What was it that connected the protagonists of the mu*der investigation in the two parallel worlds? With the collision of time and space, the two parallel spaces had quietly changed. He Wei gradually found that this was an unsolvable situation. Struggling in the cycle of fate, how could Cheng Zesheng be saved?

I’d recommend this novel for the plot mainly, the time loops and logic are well made and fun to figure out.

Individually, the MC and ML are interesting characters but somehow when put together, they make a lesser whole.

Personally I believe it’s because they’re too similar in their personalities: both are intense, not easily moved and intelligent people. The MC comes across as cold and aloof while the ML is brooding and aloof. The ML does have a lighter personality but not by much. This makes their relationship feel just a... more>> tad dull and underwhelming with low chemistry.

If anything, the ML’s brother ends up being the most interesting character.

Another review complained that the romance happened too fast but they missed the main plot point; time loops. It’s not that it’s fast, it’s that they’ve fallen for each other so many times that immediately the other person occupies their attention by just existing. So while I understand MC’s desperation and it’s logical; the relationship itself was a bit lacking to me. I would’ve liked to grieve the ML just as much as MC but felt unfortunately meh over it.

The thing that contributed to this meh feeling a lot was that the second half of the novel as it is entirely from MC moving the plot as the ML has exited the stage, turn left. So while the first half each had MC and ML solving the other’s mu*der and cases as a team, the second half had barely any ML, making him feel like a vase character. Far far too many chapters where ML does absolutely nothing. I almost feel bad for him because he was an extremely capable and intelligent police captain.

I’m happy to read this novel once, and if you enjoy time shenanigans and cool intelligent characters, then this will be an enjoyable read. However I’m unlikely to come back for a re-read and the characters are not very memorable compared to other novels. <<less

I should’ve rated this a long time ago.

This novel is spectacular. How spectacular? I have the author’s autograph~ signed copies!

There are two main reasons why I’d say this novel stands out compared to many other.

... more>> —> Fleshed out romance

—> Well-thought out plot.

PLOT:

First, the premise is very interesting and the storyline slowly picks up. It begins with two police officers in parallel universes encountering the death of ‘each other’. How do they know this? Well it’s because the apartment the two of them move into is a portal of sorts that overlaps their time node, causing them to exist in the same dimensional plane— our favorite sci-fi trope!

When they figure out that they have a mysterious ‘stranger’ whom they cannot see living in the same place as them they slowly try to figure out what’s going on and get acquainted- mainly to solve the case, the case of their two deaths since it has many abnormalities.

So far so good right? Then it gets angsty (Prepare)

ROMANCE:

The romance is amazing because this is basically ‘love is blind’, our ML is really fantasizing about a dead (?) invisible person haha and he doesn’t hide it either, however the angst is not excluded, how could a relationship in an apartment unit work? What about their ‘deaths’ in each of their respective worlds? It’ll all be answered.

———

I do feel the end is very complicated, especially when we reach the ‘resolution’ which I think could’ve been done better, but this small flaw doesn’t take away how amazing this work was, from the small details, pay attention to Chekhov's gun!

And the main thing is, I was too busy sobbing and crying in the last few chapters to even care about what was happening, we root for the couple ah! Sprinkling flowers.

Really, highly recommend. <<less

Firstly, it was a really really really good read. The plot was thrilling and it had me hooked throughout the book. I will say this book is a must for those who like reading mysteries. As for me, although I liked reading mysteries, sometimes, some of the books are just too difficult and too complicated for me to solve the mystery. But the author of this book put sufficient clues here and there for us to solve throughout the book and not like some books where you don't know what's... more>> happening and then there is the protagonist suddenly finding out the solution and stuff. Of course, there are also some weak plots and plot holes but these are minors so we can ignore them more or less.

Spoiler

There is this time when He Wei went to see the movie about parallel world and stuff. I don't remember which chapter clearly T T I also don't clearly remember the plot of that movie T T blame my s*upid brain, but I'm pretty sure he said the protagonist who killed himself to save the other protagonist in that movie was s*upid and that he would never do this because he believed there was no point in doing so and that there was no meaning in killing oneself to save the other if the two of them could not survive together. I pretty much related to that when he said that. And when He Wei 2 killed himself to save He Wei 1 and Ze sheng, I was reminded of this movie He Wei once went to see. After I have read this chapter, there was this realization that people often say it's a s*upid thing to do but when it comes to themself, they end up choosing this s*upid way to save your loved one even if it meant killing yourself :)) Ah I was once again reminded that love is such a magical thing.

