Hi all. I'm the translator for this novel and reading it along the way. It is a pretty long story with more than 190+ chapters, however, I'm categorizing it according to how the book is laid out into 2 volumes. If there are any mistakes in the translation, just post a comment on the site.

Being born without a father and having a promiscuous mother, Bai Yan learned from a young age to protect herself from getting hurt. However, she never thought she would fall into a marriage trap with a... more>> man who not only cheated on her but married her for revenge. Bai Yan just wants a normal simple family life, however, her husband will not divorce and leave her alone, his ex-lover comes to harass her, his political opponent keeps bothering her for scandal leads, the new doctor seems to have an interest in her, and her childhood lover appears back in her life... what is Bai Yan supposed to do? Lots of drama, laughter and tears

I think the highlight of this story is our female protagonist - a beautiful, smart, charming young nurse and how she approaches obstacles and tricky situations with grace, self-respect, and witty remarks. She is also not one without flaws and understands her own involvement for the failed marriage. Towards the second half of the story, we get to see how her wits save the person she loves and had all high figured men wholeheartedly impressed and defeated by her.

Everyone has their own reasons for wanting to be in a relationship, whether for status, wealth, lust, revenge, guilt, keeping a family together, proving one loyalty or worth, or just having the image of that person in mind, but out of those reasons how can one know who will stay with them forever through the tough times? Bai Yan was able to find that person who would give up everything for her.

Gosh, I'm not sure if we are even reading the same novel or may interpret things differently.

ML have not been having s*x with his ex-gf every day after the wedding. He did see his ex, but the last time they had s*x was the day before his wedding. For the rest of his first marriage he didn't have s*x with anyone. ML is not the best in the beginning because of his entanglements with his ex, but after meeting Bai Yan, he changed despite his conflicting feelings of wanting revenge and hoping she would feel the same humilation and pain he endured as a child between his parents. Of course, this is no excuse for his poor behavior and treatment.

For him, his ex was purely lust. But with Bai Yan, he was first drawn to her out of curiosity. When he realized how different she is from her mother and other women, it became possession and dominance. When he finally married her, he fear of losing her and even loving her. His contradicting feelings are what is frustrating until he finally surrenders to love and willingly let her go knowing how much pain he caused her.

I like the FL is so far. With the burden and all of difficulties circumtances, she face it with logic, cool-head, full of dignity.

I hope there will be HE for our FL which no ML inside it. And she find a better man than the tr*shy-scum ML

  1. This novel seriously broke my view. I'm shaken by these 2 reviewers below me who gave this crappy novel a 5-star rating because this novel is the tr*sh of the tr*sh FL worked as a nurse and met ML at a gathering, and somehow she got manipulated into the marriage (she kept rejecting his courting, but the dude couldn't take the rejection and started showing up frequently).
  1. On the day they got married, a girl came to FL to return the FL wedding ring because it was in her room. She told FL that ML spent the night with her a day before the wedding and they had s*x four times. I'm not saying the girl is innocent because later it turned out she was a crazy b*tch, but it's true, and even ML didn't deny it. They both have s*x every day until 4 months later, even after FL and ML get married
  2. FL knew all along, but she plays dumb and keeps playing naive girl and acts as if it didn't affect her when it did. And in fact, FL and ML had never been intimate except for a few hug and kisses. Because ML was too busy having s*x with his girlfriend, they even slept in a separate room. Later on, he started to feel guilty, but at the same time, he deluded himself. He won't stop seeing that girl because he keeps saying that girl can ruin him when, in fact, that girl is from a poor family, and ML can ruin her in a sec if he wants. And every time that girl tried to play victim, like attempt su*cide, and do anything that made her deserve the fake lotus title, ML started melting and kept having her around him, and at the same time, ML told himself that it was true love between him and FL, which was the actual f*ck. How is it true love if you have been having s*x with another girl every day? And yes, FL and ML will divorce later on, just to get remarried, and FL will accept his apology. This novel shouldn't be put under the tragedy tag. It's about a cheating affair, about unloyal men, and about a scummy husband. Please fix the tag, and Boii didn't deserve to get any redemption.

