Take my opinions as you will as I am only a manhwa reader

With the translation of the novel only reaching a mere 9 chapters I can understand why the novel is overlooked and rated mediocre. Using my qualifications as a manhwa reader I can inform you it’s the sort of info first plot later kind of story.

What charmed me about this story is the wacky mix of cliches. On one had we have tragedy relying to the MC’s ability of seeing ghosts and her tragic past life because of this fact. We also have the ‘reincarnation from modern life into fantasy world with nobility. Then there is the whole romance aspect with the all mighty and handsome (thicc) ML and on top of that we have her hiding her identity and ability due to sorcery being illegal. But the most bazaar thing is her actions to get what she wants, like when she disguises herself as an old lady and jumps in front of the crown princess carriage and proceeds to tell him that she’s a sorcerer that can see the future where he is going to die soon... Ahahaha. There is also a much darker undertone to the story. This is still speculation but underneath the romance there seems to be either a very dense protagonist that doesn’t know she has feeling for him and wants to save him or some sort of mind control or forgotten reason. Also the contrast between the vengeful ghosts that cause death and suffering compared to the happy and lively ghost back at the palace just gives a eerie feeling. As well as her happy, loving and doteful family within such a dark setting.

I really have to say this here while the novel is good it actually lacks and sometimes drags alot which can make it a little boring now what I recommend is reading the manhwa!! Oh god the manhwa art, the event's consequences, the mystery, the romance is all wayyy better portrayed than the novel tbh and let me say the manhwa doesn't really follow the novel exactly and there's alot of changes that I for once like and really glad about cause the manhwa makes so much more sense and... more>> is more interesting than the novel and I should give it to the artist cause this novels manhwa art is literally the most gorgeous ever bruh the way you can even hear the rain or the wind only by seeing the drawing is actually so incredible and you can see the artist's effort in every single panel!! So to conclude I recommend reading the manhwa more than reading the novel that's all!! <<less

I'm quite certain I won't be posting this review publicly because so many people seem to love and blindly praise this story, and I'm taking the completely opposite stance lol. In my opinion, if a story consistently has its readers commenting and making posts that ask "I'm confused", "I don't understand", "Can someone explain?", or "What's even going on?", in practically almost every chapter/episode, it's a sign of failure in communicating the plot and story to its own readers. On the other hand, the artwork is definitely it's strongest points;... more>> it's absolutely breathtaking, gorgeous and incredibly charming. I have zero doubts about the illustrations, and you can definitely gradually see how the artists improves on their artwork, though I honestly think that fans only ever really talk about the art and how attractive they think the characters are rather than the actual story in itself, and beyond just saying how the characters are just "so complex and interesting" and how the story is "super deep", I don't think half of them could actually give you a thorough explanation as to why exactly beyond the surface level or them just saying so. The writing of the story and plot itself is undeniably it's weakest points, as it comes off as confusing, perplexing, overly convoluted and complicated, along with it just trying too hard to come off as far too dramatic and over-the-top with its melodrama. Some scenes are confusing, and the female lead, Rosentine's, personality is also confusing; she seems unstable and inconsistent when it comes to her character and it fluctuates a lot, with some of her behaviors are only explained towards the end, but the explanations for it aren't very good either, making them unbelievable and weren't handled that well. Instead of instantly being amazed or having a "wow" moment, you might think, "Oh really?" or "Oh, well, okay", combined with the fact that the manhwa is updated for free on Kakao every 7 days, my recommendation is to read and pay for the entire season in one go. Otherwise, you'll be confused, lose the emotional connection, won't get into it, won't understand, fail to follow the plot and will definitely give up and drop it halfway through.

The pacing can be very slow and all over the place both due to the bad translation and that of the original story itself, and the world building (politics, curses, competing beliefs, etc.) is somewhat overly complex especially with the unreliable narrator and how the story comes down to blessings/curses by powerful entities with these gods and all, so it feels like everyone are just these puppets dancing on these strings with little agency, and it's hard to have to keep up with several of the events of the story, with it being heavily laden with lore and confusing exposition dumps after exposition dumps that require 100% concentration and it overrelies on it way too much, making it a difficult read rather than an enjoyable one.

I'm gonna be honest, it really comes down to whether you like the plot or not, but there is one character I especially like: the male lead's older brother. It's rare to find siblings who don't fight or squabble over the throne, or have this sort of "rivalry" with each other, especially in a genre like this. He's a "smiling character who loves his brother, the people, and his father, yet he also has a very ruthless side to him", type of deal. He does everything to pave the way to the throne for his younger brother, and when you combine that with the gorgeous art style, the older brother is incredibly charming. I don't find any of the characters to be annoying or grating, and I'm glad they at least exist beyond dumb character archetypes we've seen before in manhwa, but I just kind of find myself feeling just bored and tired when reading it. I still enjoyed some points of the story, and I can see the appeal and why so many people seem to love this series, but maybe all that gave me big expectations that later disappointed me when this wasn't anything special for me. It's not outright horrible or even terrible, but it definitely isn't a "masterpiece" or as "flawless" as so many people/fans make it out to be, and it feels like more so like "meh" or "decent" at best, and I think most just enjoy it solely for the artwork alone as the story and plot itself feels like an excessively messy, boring, complicated and all over the place to go through and work with at worst. I'll admit that I haven't read the second season yet, I don't know if I really even want to, but I might give it a try once I work up the motivation to do so. I do wanna try reading the novel though since I hear from a lot of people that it's a lot better, but idk if that's entirely true or not. <<less
