louis looked straight at her and smiled beautifully, “Sweet, even your tears are so sweet… I’m not going crazy, am I?”

His low-pitched voice and intense gaze bound her with an unbroken possessive desire.

Can she get away from this crazy man?

The translator and the editor are doing a wonderful job with this very interesting story.

As the summary indicated, the story begins with Juliana finding out that her beloved fiancé and best friend are betraying her and having a relationship behind her back. She goes to a party, gets drunk, meets a very handsome man, and next thing she knows they're trapped together in a room.

There are several incidents that makes it obvious that Louis is the infamous lunatic of the empire. However, Juliana still has not caught on. But, you... more>> can't actually blame her since what are the odds that the exquisite man you spent the night with is the empire's lunatic who had taken serious interest in you? Though, not sure if that interest could already be called as love at this early point.

Spoiler

But bruh, he marks her on chapter 11. So maybe he's already claiming her as his? Still, not sure if it's already 'love' for him at that point.

And oh, Louis' hair and eye color are different from the empire's lunatic. Hence, may also be reason for Juliana's denial? So please don't blame poor Juliana.

This story is a great read (IMO). It's fresh in the sense that it's not transmigration/reincarnation. Also, you can really see/feel that the ML is indeed cray-cray. Though, so far it's just funny and makes for an engaging plot. ^^ <<less

It's strange haha. When MC and our man Louis are kidnapped to the tower I was already suspicious of who the kidnapper was. Because who the heck kidnaps two people who just had a one-night stand.

The novel has a comedic undertone and FYI the Yandere ML has not done anything cruel that crosses my bottom line yet (spoiler tag detailing my bottom line at end of review).

The novel shows the MC in a sweet kidnapped life with Louis, her fun attempts to escape with Louis (digging a hole with a... more>> spoon), and their bonding without having titles or identities get in the way of their budding relationship. After she finds out his identity, it becomes a sweet life of Louis stopping MC's escape attempts, and MC becoming laid back and taunting the weakhearted Louis.

Come to think of it, if the MC wasn't a bit of an airhead then she would have noticed Louis was the Lunatic who kidnapped her. He acted like a victim for the first hour of being "kidnapped" but after that, he didn't even pretend. Slowly leaking out his personality and letting MC become accustomed to who he is. Well, I like his attitude of going along with her escape attempts and acting like himself, if he constantly acted scared to fool MC I would have hated him. Right now, MC is the only one fooling herself, she is certain that Louis can't be the Lunatic, the other characters are just not confirming or denying. Honestly, I'm pitying the MC, while the MC is pitying Louis, while Louis is waiting for MC to realize. It's kinda fun lol.

Not entirely agreeing with his methods but Louis created a situation where MC would spend time with him without worrying about the Lunatic, he effectively shed off the Lunatic image to interact with her. He's not an entirely bad Yandere given the circumstances. Need to judge him by Yandere standards, not a normal person. He is still clearly a yandere, he's pretending to be kidnapped with her because he thinks it's fun. My bottom line, in a tag because it's just basics.

Spoiler

My bottom line is abuse, mental or physical.

Of course, it slightly varies from MC to MC based on how they react to it, what is abuse to one character may be acceptable to another, so you must watch the MC's emotions to know. I've seen the sadistic play and if MC is okay then I'm okay.

But for things like straight-up physical/mental abuse, idgaf if the MC accepts it, I'm out.

I will not place scum on my ship and let it sail with the MC, scum is instantly burned in hell and never to be redeemed. Exceptions may be considered for forced situations (higher power, etc.), but never for a "change of heart".

Read if you like yandere, ML within the first few chapters
Spoiler

kidnaps FL, imprisons her, restrains her magic, just because she got drunk and slept with him once. He also pretends to be a fellow prisoner to get her to lower her guard (?). Strong stockholm syndrome vibes.

Not my cup of tea, but translation quality is good at least.

