Fifty years ago, Dragon City transmigrated to the Other World. Alone in the world, they lifted the banner of Earth’s civilization and fought against the terrifying forces of the Other World.

And in the end, Dragon City was destroyed.

Then, Meng Chao was reborn after Dragon City was destroyed, and he returned to the time fifty years after Dragon City transmigrated to the Other World. But he was not alone, he returned with a system named Kindling, who told him that he can become stronger if he contributed to society.

So Meng Chao swore that he would become stronger. In the beginning, he only wanted to make small contributions to the society by teaching them technology, martial arts, and skills from the future, and in the end, everything snowballed from there, and he found that… Earthlings were really insane.

Yup it's what TDG tried to be and more. This is different from the usual Xianxia stuff. At it's core, it's about spreading the message about the value and potential of humans. The storytelling is woven with many social issues and interactions, and characters who live, breathe, have aspirations, motivations, and goals and aren't flat caricatures solely existing to be beaten up nor are they purely black or white in morality. With lots of world-building, philosophy, power system creativeness, the exciting action-packed scenes, along with a decent and relatable protagonist... more>> who will keep on developing throughout the story. A Xianxia, which stands out from the rest, in a way other chinese literature like Reverend Insanity and Transcending the Nine Heavens give me food for thought. This is easier and simpler to digest than my examples (I guess it is fits right into the shonen genre) and features a lot of touching stories, epic scenes and heroic moments of justice and goodness. Don't expect perfection though and it does incorporate flaws and limitedness in actions and viewpoint of the characters

If romance moves for everyone except for MC, I will have gripes with that - and the duality of his personality feels like it intentional on part of the author. That it is a deliberately awkward way of showing the gradual assimilation of the future self which influences the innocent, naive, immature youth the original MC is, causing the conflicts and contradictions in his actions and thoughts. His personality at least has some strong beliefs and he has conviction in himself. Let's hope it develops in the future, both himself and his romance.

And wow, is pe*ophilia really rampant among the usual novels? I gotta say.... I'm speechless. <<less

I wish I could recommend this novel more given the fact that I really loved the author's other work Forty Millenniums of Cultivation (like seriously go read that novel right now, it gets utterly amazing somewhere around the third book if you can get through the slog that is book one and a kind of messy book two).

Unfortunately something just goes wrong with this one around the end of the Dragon's Lair arc. He just kind falls into a pattern of writing which is really repetitive without being insightful.... more>> The first few hundred chapters are really exciting and interesting and explore a lot of the same themes he talks about in Forty K. And there are a lot of colorful characters and humor that keep the story cheerful.

But then that kind of just stops. Like totally. And he starts harping on scenery details and uninteresting daily routines. Forty K was really great at either having Li Yao doing something really exciting like battling or refining or exploring the themes at all times (one of the flaws with the author's writing style is that he has a tendency to go on soliloquies; but they're often really interesting thoughts so he kind of gets away with it) so there wasn't really a dull moment. But reading this series after around chapter 700 or so it feels like he's writing for time and there's just a lot of "Meng Chao did X off screen" like you're reading Coiling Dragon or something.

I also really don't like the way the romance is in this one is handled (presumably? I'm not even sure it qualifies) although it's a comparatively minor gripe. I had my issues with how he wrote Li Yao and Ding Lingdang, but

Spoiler

Meng Chao and Lu Siya are kind of just a really terrible couple; neither is interested in each other from a s*xual perspective and the author pulls out a random excuse that Meng Chao is only h**ny for alien girls (wtf). Lu Siya is also just kind of the same completely selfish bastard she is we meet her, zero character development. Compare with, say, Long Yangjun, and I can't help but find her wanting as a character.

Just in generally disappointing. <<less

I am actually surprised dat d author of forty millunium of cultivation wrote this, it seems like he has totally regressed & not in a good way sadly.... This novel is extremely slow with booring repetitions of unnecessary details, that quite frankly a chore to read. And this is from someone who actually like slow novels... Only a few lines are usually useful in a whole chapter.. That's how bad it is

One of the best post-apocalypsis/transmigration/second chance novels out there, with a transhumanism subtheme.

Giant plus is that MC is not OP in the slightest, as his cheat is extremely limited, logical and not very reliable.

My only complaint so far is that everyone seems to echo exactly the same thoughts - on distribution of resources, class warfare in a cultivation world, unemployment, etc. - Whereas you'd expect at least some people to have a different outlook on it, which means that some obvious logical loopholes are not covered (i.e. That level... more>> 9 superhumans should have no interest in level 1 cultivation resources, so the differences between have and have nots should not grow as wide as the author says they did). <<less

f*ck. This sh*t was fire at the start, but no cap ong it frfr fell off at the point where I’m reading.

Ok, enough bs. The novel started off really strongly, which is why it got translated ig. However, things begin to take a turn once he gets to the first major battlefield. He just kills monsters and buffs up. There are no relationship developments with anybody in particular, and his character has definitely been f*cked up by the author where I’m at.