If you're ok with a female lead who wouldn't immediately crush her partner's balls for even insinuating cheating, then this might be for you. If you like scummy irredeemable ML's, this could be for you.

If you like wishing the FL would just move on with her life and find someone to give her a partner who values her and cherishes her, the entire time you're reading, but end up with that wish unfulfilled in the end, then this is definitely for you.

It's interesting that both the low raters for this novel believe that the male lead cheated on the female lead throughout their marriage. If one really carefully reads the novel, one will know that this is not true.

The male lead initially has an ex-lover. She follows him to the new city and they continue a physical relationship, but after the male lead meets the female lead and gets serious with her, he doesn't sleep around with anyone until the slip-up before the wedding day.

After the marriage, though he still communicates with his ex-lover, they never had s*x again. The thought and implication that he cheated after the marriage was only made by other characters in the novel, but the male lead and ex-lover never got physical except for the day before the wedding. The ex-lover would try to provoke the female lead by saying that she spent time together with the male lead, and sure they did, but it was never physical - it was more discussion about giving her luxury gifts so that she wouldn't bother him again and to quit with the su*cide tactics.

Being with the ex-lover for the male lead was never really love for him, it was a physical attraction leading to lust.

She didn't know the true reason for the infidelity. Her only reasoning was that he had a clingy ex-lover/golddigger. Since that is her thought, she puts divorce on the back burner and tries to figure out what his true intentions of marrying her are.

When other characters encourage her to consider divorce. She looks at the overall big picture and reads the other person's intention in making that suggestion. Her response to them shows her intelligence in perceiving the possible outcomes to the divorce and aftereffects of both of their reputations. A good partner does not only think of themselves but also of how their actions and views of their partner can also affect how other people perceive them. How one person talks about another person shows a lot about who that person is.

Bai Yan is a pretty smart woman. When one is in a marriage with a cheating partner, one cannot be impulsive and reactive. That is the behavior of a crazy jealous b*tch. No man would want to stay with any woman like this and they will use that reason to justify their cheating. Bai Yan's tactic is to be as non-reactive as possible to the point of being indifferent. Men are interesting creatures. The more you pester them, chase them, or react how they believe you would, they lose interest. You are too predictable to them and there is no excitement or challenge and yet they become frustrated with your presence. Bai Yan understands this because she grew up with a promiscuous mother. Her indifference towards him not only stirred up his curiosity and confusion but it made him realize the behavior he displayed and his treatment of her was cruel and uncalled for. It made him appreciate her more for her maturity in handling such trivial matters. Men like women who are not troublesome, yet they want one who is mysterious and fun to be around. That's why Bai Yan successfully hooked him in with her nonchalant and playful attitude that he eventually broke down when the happiness she displayed disappeared and that perhaps she never truly loved him.

The despicable characters in the novel are actually not the male lead or ex-lover. Surprisingly, no one actually pointed them out or talked about them in the review. They are actually the main reason for the whole issue between the male lead and the female lead.

These two characters are truly despicable, they are the ones who cause all the heartaches to not only their loved ones but also affect the lives of their children. A total of 3 families were ruined because of their selfish decision to cheat. Of course, both of the leads' mothers are equally despicable. But hey, there's a saying, women are generally not crazy, their craziness is caused by toxic men. And when parents have unhealthy relationships, it all affects the children in one way or another.

The only innocent and lovable character in the novel is

He is pretty much the ideal partner who love the female lead the most and why the title is called paper rose. Unfortunately, their love story cannot go any further than what it already is.

As for the female lead other suitors. They are all equal in terms of status and financial standing as the male lead. However, one is obsessed with the idea of her being the perfect woman and thinking he knows what is best for her... While the other one, enjoys the challenge and would come up with all sorts of way to get her. They have both good and bad qualities, but one falls short after knowing her family background and the other doesn't give her a sense of security. And I think that is why Bai Yan made her choice the way she did.

As for the female lead betraying her best friend? This is also not true.

