Overall (4.5/5)

Story (4/5)

The story starts in the time period before French revolution. The main theme of the novel is about how the bonaparte family came to power. This is a kind of alternate history novel, but the author also did well in incorporating actual historical facts and knowledge into the novel. The author did it so well that I sometimes wonder what is actual history and what is the altered part and had to look it up on google (lol). In terms of the plot, I think the... more>> greatest part of this novel is the french revolution arc, the politics and intrigue of this arc is very fun to read. The novel did got a bit worse near the end, but it is still fun enough to read.

Characters (5/5)

The author designed the characters very well. I don't feel irritated with any of the characters (I'm more irritated with the translation lol). Characters often had personalities similar to their historical counterpart, but the author also did add his own imagination, which makes the novel more interesting. The author also explained the character's action, which helps in understanding the character's motivation, some action that might seem unreasonable now might be reasonable due to limitations of the past era.

Translation (2.5/5)

I read Hollywood Novels translation. I think this is definitely an AI translation. There is a lot of mistake in names, places, and synonyms, which is the mistake most AI translation makes. Other than the usual mistakes, there are many other mistake. Some parts of the novel is missing. Some chapters had the same content twice. Some characters dialogue are switched. Like another reviewer said: Expect to be confused most of the time. <<less

The novel is good, but the translation is absolute garbage. Expect to be confused most of the time because the character names change every other chapter. The translator doesn't care about the sh*t quality and you'll find yourself reading same paragraphs repeated twice or thrice as if the translator just copy pasted them and forgot he already pasted them already. There are a lot of grammatical errors, misspellings, entire scenes missing, and character names being switched. A machine translated version of this is so much better. In fact, it's like... more>> this is the ret*rded version of an MTL. Reading this translation, is as fun as getting lobotomized. <<less

Really good novel with alot of nuanced historical info. I was writing a paper about the Crusades and I noticed some of the effects from that time period affected the novel’s setting which wouldn’t happen if the author didn’t know his stuff.

I liked the idea and the beginning. It played out very well. But I dropped it when

MC got involved in scientific research.

It really came out of nowhere for me.

I don't remember whether they mentioned his background in his previous life but I find it hard to believe that some of the most acclaimed scientists of the era would believe a theory that didn't hv experimental basis. (They did check by themselves ofc) but the MC literally wrote an experiment from his past life and submitted it so quickly. Not to mention he wasn't involved in science at all before he submitted the paper.

Even the paper was submitted becuz of a bet with his brother.

If I were in their place I would wonder if he had stolen it.

Also him dealing with the scientists made me wonder how did his skills in maths come about since I had no clue.

Other than that it's pretty good. The characters r generally well written if not complex. Keeps things interesting. <<less

The story is fantastic. The translation quality is excellent but first couple of chapters only contains half of the original chapter. You can only read half of some of the chapters. Then you have to MTL each chapter to read the remaining part. It was horrible. The MC is a cautious man. He takes level headed approach to issues. I liked the interaction between the Bonaparte siblings.

This is a good read. It's rather slow and often times a little repetitive, but it has a well founded place dropped in the middle of the French revolution. The main character isn't overpowered and actually feels like a historian with some college level mathematics background instead of a typical all knowing person able to dodge and weave through history always getting their perfect outcome.

If you enjoy historical novels and generally slower weak to strong growth pattern this is for you. If you're looking for the conquering hero takes on... more>> Europe look elsewhere to something like 'I became a genius of the French royal family' or similar titles <<less

A very nice surprise as turn to be this light novel. First of all, the quality of the translation is very high and make the flow of the story very easy to follow. Now, the high level of history know how in the novel make difficult to think that this was written by a Korean an not a Frenchman. The story is very interesting and we'll writed, with a good pace. If you like history and Napoleonic history then this is a great read.

Good start. So far I haven't seen any relevance to the "engineering" part yet. But the characters are interesting and the plot moves at a good pace. There is no OP weird stuff here and the MC doesn't steamroll through stuff with his future knowledge. For example

This was very interesting to read compared to most asian novels where they just make money and fame out of thin air. Translation quality is pretty good too. Eagerly anticipating more chapters. Will easily rate this a 9/10

There is lot of science and engineering here. Which is great! <<less
