Okay. So, so far, I don't think this is bad. Yes, the translation could use some work, but it's not terrible clarity-wise, and the plot seems pretty good so far. Mind you, again, I'm only on chapter 21, so I have no idea where the story will go, but so far, the main character isn't over-powered and has a rather clear sense of morals and a decent amount of common sense, especially when compared to the normal protagonists in this genre. That's why I gave it 5 stars: I don't... more>> think it's terrible enough to warrant its current score. Honestly, I'd probably give it about four so far--certainly no less than a 3.8, and even that's mostly because of the translation.

Spoiler

So, the plot so far is that the main character went back in time. He used to be basically cannon fodder--useless potential (called "blood" in this story), killed by the previous OP "protagonist" (I'm not sure if that's the proper term, but considering that guy slaughtered a ton of people and had the golden finger... I'm going with it), etc.

After he goes back in time, he manages to get the "hack" from the former OP protagonist in a way that involves pretty much no drama or conflict. (The original OP protagonist was a pretty nice guy before he went insanely power-hungry). Then, he realizes that the "golden finger", which is this black rock, can do a lot of things... for a price. The price is "soul value", which you get from killing people/animals (like, not normal ones, but the ones from this genre who cultivate/train and stuff), and the main character realizes this is probably what compelled the original OP protagonist who killed him to go slaughtering absurd numbers of... everything. Instead of fixing his "blood", which I assume is like a cultivation root or something and is someone everyone's born with, his first action with his golden finger is to improve his understanding (comprehension) of the martial arts he already has. (He gets the "soul value" by killing the lackey/henchmen of the minor antagonist I mention in the next paragraph, who was sent to kill him. Also, I liked that the lackey had a personality and wasn't completely unlikable, which is a rarity.)

When the main character is confronted by a typical minor antagonist (because there's a girl who is friendly to him and he's grateful for her kindness and she's not a completely flat character but the minor antagonist gets upset that she's speaking to him)... he doesn't immediately kill him. They fight, the other dude ends up with a broken arm, and the grievances are (mostly) settled. Then that minor antagonist's grandfather tries to sabotage MC, fails, get subtly insulted in public.

Also (I thought this was cool), MC basically

backs him into a corner. "Elder master, are you satisfied with this explanation? If you are, keep your promise and kneel down to admit your mistake to me then. Of course, you can also choose to lay it off, for you have chosen not to care your reputation, and I can do nothing." This was taken verbatim from Chapter 13: Kneel Down to Apologize.

And I think that quotation is a good representation of the story so far. The MC is fairly confident in himself, but not overly arrogant, and is rather likable, as far as things go. Also, the translation isn't great. Understandable, yes, but not great.

Since then,

the main character also kills another person, this time mostly because he's upset that person basically slaughters "more than a dozen innocent s*aves" (Chapter 18: The mu*derer Will Always Be mu*dered" in order to use their blood to lure out the "Bloody Ape" to get this super-rare, super-important "Fruit of Blood Fire".

Spoiler

Also. In chapter 21, the MC lets the other person go. This antagonist was the elder of the person the main character killed over the ape, and the MC attacks this person for similar reasons. Also, he's smart in first letting the person and ape weaken each other, and deliberately angers the person so that his wounds get worse. However, after he grievously injures the other person, the other person begs to be allowed to return. "'Fallen leaves should always return to the roots. Yun Chuan, could you allow me, an old man to go back to my Zhao Clan?'" And the MC lets him.

---------

I'm not sticking fully to the translation, but the part from the story is like this:

With a serious look Yun Chuan steps aside: "Please, old master."

"Thank you."

The two are polite, as if they were not enemies fighting over life and death. Zhao Jiu's face shows relief. He bows to Yun Chuan, rises into the air, and rushes in the direction of the Zhao Clan.

------

It's not s*upid, technically, because the other is grievously injured, but it's also not something someone heartless and solely motivated by selfish reasons would do. In chapter 22 (as of yet untranslated), the other person reaches home, and with his dying breath, warns the clan not to be hostile towards MC and not to seek revenge for his death.

The beginning of the novel was promising... I can turn a blind eye on the gaps, but the novel takes a bad turn since the 500th chapter... I am really sad about losing a novel like this like this.