[collapse]

Also, the small details that you will probably find unimportant in the first chapters become really important clues in the later chapters. So be sure to stay alert and not miss any clues. The author is so good at writing that all my doubts and confusions became clear in the later chapters. It was an exciting and enjoyable read. It was fun deciphering the clues and unraveling the mystery together with He Wei. So, I hope you guys will have fun reading too. ^^ Also, this is just my opinion and it may not be everyone's cup of tea. But, I recommend you to try once and maybe drop it if you don't like it ^^ <<less

I just knew abt this via twitter and when I read its synopsis, I was intrigued how the story goes. Fortunately, I persisted, although it's sometimes confusing, I was able to grasp the main point of the story so I guess it was fine.

I actually love this, I love the main He Wei and Chen Zesheng. At the end of the story, I was actually shipping He Wei and Zesheng's brother haha.

Many thanks to the translator for completing the main story. Patiently waiting for the extras, I want more of... more>> the CP.

Also, I personally think it's better to be adapted into a movie/series. Given how complex the time paradox is, it would be effective if it will be shown in a film especially the loops He Wei encountered. <<less

Ahhhh I just finished it and couldn't wait to write a review. To organize this better, I will split it into what I liked and disliked.

Liked:

Let's start with the premise, the moment the first chapter was uploaded the premise easily caught my attention, I immediately thought: "Yeah, I'm gonna wait until this gets fully translated to read it." And am I glad I did. The two of them investigating each other's mu*ders, the parallel worlds, the investigations, it was all so much fun.

Next, the characters. I loved them so much!!!... more>> The side characters are important to the story, not just thrown to the side either, they actually have personalities and backgrounds to them. In the beginning, a lot was happening and I was worried that I wouldn't keep track of them and, quite frankly, none of them stood out to me. Not even the main characters. Luckily, that wasn't the case at all! The MC, He Wei was perfectly flawed and genuinely interesting. The ML, Cheng Zesheng always had me laughing and smiling away.

Spoiler

When this man insisted he was still straight after literally having a wet dream about He Wei that very night before.

[collapse]

And their chemistry... when I tell you it was off the charts, from their first meeting to their last scene, they fit so well together. I also really enjoyed He Wei and Cheng Zhenqing's friendship, their banter was a lot of fun and I couldn't help wishing we had more of them together. Other side characters I also loved, including Lian Jingyuan
Spoiler

I can't help but wish he had some sort of solace, I felt quite bad for him at the ending

[collapse]

And then the story: A lot of the plot progressed in a way I expected which is a first for me as I'm usually not the brightest when it comes to these types of novels. But! There were so many plot twists that had my jaw dropping to the ground!

Spoiler

He Lu having a twisted obsession with Office Worked He Wei was genuinely so shocking! Also, Lian Jingyuan in love with He Wei was something I was worried was going to happen, thought: "no way, it's not happening" and then it did happen!

[collapse]

And finally, some things I disliked:

In the beginning, I found the writing a little lacking, not sure if it's the translation or the author's writing, it just failed to drag me into the story.

Speaking of the writing, there are quite a few typos but it honestly doesn't affect the story much so you can read it with clear understanding, but if you're picky about that thing just be warned.

And lastly, there's an inters*x character and some transphobic comments are made towards them which honestly annoyed me a little. Sometimes there's also emphasis on the physical differences between men and women which I'm used to in CN novels but it still made me roll my eyes every time. There's also the "only gay for you" sentiment that rolls around here and there but at the end of the novel they both fully come out so it's not that bad.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story a lot, I think it's going to stick with me for a while. <<less

First of all, I was NOT expecting to love this book as much as I did!!! The plot twists were THERE from the beginning, and I can't wait to re-read it and pick up on the little details I never noticed before. I sincerely admire anyone who can write about complicated topics like parallel universes and time twists well, and this author did so masterfully with no threads left loose.

Spoiler

Slightly bittersweet ending if you were a fan of He Wei's universe, but it's still an incredibly happy ending for ALL the He Weis and Cheng Zeshengs involved

I loved this story.

