I really like the plot device of ancient people coming into modern times that will then usually introduce a lot of cultural elements such as “long lost arts” as embroidery, ancient instruments and so on but at 74 chapters I had to drop the novel.

The main thing that irritated me was the constant “misunderstanding” or rather, ignorant assumptions from MC which can be logical especially at first, but after the third time MC realized they assumed wrong, they should try to enquire rather than assert.

Then I know this is a... more>> BG novel and that homosexuality is still a big taboo in modern china (ancient times it depends on periods and social classes but having the only portrayal of homosexuality being a deranged villain with extreme violence and staling behavior and main antagonist at this point is really vexing for me, especially since it’s not the criminal behaviors but their s*xual orientation that is pointed as “abnormal”, “obscene”, “perverse” when the crimes take the backseat.

Also at this point of the story the “palace fight” has been concluded (unless there is another deus ex machina) and it transition to purely romance and slice of life with probably the focuses being : flirting with ML with all the misunderstanding, entertainment industry, trying to get the MIL to like her by being of a good reputation in the upper society... chapter 70

The story revolves around our MC that has time traveled (and switched bodies permanently) with the OG!body - presumably because OG died in the body? MC operates the first 50ish chapters only having pieces of the OG's memory which results in various situations due to misunderstandings.

So the first set of antagonists have already been cleared and now the story has moved into focusing on the romance between MC and ML along with MC's career.

I see what the other two reviewers were saying about the misunderstand trope this whole story is following. The summary made it sound funny but it isn't hitting quite the same in the novel. Also the summary isn't quite accurate - I thought those quotes would indicate actual situations but it's more giving the vibe of the story instead.

By chapter 70, this story is reading like a slice of life romance story. I'm not sure if I'll be able to stick through the misunderstanding/assuming trope tho. Already I'm annoyed about MC's common sense or lack thereof.

chapter 187

Things have picked up a bit and much of the relationship misunderstandings that I voiced earlier were resolved all at once. Now the MC and ML have been lovely dovey like crazy.

We've entered the acting arc. And also new antagonists. One is tied to the previous antagonist. Seems s*upid reasoning but okay. It is a face slapping drama so nonsensical reasoning is ofc common 🫠.

chapter 497

The story was getting a bit boring around 300s so I started speed reading. There's quite a lot of filler chapters. Or rather, content separated into chapters when it makes more sense to be within one chapter. The plot is building up. A lot of thr antagonists aren't just one and done. They're interwoven on some way - or most of them at least. It took until now to finally see the potentially main villain.

I might need to take a break from this story. It's certainly not riveting but it's definitely long. Hopefully I can reread my review and remember what this story is about.

This Huo family is pretty annoying... My chest is getting stuffy at how they are treating the MC so far. There's not even much to know about the MC's previous behaviour just blatant hatred. The little sister is always huffy and disrespectful, and the mother-in-law is also another 'I'm better than you' type of existence. Lord help me...

I didn't finish reading it, I stopped where she was kidnapped. It's too dramatic and misunderstanding-y for my liking. maybe I'll go back and read it again.

Not going to rate yet as still not done but I want to leave a review for those feeling doubtful upon reading the first comment.

From the tag it's clear this would not be an LGBTQ+ novel. And from the way it's progressing it obviously have no intention to be one. This novel depict being straight as "having no issue/problem", indicating that not straight = abnormal. I would agree this is bad and pairing a non-straight character with a deranged cannon fodder (not main villain, I'm not that sure if they... more>> will come back again, seem to have been solve) makes this worst. But I have to remind everyone this has 1, 320 chapters.... Even in this first 80 chapters we have 2 cannon fodders (1 female straight attach to Huo Shaoting, and 1 female non-straight attach to FL family) The odds of one of the cannon fodders being LGBTQ+ is high.

I will however say despite being 1k chapters, this is not the kind that's "easy to digest", still have a lot of paragraphs explaining the scenario than dialogues like the usual. Making it quite tiring to read, fortunately it doesn't drag the plot.

Lastly this is obviously not realistic. It takes a long time for our grandparents and parents adapt to today's technology what more an ancient person? At least the former grow up with TVs, radios and other electronic device what more an ancient person? Yeah no. <<less
