After her rebirth, she decided to live safely and protect herself. So she would do a job well as a wet nurse and never pursue luxurious life.
However, it never occurred to her that stern-faced Jin Wang who only did things without discussion in her last life would now take initiative.
Everyone in the world knew that Jin Wang had a concubine which was doted by him as early as he lived in original place. After entering the royal palace, she was even more prestigious and Jin Wang only doted her in imperial harem.
There were many rumors in the folk villages about the concubine. The only thing that was well known was that before she entered the royal palace she was a widow and it was said that she also had a son.
During the time Jin Wang became the emperor, he was diligent and managed the country well. He worked hard to improve his governance as a wise emperor. However, he was frequently crazy about the concubine, which made people criticize a lot.
And one of the most absurd things he did was to recognize the son the concubine had as his own kid.
To this, Jin Wang personally came out to refute the rumor:
“It’s my own son.”

1) Loved the growing dynamics of ML & FL
2) Loved the son's way of trying to protect his mum
3) There is some politics to make it interesting but not a whole ton that all you read is politics The bad things:
1) everything goes really smoothly for the FL.
2) way too much smut. 😂
3) the plot is pretty much uncomplicated. The novel is obviously more about character/relationship development rather than plot development.
I think it's exceptionally cute that at the end, the ML from the original timeline went back in time to 17, before he married and immediately ran out to find the FL so he can protect her better.
After rereading from beginning to end, my rating is now a 4 out of 5. I have so much to say about this story. The author goes into too much unnecessary detail sometimes. Some of the side characters are kind of extra, but at the same time, they do move the story along. What really increased the rating were (1) watching the evolution and journey of the main characters, (2) the addition of some new characters that could stand-alone (they have backstory, they add to the story and main characters, they elicited emotions), and (3) realizing this is a story about women and men in ancient China. Someone asked the author why does the ML like the FL. Here's the gist of the answer: Love comes from the journey/experiences/memories that are shared. The first super-slow half of this story (at least 90 chapters) was about what brought the two main characters together and why they ended up in each other's worlds. It's kind of a terrible love story because they were not in love at the beginning - she didn't really have a choice and he just happened to be physically/instinctively attracted to her. I always think the instinctive attraction is too convenient of a plot device but it does actually happen in real life - if you go out into a crowd, there are people that you're naturally attracted to or that you instinctively don't want to be near. The ML/FL's relationship was physical, but eventually became more with time. It was a grueling read (again, 90 chapters), but the beginning of a relationship is not always rainbows and roses. Neither is the middle of a relationship. The second half of the story really brought all the characters to life in an ancient China setting. Aside from looking at the main characters' relationship, we also get to see other couples. To name a few, there's the power relationship with no love, there's a relationship that was born from love but ended in tragedy because of interference, there's a relationship that became love but ended in tragedy because of miscommunication, there's also the convenient relationship that became toxic. The sad thing is, in a society where women are seen as inferior to men, love is either very rare or very painful. The female lead sees this, and, like every female in that world, has to choose how she will live in such a world. Will she become calculating, become powerful, become submissive, become hardened, or just give up? I enjoyed seeing the decisions all these different characters could choose and ended up choosing. The males in this story... First of all, the male lead would not be a good boyfriend/husband in the modern era where respect is expected (in certain societies). He might be handsome, powerful, and faithful to his one wife, but he didn't respect the female lead until later on in their relationship (still domineering male but also gives her space to make some decisions). This is actually true of most of the male characters - there might be one or two exceptions who love/respect their wife from the beginning, but other than these outliers, the men in ancient China are focused more on their career. That's the expectation: men should bleed rather than cry, men should put career first, men should not fall in love pretty much. TL;DR I really like this story - I think this tells a very life-like story of what society and culture was like in ancient China, and what the women and men had to go through in a life that involved power struggles for some and societal struggles for others. I thought the author used the rebirth plot very well - for all the characters. Though still want to knock off one star for too many details (especially those clothes and jewelry - are these details really necessary??). From Original Review:
I was reluctant to start this series because so many people said the FL was s*upid, but I didn't find her s*upid in that annoying, silly-ditzy sort of way. She's not cunning smart - she's a regular, naïve, and scared 15-16 year old girl who had to find a way to survive with her newborn son in a society that believes she should die because she had a child out of wedlock (even if she was r*ped). She was reborn, but she went back by only one year - the only thing she learned from that year was what to try to avoid. She didn't even know why she died in the first place. It might have been smart for her to go nowhere near Jin Wang based on her knowledge, but how else could she earn a living for herself and her son? Due to her limited circumstances, getting involved with Jin Wang again was the only way she could think of to move forward. On the plus sides, there's some cute and funny scenes here and there. Heartwarming family or child-raising scenes aside, I like the not-so-subtle hints that a certain shadow soldier has feelings for Yuchan (lol so cute!). I also like Xiaobao's inner thoughts - usually amusing, and his character overall is one of the things I like most about this series (even though he can't really do anything lol). Jin Wang's inner thoughts are usually amusing too. Lol, he also kind of forces people to guess his thoughts instead of just saying things out loud. Funny in a way because it's annoying for the people around him, haha.
