Sako Machika is perfect and without flaws. She’s at the top of the student year with her excellent grades and has a cute face that makes everybody look twice. Excelling at her club, skilled at housework and chores, she’s the target of every boy’s admiration.

“I…like you.”

Wait, Sako-san confessed to me?! But…I’m just a nobody, we’re not a good match for each other! Yet out of nowhere—

“It’s such a botched haircut, right?”

“You were looking at my thighs the entire time.”

She would suddenly cut her long and beautiful hair, shortening her skirt, showing an imperfect appearance while relentlessly approaching me…

“As long as I’m not perfect—I have a chance, right?”

It’s all an attempt to make us seem like a better match?!

After reading a lot of long works, reading a short story like this makes me think of a lot of shortcomings: supporting characters are unexplored, relationship feels like it's speedrun, and there's not much growth

But when I consider that this is short a lot of those negatives disappear. It's ok for supporting characters to be left unexplored, they're supporting characters after all, there's no need to have a 40 page long lore about their struggles. I don't care about that, there's a reason we have "main characters" and "supporting characters".... more>> With such short length, focusing on the characters that matter are more important

It's OK that relationship gets speedrun. What matters is that they feel right. Doesn't have to be realistic, just feel right. This one feels sorta right, although mostly kinda odd on the matter of pacing. Interactions started as day by day, then it immediately skipped a lot of days and you get a lot of exposition

There is no big, high tension drama here. It's a just little sprinkle of sugar that doesn't feel like mass produced saccharine. It's not a cake, it's just a can of soda. Not as sweet, not as much, but still good and sweet nonetheless <<less

For a debut novel, this is surprisingly not bad. The first few chapters are a bit miserable to read but once the train starts running, everything just launches away. No unnecessary dramas, all side characters are only there for the 2 main characters’ growth.

Pretty good read for those without anything else to do I guess. Okay-ish premise and story, it's also pretty short. Probably better than the majority of the self-fulfilment JP romance story
