The guy is an infamous moneygrubber working different jobs but later you find out he's actually saving up to marry his childhood sweetheart who is the most beautiful girl in the town. However, many people are interested in her and one of them attacks him. While he doesn't die like in the previous life, one of his injuries is in the groin area and he becomes impotent. They talk and he decides to let her go because not only does she really like children but also because he will not be able to protect her as they are both poor commoners and she could be taken by force. He wants her to find a more powerful person to act as her backing.

She is later recruited during a concubine selection for a noble and becomes especially favoured because she has children very easily. Later on her husband becomes the crown prince. However, her commoner background makes it harder to fight with other concubines and the main wife. The guy decides to become an eunuch in the palace and works hard to move up ranks until he becomes her servant in order to support her, acting as her sword and shield even if they can't actually be together.

The girl in turn works harder to amass power so that she can also protect him and her clidren. However, she is being forced to have so much children continuously without breaks as the prince and his wife pretty much consider her a birthing machine as not many other concubines have children or they die young. Her body begins to weaken until she finally begs FL to sneak in a sterilising medicine for her.

After the husband dies she takes control and becomes the Empress Dowager. At the very end of the novel the eunuch asks to retire because he much older now and is dying and he wants to be able to spend the rest of his time peacefully by himself. She asks if he is going to leave her too as by then many of their friends including MC and ML have left the palace to live their own lives. They have a quiet moment reminiscing about what could have been and talk as friends for the last time because up to this point they have been acting according to the strict master and servant hierarchy. The next time she hears of him he has already passed away.
