The male:female ratio (1:5) is nothing too crazy, girls are more interested in boys than usual but they're not permanently h**ny (except for maybe one of the heroines), some other novels with this premise just go totally overboard and hurr durr im so thirsty I want ze c0ck I wanna bang MC (then I read them shitass novels anyway lol)

Masato, our boi the MC, is a college boi who likes basketball. He works part-time at a host club that his adoptive mother/guardian owns (he was an orphan) and also... more>> works part-time as a tutor. You know the drill, generally kind and helpful to women unlike other guys in this world plus some other cliches

The best part of this novel is the heroines. One office lady (OL), two college girls (JD), one high school girl (JK), and one middle school girl (JC). An overworked OL venting her work frustations to her dedicated host, a childhood friend JD, a genki girl JD looking for the owner of the handkerchief who helped her out a la the prince in cinderella, a closet pe*vert JK pretending to be a literary girl with a hilarious group of friends who keep making fun of her about her delusions for her tutor, and a basketball-playing JC who's getting bullied by her senpais in the team cuz she's so good at it and got picked as a starter. While spending time with the MC they all change in some manner, though not all in a good way,

Spoiler

I remember the few chills down my spine I got while reading OL's chapters as her rationality slowly gets destroyed. After hanging out with her coworker she accidentally stumbles upon MC going home and she stalks him and notes his address while feeling guilty, she gets reality checked by her friends for getting half of her monthly salary s**ked off by MC since they say he is just acting his part as a host, she gets forced to work overtime so she's late to the host club that the MC gets nominated by a different girl (it's the genki girl twintail JD who was looking for her benefactor), she gets more dependent on the MC and she slowly devolves into an obsessed yandere stalker with really concerning thoughts, legit got me going "yikes", I won't spoil how her situation is resolved when she acts on her desires but it is very satisfying

The JK awakens a voyeurism/cuckolding (?) fetish from seeing MC getting assaulted (?) in the bushes during a festival

[collapse]

Main heroine status belongs to the JC btw (her later chapters are just so good compared to the other girls, fite me irl) <<less

After reading this I checked out a couple of stories with similar premises and I have to say the others are terrible by comparison.

What this novel does is to

actually reverse the roles, and not just make the whole world h**ny and / or subservient to the MC. Each of the romances would work as their own story in a regular novel if the genders were reversed (or rather "normal").

... more>> The following contains

minor spoilers, but I'm trying to exclude as much plot as possible as well as how the relationships develop, but I thought it would be best to list the relationships and what they might be normally:

Spoiler
    • To the owner of a boys (girls) bar, he's a poor orphan that she (he) picked up from the street to give him (her) shelter until he (she) can support himself (herself). Significant age-gap, but more of a familial relationship and no ulterior motives (for now), but might be seen as concerning from the outside.
    • To an office lady (salaryman) who gets dragged to said bar by her friends, he's the "innocent" host who just got caught up in that sort of business and genuine instead of flashy and purely flattering like the other ones working there, and she develops a slightly unhealthy attachment and desire to monopolise him.
    • To a sports fanatic middle schooler who isn't interested in romance with her peers he's the mature guy who's also surprisingly good at sports for his gender and even takes up a bit of a mentor role.
    • To the "normal" college student, he's the long lost childhood friend who came back into her life, having become quite attractive in both personality and looks after puberty, even if not in an overly flashy way.
    • To her friend who is essentially the equivalent of the "male best friend" character from regular male MC romance novels who is fast to fall in love and confess but gets brutally rejected, he's the first guy to treat her well and not getting arrogant based on the romantic privilege of his gender towards someone "average".
    • To the nerdy and secretly h**ny highschool girl with glasses who mostly reads fantasy romance and erot*c novels, he's the attractive university student tutoring her, including occasionally being "unguarded" or getting too close physically without realising how stimulating that is for someone inexperienced.
[collapse]

For each of those heroines, I've read at least one manga or novel (most likely several) with a male MC in a similar situation.

The MC in this novel doesn't always understand their behaviour, but if you actually reversed the gender roles it would be easy to see why some of the situations are flustering or concerning for the other characters in that world who have "common sense".

Other than that, the characters themselves are fairly well-written and the story is enjoyable and funny overall. The novel does go through a bunch of cliches, but that's part of the point to show them from the opposite perspective.

Depending on your preferences, the pace might be slow, but I personally don't mind it, I would just like to be able to read more of it, so I'm looking forward to that in the future. <<less