Clear 10/10!

The best part about the story is that the MC is pretty OP himself. There's no need for the ML to come save him. In fact, in certain aspects, the MC is better than ML, which is a bit rare in novels these days. I really appreciate that.

... more>> While I thought of one or two plot holes, mostly, everything that needs to be addressed in this considerably complicated story, has been addressed.

This story reminded me of "Mist" which is also one of my favorite BL novels of all time. If you like this one, I think you'll like Mist too (in case you haven't read it yet).

I actually did not read the summary before reading the novel (Still haven't read it). So in my POV, the beginning was a common mystery novel. Honestly, I was a bit bored while reading the first few chapters. Then, the actual plot came into play and I was here for it. I'm glad I did not read the summary, because the supernatural aspect was a pleasant surprise to me.

All in all, loved it! 10/10 Recommended!!! <<less

I gave only 4 stars just so for the romance aspect, it seemed a little off sometimes. But for plot, my god! What a journey it was. How could people come up with such twists and turns, it is beyond me.

New readers with no worries dive right in. Mist and replacing evil way burned my non-existent brain cells for sure. Hahahaha

It didn't catch my eye in the first few chapters, but later on it got really interesting and I ended up finishing the whole novel in a day, lol.

For some reason I'm not satisfied with the ML? I lowkey ship MC more with MLs brother.

Lian Jingyuan deserved MC the most imo 😭😭 He did so much for MC and it's clear MC values their friendship too.

... more>> But the ML is still fine, I guess. He's not a bad ML, but I find him less appealing compared to LJY and CZQ.

Overall, this novel is recommended for sure!

This novel reminds me of Mist because of the complicated time travel and time loops. (Go read Mist if you haven't I HIGHLY recommended it!! It's amazing!)

One thing I don't understand (major spoiler)

Spoiler

was He Wei3 the one who died in CZS1's world? It wasn't clearly addressed, but considering the fact that CZQ stopped He Wei2 from strangling He Wei3, it implies that they changed the "future" so in the next time loop (if it happened) He Wei3 wouldn't be dead which means that CZS1 wouldn't be involved in solving his mu*der (cause it never happened). So does that mean originally, the body of He Wei found in the mansion (in CZS1's world) was He Wei3?

[collapse]

I rate this novel 4.65/5 <<less

I like my romance like I like my chai—a mix of various ingredients. If it's laced with just romance, the story fails to capture me, thus making this story exactly my cup of tea.

Replacing the evil way—neither the title nor the summary prepared me for the twists and turns on this rollercoaster.

So, let's break it down. What was the journey like?

... more>> 1. What? Where?? How???

Everything, everywhere, all at once....'s younger, more testosterone-pumped brother is how I would describe some parts of the story. Our leads, conversely, are a ride-or-die kind of couple, much like Romeo and Juliet, if she wasn't a minor, they were both men and detectives, and it was a happy ending. Space and time are just constructs, and so are people in this story, in a fun way! I have sprinkled some more story bits in other sections without spoiling too much.

2. You + Me = ∞

The story is mostly told from the perspective of our MC, a given. Though I found that the ML's perspectives add so much more substance and good chaos to the story, which, as you read on, you realize we dont get enough of (ᗒᗣᗕ) ՞

Spoiler

I honestly like every version of them as individuals and as a couple.

[collapse]

Their worlds collide, quite literally, and the hoops they go through to get to each other is perfectly in tune with the mayhem around them. They are solid characters that I came to care about a great deal. They're not my favorite couple in the whole wide world, but they're pretty grounded, which I appreciate. I actually like them more as individuals and less as a couple, which is a flaw that I will talk about later.

