He was treated harshly by his environment, and no one was ever nice to him. But as long as there was such a person, a corner of the curtain would be opened for the person in the cage. Then, a person like him would also find the light. This was an animal’s instinct, a desire to survive.

Su Beimo was a beam of light, opening the door of the ‘prison’.

It was him who saved Liao Nanqing, who had been living with an inferiority complex.

In a sea of face-slapping, transmigrating, rebirth, rich CEOs, showbiz, etc novels, this one feels oddly realistic. So take note of the tags and what genre you're in the mood to read. There are no easy fixes anywhere and not everything is wrapped up neatly in a nice little bow. I will admit at one point I wanted ML to be a rich CEO throwing money at the all the problems and spoil MC because you want to root for MC to just have an easy happy life. But ML... more>> is just an ordinary man and the only extraordinary thing about him is his love for MC. And that's ok because there's something to be said for 2 people working through all of the ups and downs of life together.

It is a HE but it doesn't feel like a "happily ever after." It's work in progress because the problems haven't all magically gone away and everyone is all healed and holding hands singing kumbayah at then end. I appreciate that there is a mention of ongoing therapy for MC's mental health issues. <<less

I love it??? So much??? Honestly it was kind of unexpected that I would like this so much because usually acceptance story like this leaves me a bit of a bad taste because of the parents. But the love, the relationship, the dynamic really pulled through. It was a very satisfying ending. Everything was sorted out properly, the issues were not downplayed, and although some things were a bit unreal it still flows naturally.

for anyone saying nanqing is developing emotional dependance in beimo, I understand. It does feel a bit like that but I think at least he’s better. For one, he’s not overly possessive or a pessimist. He knows what he wants, he doesn’t guard beimo excessively or gives everything to beimo blindly (like letting beimo keep another lover for example or please beimo in any way that degrades himself). So maybe, before overly accusing him of having an emotional dependence, take this little bit of opinion as a consideration.

and honestly while reading I felt a lot of emotional up and downs. I feel scared for nanqing. When the first issue about beimo knowing about his origins happened I still feel, well, that’s okay, he’s a bit more chaotic than other people but everyone always has a back story anyways. But when the third issue arrived (him breaking down and psychologically messed up to the point he peed himself in a nightmare), that’s when my heart sinks.

Because, well, realistically speaking, people’s love is limited. And coming for beimo, a young man in the best time period of his life, his career rising, would he really stoop down, resign everything just to be with nanqing? Also when nanqing was so scared that he’d even reject beimo and when beimo also was in almost (???) Mental breakdown because he’s afraid that his love would not be enough for nanqing to accept him (again), I thought like would this be a breaking point for him to be impatient and decide to leave nanqing. Because once again, people’s love and patience is limited. I won’t blame him but also at the same time I feel distressed for nanqing. In any case when this arc happened I really felt like nanqing would die alone. Because if this happened in real world for real, someone like beimo is almost impossible to find.