The female lead actually took it really hard after finding out that she indirectly caused the ex-lover to ruin her best friend's relationship just to get revenge on her. She hardly forgave that cheater (the best friend's boyfriend). She mocked the cheaters when she saw them together and after he found out his mistake and lost her best friend, the female lead just felt sorry for him - knowing that he well deserved his ending.

Liu Jing and her boyfriend's situation is a typical relationship regarding cheaters and childhood sweethearts.

Boyfriend feels bored by being with the same woman for the longest time - no excitement, no challenge. These guys are very susceptible to cheating because they will constantly think about "what ifs" and if a beautiful girl suddenly shows a little interest, they fall head over heels. As a woman, being like Liu Jing can be easily taken advantage of. She is a very naive, affectionate, and caring woman. Guess what? A guy used to tell me that they can find those women everywhere. So if there is nothing unique or memorable about you, why should they pursue you? What is there to gain when the next woman they date will have the same traits - but be prettier, richer, smarter, fitter, or more charming?

Even her suitors were so impressed by his dedication that they themselves questioned whether they would have done the same for her.

Omg! I'm such disgusted with my masochist personality 🤮 Even knowing by the summary of the novel and by the review of the user "41f4nh4ru" that male lead was a cheater scumbag, I still decided to read the novel! 🤬

If regret could kill, I would have die a thousand deaths... so yeah, I'm being a hypocrite by reading the novel knowing how shitty it is and giving a bad rate lowering the overall rating... but you know what? I don't care 😒 because this main couple really infuriated and disgusted... more>> me...

That the male lead was a shitty scumbag wasn't a surprise, but to know that female lead was also a doormat that betrays her friends was a unpleasant discovery...

Female lead, Bai Yan, had a best friend, Liu Jing, that loved someone for 14 years!

But male lead, Kang Jian, brought a mistress that not only messed up female lead's life, but also messed up the life of female lead's best friend... the mistress seduced the love of female lead's best friend, destroying that beautiful love... and what female lead did in the end? She forgave the cheater, even after him ruining indirectly the love of Liu Jing, her best friend... Wasn't female lead a bit*h and horrible friend? Wasn't she ashamed to face her best friend in the eyes?

The worst of everything is how doormat female lead was, even after the divorce, she still kept treating male lead politely... she had some light arguments, but didn't have any rapantes of anger that cut all the interactions with the cheater... Nope! She still let male lead approach her and in the end easily forgave him... Omg! At least let the male lead deeply regret until his d*ck falls off... 🤬🤮💩

What's wrong with these writers? Why easily give redemption and forgiveness for those scumbags cheaters? Why female lead didn't try to find a decent guy and let male lead regret for the rest of his life?

I really don't get the point of these novels... was the author trying to convey that love forgives everything? That love can change for better any kind of tr*shy person?

Don't get me wrong, I really believe in redemption... a person that unintentionally harm someone else and regret and try to atone his wrongdoings really deserves forgiveness and redemption...

But cheating your lover, is never doing unintentionally... the person cheating is well aware of what they are doing especially when it happens for years and more than one time...

The male lead loved someone else, and still decided to marry female lead and after the marriage still kept cheating? Does that scumbag deserves redemption? How someone can get aroused and have s*x with someone else, knowing that there is someone innocent waiting for you at home? And about the female lead, even if you are a virg*n Mary, and forgive and pity the cheater, how can you still romantically love the cheater again? Only a person that lacks personality can do that in my opinion...

I hardly make reviews, but the misconception people has for this novel is quite baffling.

This story is about a woman who has a dream to have a family and be happy. However, despite her careful calculations, she was fooled into entering a marriage that she thought would give her the family she wanted but was only a revenge plot involving something she did not cause.

However, instead of being disheartened, she tried her best to do what she can to salvage her happiness without going beyond her moral compass and principles.

The... more>> MC is one of the most realistically empowering women in I have read in fiction. Her empowerment as a woman does not stem from cheats or unreasonable talents, but from being able to navigate herself based on her situation, background, and the time period and culture she was born in. This story deserves 5 stars just for her complex and inspirational character.

So don't let other people giving poor ratings to this story detract you from reading it! <<less