I really like the story itself, it's quite refreshing to see the thoughts and perspective of the ML and FL as they converse and interact with one another. I quite enjoyed it!
I do wish the ML was a bit more psychotic? You know what I mean? Like, I don't know how to explain this, but to me, he just isn't as crazy as I thought he was going to be? I mean, I can see the crazy there, but I do wish he was more... crazy. Hahaha I guess I've read some novels where the ML was pretty f*cked up in the head LOL so this one seems somewhat a little too soft? Anyways, I still liked it.
There isn't much romance in here either, and That really... threw me off.
Spoiler

. So far, All this novel seem to be about is, the FL trying to hide her emotions, all the while, being unable to, since she expresses everything in her face? Like... come on now!
she's a try hard yandere I guess I'm a sense?
And what frustrates me is all the time she could've played with the ML inside the room, yet, they never did. Am I hornball for this? Because there was no ;

bathroom walk ins, no naked glances, falling over one another, or getting your clothes wet and dreaming about the wet body silhouette, no clinging to one another in bed while they slept, no drunk kisses... Like, nothing at all!!! Just frustrated pent up s*xual desires! I became sexually frustrates reading about about them!! And apparently! The ML had such strong s*xual desires, that he was in f*cking pain!!!! Like yoooooo!!! This dude was twisting in bed from a f*cking hard on and blue balls! 😂 why didn't the author talk about him rubbing one out or something? Urgh, this author is either a eunuch or a young child. But that vanilla face ML, ain't do nothing! It's as frustrating as the FL who couldn't f*cking discern that the lunatic was Louis. Like I too the f*cking hints!
Anyways, tips for the author, what would've been good is, if she lost her memory after falling from the tower. Making Louis lie about their relationship saying they were married. Then as she lived with him, and began to do her duchess duties, she began to encounter people who knew her, Louis bent his back to prevent people from approaching her, but like water slipping through fingers, he couldn't do the impossible, and the truth began to reveal itself. Making her confront Louis at some point and bombard him with all kind of doubts, driving him to an edge of emotions, making him feel color in his world, increasing his obsession. And once all her memories were back, she would have to face the challenging decision of either staying with him, or leaving him, since he had deceived her. If she was to choose to leave, he would go crazy and chase her down to confine her, because she was the only thing that gave her life. Then she could either grow feelings for him, like that disease where the victim falls for their kidnappers? Or, for a tragic ending, she kills herself, making him kills himself, since he learned that he couldn't live without her.

Translators did a great job on this story. 5 out of 5!

But alas, a weak plot is a weak plot is a weak plot. Huuuh! Gotta say important things three times.

Spoiler

I got tired real quick at how dumb the FL was. Took her more than 20 chaps to realise the truth when it was hardly ever hidden and then, about 30 chaps for her to finally escape. And you wonder why she only found out about her cheating fiance and friend late? Our FL truly not the sharpest tool in the shed ey...

Granted, author-nim wanted to express the duality of our crazy ML clearly. But when "puppy eyes" and "handsome therefore forgiven" plot devices kept being repeated, the story turned dull.

The one redeeming quality that I have hope for is that FL's father got to know about her cheating fiance before she got kidnapped. At least that way, the fiance can't scheme while she was gone.

That plus, Ar was smart enough to yeet himself away before he got caught by the ML. I like Ar already so he better not die.

It's interesting, the story and their interactions. She's on the slow side but it's not the annoying type. I can't quite relate to most of her thoughts but it's somewhat funny.

I like the ML tho he's a little bit crazy. I also prefer to read his pov since I'm curious about what goes on a crazy person's mind.

Not quite sure if it's the translating or original writing itself that makes the story so jumpy and hard to follow. The starting premise is intriguing - Julianna, a noble lady and practicing magician, is betrayed by her fiancé + bestie (soon forgotten but I presume will reappear later), decides to throw it all to heck and have a one-night stand with a mysterious hottie, only to wake up seemingly trapped with him in the "royal lunatic's" mansion.

Julianna's thought process is a mess; she doesn't really try to clarify things... more>> and use logic to understand her situation, but just assumes Louis is a weak unknown aristocrat despite the coincidences and his weird peculiarities.

The story did not give enough time to build context or understanding of the characters before jumping into this weird setting, so I was ultimately lost and uninvested in their plight. <<less