3. Chess pieces for daaaayyysss!

There are about a handful of side characters that the author focuses on more than the rest at different points for different reasons. But more number of side characters confuse me much, my brain no handle, mush it become! But, I get it, 'tis be the art and necessity of world building. When reading, I felt there were some characters that the author was focusing on more than they needed to, but, in hindsight, I realize that this perspective helps the reader understand the main characters and the story a little better. Do I have a favorite? YES! One character in particular I liked more than the ML ⸜ (。˃ ᵕ ˂) ⸝♡ but it's more of a personal preference than a jab at the character writing.
Spoiler

Oh! A special message to the non-human side character: you are a goddamn God among us mere mortals and you deserve the best of the best and I love you so very much (ಥ◡ಥ) ❤️ ฅ^•ﻌ•^ฅ

[collapse]

4. Love is a peeping tom~

Ok, so the author focuses more on the sci-fi stuff, which I absolutely looooveeedddd. Head over heels, boots down, beam me up Scotty cause the nerds are in town! And the area where the story suffered the most was, unfortunately, the L of the BL. I honestly don't get why and how they got together so soon...? Hear me out! They have chemistry, no doubt. It just felt like at the end of a chapter I was reading about how the MC was reluctant about being in any sort of non-platonic relationship with the ML, and the start of the next chapter 💥Σ (°△° ꪱꪱꪱ) 💥 they are a couple! The ML's transition from "I find you fascinating and an equal in my field" to "I want to do so much steamy horizontal tango with you" made me wonder if I had slipped into a time warp and skipped a few chapters. That being said, there's actually not much to be said about the romance. The theme of love is entertwined with the main story and the cases the detectives solved. So, what is driving both MC and ML towards each other in the story is the power of love, but it's not romantic ya know. Their lack of introspection about "falling in love with someone from the same s*x but I am not gay" was concerning and frustrating.
Spoiler

I actually find the half-a-chapter long romantic relationship of Employee HE and Pianist CZ more endearing, sweet, and well, ROMANTIC.

[collapse]

In confusion conclusion... I loved the story. It pulled me in, held me down, and embraced me very hard. Months prior to finding this story, I had been in a loop of my own—a loop where I would read a few chapters of a new story and then toss the story into the abyss. RTEW tore through that mobious strip and made me feel like a new person again (dramamamama) !

That's all folks! <<less

One of a kind masterpiece that hooked me up throughout the storyline. I really loved the twists and turns which caught me off guard at some points. Also, our Captain Cheng and Captain He are so adorable and lovely. I really loved the way their relationship flowed and the strong bond they built after every obstacle they went through. It starts really good, good suspense, lifelike action, interesting characters and a good banterful romance. Somewhere towards the last third of the book the plot starts convoluting to the point where it makes no sense for the reader or the writer. There's plot holes which I don't really mind, but there were some decisions made by the protagonist that I was ??? My way through the book. The other thing I do not like about this is the "I'm not gay I only like him" and just- no.

All in all,... more>> it's good and a fun read. But it has it's flaws. <<less

4 stars for the author and translator's hard work. 3 stars for my enjoyment of the novel.

It's complicated and messy with 2 versions of one character and 3 of the other; each created in their own parallel worlds and then overlapping into the others.

At times I was confused and so was either the author and/or translator as names were sometimes mixed up in the later chapters. There were events where I wasn't sure what was happening, but I do applaud the author's effort to create something unique that others apparently... more>> appreciate and love. For me, it was just an effort to try to keep it all straight.

Was scared to read this at 1st cus my brain can’t brain complex math, parallels science and deduction. Lol, but surprisingly it’s an easy read. It relative short. Most scenarios quite familiar if you watch most sci fi or similar theme movies. So its kinda easy to understand. Both ML and MC characters were very good. The story is a good read and the characters are interesting. However, I cannot say the plot was very original, but it kept you reading. I liked the relationship between the two main characters but I feel like it should have been flushed out more. There were a lot of bits where it felt like it should have been explained more, or dug into a little bit deeper. It was a good short read, but I wouldn’t say it’s anything special.

Highly recommended for those who likes parallel universe, time travel, mystery, sci-fi, super natural thing! I agree with the other reviewer, if you like this one then you'll definitely going to like MIST too.

The only thing that I dislike is the romance part, I mean how the ML falls in love really quick with the MC, and the MC was just given a little "push" by a co-worker, then that's it, they were suddenly in a relationship! Lol I don't mind slow pace romance at least there's tension, there's a... more>> slow build up with the emotions, but here it's like.. Oh that's it? They're together already?! Oh well!

The side characters are not decorations, especially LJY and Cheng Zhenqing. I feel sad for LJY, I think he helped HW's in whatever universe he's in, he deserves happiness too! Even Stephen were taken away from him.

Overall, a very good read, a little confusing at first but it'll gradually unfolds as the story progresses. <<less
