An Ning is a poor law student at A University. He’s nice, hardworking and has a huge sense of justice. His time is spent on studying and working to provide for himself.

Qin Weihang is a handsome law student who is blunt and closed-off. He rarely attends classes and doesn’t put effort in his studies. Most of his time is spent outside of school doing the one thing he loves—rock climbing.

Two people with different personalities became roommates at the start of the school year.

This is a slow journey of a blossoming relationship between the top student and the school’s grass of the Faculty of Law.

[Edit 6/20/21] Giving a more thorough review since I reached the half-way point in the novel~

This novel is really cute and fluffy. There's no face-slapping, big twists, or huge drama (just the typical school problems).

... more>> It's a slow paced, slife-of-life story. Not much goes on, and it's heavily focused on the MC and ML's lives and their interactions with each other.

The ML takes time to warm up to the MC. I personally liked that the most about this story. Their relationship is not rushed at all for a novel with 65 chapters.

Also, as the story progresses, you'll see that both characters have more depth to them then what I wrote in the summary. They aren't just a nice MC and cold ML, but they have their flaws. The MC has his fears, and can come off as weak at times,

You'll also find that the ML can be reckless (a bit hot-headed) and childish at times. After all, they're still 18, so they aren't completely mature.

So, don't expect any lovey-dovey scenes, nor dog food being thrown in our face. However, there are a few cute and awkward moments.

Something I thought that was interesting is that the ML has a hobby of rock-climbing.

One of the downside of this novel is that there isn't much plot. As I mentioned in the summary, it's the journey of their relationship. So, for some of you, this might be a bit bland and boring. Also, it talks about both of their situation at home, but the author doesn't divulge too deep into it (I wish they did). Just enough to get a gist of it. The novel is too short to dive deep into it and resolve the problems with their family. But the pieces of info you gather about their background really connects with how their environment shaped who they are today.

If you're looking for something gripping and interesting, then this is definitely not for you. However, if you like lighthearted stories without much plot, then I recommend reading this.

The only dissatisfying part is that there are no extras to feed us dog food!!!!!!!

But wow it's a pretty good story of their journey from strangers to couple. I also like how there are obviously unpleasant events that happened to the characters but the author didn't go out of their way to resolve these events satisfyingly. It made things even closer to real life. I mean, how many faceslapping and dramatic comebacks actually happen in real life? Majority of us just have swallow down our grievances and get over it.... more>> And it was a bit novel seeing the characters go through that. But I also think that was the point of the novel: both characters found security in each other and learned to rely on other people again. <<less

You know, it's pretty decent if only the ML isn't too idealized. Imagine reading a whole chapter about how beautiful the ML does rock climbing. Idk if it's the author emphasizing how perfect the ML is or it's just the MC simps too much on the ML.

Not much of the plot. Not special. But also not bad.

But I do get tired of how this story describes MC's handsomeness and height and cool and perfect bla bla bla. It's way too much and repetitive.

4.5/5 omg this is so gooood! I really love how the author arranges her words to describe an ning's feelings towards qin weihang, it's almost magical whenever I read those parts! Sadly, I gave this a 4.5 because it's really really slow burn and they only got together in the last chapter... no dog food to eat hahaha, but I really enjoy the times when they were together, simple, nothing too gushy, but just so nice to read. Disclaimer though, for those that dislikes ML's to be childish, I feel ML qin weihang is like a kid, his mentality, his actions towards an ning especially at the start, is of an child, emotionally undeveloped, and we still see this towards 3/4 of the way in. He doesn't know how to deal with his emotions nor does he even know what those are, though, to me, it brings his character much more depth, instead of just his perfect xiao cao (school grass aka popular guy in campus) image, he has this side to him, which I can say, kinda like gap moe?

Really a slice of life, not as bad as the other reviews make it sound (of course, different people have different eyes and see things differently). Just try it if you like and switch over if you don't. Honestly, although I've seen better, I've also seen way worse.

This novel is cute and all and the translation quality is great. There is a natural progression in their relationship and it's a slow burn romance. However, one thing that kind of disrupted the flow was that the author keeps describing the ML's looks and how handsome/breathtaking and tall he is which gets tiring after awhile. But overall, a cute short novel.

This story is about how our school grass and top student met each other, liked each other and finally got together~ 🥰

It’s simple, cute and makes you wish for more but very enjoyable and relaxing!

And the rock climbing topic is super new (for me, to see in a novel)

The translation was well done.

However, I agree with most of the other reviews. It’s a snooze fest and extremely repetitive. With the minimum number of chapters, I was expecting them to mutually accept the others feelings at least by the 50th chapter, yet I’m on the 60th and it’s still dragging on.

I do understand that’s it’s Shounen Ai and not Yaoi, but I’ve read my fair share of Shounen Ai and they weren’t nearly as bait-y. At most, the characters shared a kiss and held hands, while going through another... more>> couple chapters happily, but it feels like this doesn’t even get that far.