Spoiler

In the crystal mine expedition, he suddenly becomes a stuttering greenhorn in the mines when talking to Lin Chuan when the latter discusses his flawed ideology about society. The MC was meant to be a battle-hardened soldier from the impressions I got, with a hint of mischievousness from his youthful age. However, now, he has lost his battle-hardened experience and is simply a youthful teenager. The author really botched this sh*t bad.

[collapse]

Another thing I would say is the sheer amount of filler. Sometimes, I could skip 3 chapters and still know what’s going on. Because a lot of chapters are either just a single part of a fight, or a discussion by the author on a situation in the novel. There is so much filler, and that has mainly propelled it to it’s current chapter count.

There are some nationalistic elements, but fortunately it doesn’t show it by degrading other nations.

To compare this to a novel I would give a rating of 4 stars, Unrivaled Medicine God, this novel is very similar. A strong start, but eventually devolving into the same cliche and weak story. Unrivaled Medicine God had a powerful start with it’s first and second world. This novel has powerful world building as well. However, they both begin to devolve, although UMG devolved much slower, and I derived far more enjoyment from that novel than this one. Unrivaled Medicine God’s MC however does not essentially have a split personality disorder, like the one in this novel. I will restate it. The author seriously botched the MC’s personality here with how inconsistent it is.

Then, relationship aspects. MC here has no romantic relationships up to this point, with a slight tease of a possibility with several girls, though knowing the genres and tags on this, with the Chinese origin, there’s likely a shitty romance, or none at all. UMG somewhat succeeds in it’s romantic subplot, with giving me the feeling of satisfaction from our MC gaining a human connection and relationship. However, in UMG, because of it’s sheer length, some characters faded into obscurity and were never mentioned again for hundreds of chapters despite being MC’s disciple. I think that may begin to happen again in this novel, due to it’s sheer length.

Final thoughts:

A low quality novel that started out with a good concept and strong world, but was ruined by author’s terrible character consistency for the MC and long tangents about things that provide no real entertainment aspect. No romance at this point, slight nationalism. Could have definitely been better, but since I’m hearing it was made by author of 40k, and how I disliked that novel as well, I’m starting to understand a trend. <<less

I like his cheat, his cheat gives him a reason to 'do' good so the author can do any cliche and unnecessary problem that the MC will not ignore. But the dialogue is too much when fighting. The MC will explain before fighting while fighting and after fighting.

I can get it because he can get points if he changes the person for the better or just make him/her stronger. Also, he is easily swayed by his peers considering he's from the future. While he only gets bits by bits of... more>> memories he should not be swayed considering his strong 'will'.

I think he should rely more on his cheat or my other identity to teach other techniques. It will be faster to upgrade his technique, especially since he does have a reach and connection early on thanks to his deepweeb 'master'. I know becoming stronger is a thing but his cheat is more like making other stronger, right? Becoming teacher with his 'master' knowledge is also a plus since he is super talkative

The stronger the civilization, the stronger he is. <<less

Very addictive, but you'll feel it suddenly become boring.

Around c265 "Out of control spirit pet" you get a mystery/detective plot, but with tons of filler.

Spoiler

We know he needs to autopsy the dead spirit pets, but even getting to that part was 7 chapters of pointless dialogue that could have been two paragraphs. The subsequent 20 chapters have me questioning if I should continue reading.

Overall worth trying.

The MC's logic is too s*upid. Villains logic makes much more sense compared to the MC. He talks a lot while fighting without making any sense or logic.

The plot keeps on repeating. The MC discovers something >>> investigates it>>>> comes up with wrong conclusion>>> another accident happen>>> suddenly remembers the past and to solve problem>>>> long conversation with the villain >>> winning thru miracle or accident.

This is a waste of time. Too many words and so little things happening. Like 500 chapters and only 2-3 yrs passed by.

The MC is shameless and he is not shameless in a good way either. It feels like a chore reading this novel.

Read 170 chapters and it feels like I have read 170 filler chapters. I feel like you don't even have to read the chapters as nothing really happens in any chapter. There is sometimes one line that moves the story forward in each chapter. As long as you read the title of a chapter you can pretty much skip the whole chapter and will not loose much. Not a... more>> sign of a good novel I would say. <<less

Novel starts good and goes downhill so fast that it is hard to believe the author of FMOC wrote this. Dialogues which can be finished in one chapter are stretched for 5-10 chapters. The promoting of new cultivation style arc is the worst. Same dialogue over and over with different people with nothing new to add and little to show for what exactly the ultimate style can do besides laying traps, doing some petty tricks, enable people to peep on girls without being caught on cctv, and kill normal person... more>> that any decent student without superpowers can kill.

Also, for a reincarnated MC, he sure is naïve to think humans won't kill each other in wild because they are fighting monsters. He acts shocked when he finds out humans attack each other and the organizations monitoring superhumans don't announce it to normal people. It makes no sense for MC to have this highschool mentality. He turns into a complete idiot. It seems like author doesn't even seem to know what he is writing anymore.

Massive disappointment from the author of one of my favorite novel. <<less