There were so many places that could have been an interesting plot point or storyline but it feels like author touched on it and then decided at the last minute not to— Peeping tom, Parent-child relationships, teacher-student relationships, hell even the “poor student with a brand new phone” could have added more interesting storyline.

Slice of life doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be stagnant and boring. Even the rock climbing didn’t go as in depth as I thought it would. Ultimately, this story was enough to get me through a couple days of work life, but even still I found myself trying to decide if it was worth it to finish these last 5 chapters. <<less

A very nice light novel!

No angst! This novel is very heartwarming.💗 Nice and cute!

Just your average cold, one word, super rich, super handsome ML and a Very poor cute MC.

... more>> About MC and ML and how they become friends and slowly fall in love. Basically that's about it. You can see how they both fall for each other which makes the story so lovely.

Love ML. Though, I'm still waiting for his apology to MC when he misunderstood MC and yelled at him lol!!. I love how this is a slow burn with a lot of fluffyness. ML's confession at the end is very creative and omg so cute!!🥰🥰

I actually wanted to rate it 3.5.

There are pros and cons in the novel.

I love how their relationship develop but the writing feels a bit bland. A bit change with writing technique might make it sound more interesting.

Anyways I think this novel is a really chill and relaxing one (more slice of life?). Good to read inbetween those thrilling novels.

If I could, I would give this a 4.5, but since that isn’t possible, I’ll go with a 5. The novel itself, as other users say, isn’t exactly heavy plot wise, quite the contrary. It gives you the feeling of sitting on a lazy Sunday under the sunset sky, it's quite cute and a very quick read with nothing much happening on the story itself. If you prefer plot-inclined novels instead of relationship-inclined ones, I would recommend skipping Lemon Lightning. With this being said, I'll review some major points of... more>> the novel:

Characters:

  • An Ning (MC) : I overall liked his character and his sort of naïve personality (more so considering he’s about 18), but this also sometimes turned him too much into a ‘white lotus’ throughout the novel making him feel too unrealistic/idealistic for an actual person. If you don’t mind this, he’s a likable main character.
  • Qin Weihang (ML) : He was actually my favorite character. I loved the fact that he sometimes came out as childish and immature despite his image of being a ‘bad boy’ or ‘school grass’. I also loved how he broke away from the ‘cold and no feelings’ vibes of other ML's, with the story showing that he’s actually just a very reserved person that grew up alone making him much more realistic and likable as a character.
Relationships:

  • MC-ML: Since it's a slow burn, I believe that the relationship between them does develop quite realistically (even more so considering how they are still very young and new to the whole ‘adult’ life). Also, the way they have misunderstandings and resolve them to their own accord instead of asking did feel like something that’s likely to happen to people inexperienced in relationships.
  • Friends: Although their relationships with their friends are quite wholesome, It did feel like there were a lot of moments where they were there only for the sake of the MC and ML spending time with each other. Other than this, it’s quite refreshing seeing actual good and healthy friendship groups in a novel.
  • Their families: This might frustrate some readers, but

    I liked how the author left their family issues unresolved. Usually irl, as some other user said, things like this aren’t exactly solved fairly or nicely, so it’s realistic in that sense that they have to let it go and get past it. What I didn’t like about it, it’s that I felt like the author barely ‘dipped her toes’ on their problems and traumas but wasn’t too keen on exploring how it could affect them deeply

Writing style: I have to agree with other reviews that when it comes to the writing it does feel a bit too bland, but considering the type of novel, it doesn't really interfere too much with the pace/style of the story itself. My only complaint is that once the MC falls for the ML the author spends quite a few chapters describing his handsomeness and his similarities with a black panther making it feel very repetitive.

Overall~

I feel this is a cute concept and a nice read if you like soft and fluffy novels without the angst. You just have to keep in mind that it’s a quick ‘coming of age’ sort of romance without anything too interesting happening other than them developing feelings. So if you do like this premise, definitely read Lemon Lightning! <<less

I enjoyed this novel, it’s a slow burn, slice of life novel. Nothing exciting happens, and it kind of lags in some parts but it gave me the feeling of a quiet, lazy day spent reading that I really enjoyed.

The author keep mentioning about ML’s looks....I know it’s because the story is written as MC’s POV but still....

also the way MC was treated during the misunderstanding, can’t they just ask him? Why does it have to be like that? Even the friends didn’t question him directly? They just leave MC like that.

anyways.... at some point I thought the author wrote this novel just to show of ML’s beauty lmao

this, this really was a very slow burn romance (it was even slower than the manhwa/manhua, Green Apple Paradise >o<), but I'm glad I was able to make it till the end - the multiple scenes of rock climbing and all those terms were a bit tiring, tho I get that it was important, which allowed for the MC and ML to interact more = feelings blossoming

Above was my main impression of the novel, oops, but I also felt that it indeed was very soft and wholesome

The relationship between them... more>> is super sweet, they share things with each other, and have many 'first' times (experience-wise!!!) - ML is indeed something who shines brightly and gives new experiences to others, same to the MC; they really complement each other, which is super cute!

Therefore, if you want something heartwarming or cute and fluffy (while not minding slow burns), this is a great choice! <<less
