Jiang Yao dreamt of living in a tragic story where the male lead was the current dynasty’s seventh prince and the female lead was Song Muyun, daughter of a recent criminal official accused of treason and whose family was just recently punished. Song Muyun was left wandering in the pleasure district after being harshly humiliated and taken away by the seventh prince who was rejected by her in the past. Jiang’s family became the scapegoat between the seventh prince and Song Muyun.

The seventh prince then gave Song Muyun to Jiang’s foolish younger brother to win favor. Because her brother was seen as the one breaking up the male and female leads, the male lead continually pushed away the female lead, mistreated her, and alongside her foolish brother, subjected her to humiliation. Ultimately, this led to the two overcoming countless obstacles and ending up together, resulting in a brutal punishment for her family.

Waking up in a rage, she initially doubted the significance of the dream until she repeatedly saw the seventh prince entering and asking for Song Muyun in Brothel.

I've read 20 chapters and this is underwhelming.

First, the translation is awkward for the first few chapters to the point where I thought it was direct mtl. Judging from the tl notes I'm guessing that's not the case but it desperately needed a decent english editor.

Second, the central idea feels weak. This noble lady has a dream of the future. In the dream everyone was book characters. She then goes back and forth between considering people book characters and normal people... idk it just felt lazy. Like a way to... more>> do novel isekai without novel isekai, but not feeling at all natural.

The pov MC bullies her brother like crazy and is just violent when people oppose her.

Somehow the female love interest falls in love with her abuser after all the incredibly horrible things he's done and that just feels unbelievable. This isn't a case of someone falling in love and then being abused, which happens all the time irl. This is someone having their family destroyed, father executed, constantly harshly beaten and verbally abused... and then falls in love with the one responsible? dafuq? That's not a way to make a likeable love interest.

Also the two main male characters so far are boring af. (the brother and the prince).

All in all, this feels really amateur-like. I know I'm just 20 chapters in, but this has less than 100 altogether so...

I'm disappointed. if I come back on a whim I'll see if my mind changes. <<less

Dropping this novel for two reasons

1) The relationship of the main pair feels unbalanced.

-Fan-service wise, their relationship is plenty sweet. Writing-wise, I don’t find it fulfilling. I get that FL falls in love because MC is the first to be kind to her, but other than that, what else? Looks? It feels empty. All MC is doing is “protecting” and all FL is doing is “being protected”; and I mean, thats IT for 30 chapters. Think of the meme where there’s a buff, big top holding a little, innocent bottom.... more>> That’s it. That’s them. I don’t get the substance; the reason why they’re good together besides the fact that FL got abused and MC wants to help. It would likely help if they set up more nuanced conversations than “I’m scared, MC!” and “I’ll protect you, FL!”

2) The main character’s plot armor is unbearable.

-I was already feeling off about this novel when the first chapter opened up with MC beating her brother with a whip with little to no effect other than “funny” and “fear me”.

-MC constantly does things that should get her punished or arrested with little consequence whatsoever. Especially involving her brother and some other side characters, which I cannot figure out for the life of me how she’s allowed to get away with. Spending her family’s money without permission is apparently okay, and assaulting other characters are fine too because “it’s justified”, which is certainly true but definitely not without consequences. The writing failed this character for me. It failed the whole handful of chapters I spent with it, really. It’s a shame because I really tried to like it.

If you’re looking for something sweet without much care for plot, this is for you. If you’re expecting good writing, definitely look elsewhere. Also, this is definitely not a slow-burn; romancing starts as early as single-digit chapters. <<less

It is one of my fav historical novel. It's well written, and sweet. I really like MC and FL character. MC and FL is too innocent when it come to love because they were never heard of same s*x love. They unknowingly fall for each other and doesn't even realize their love. They mistake their feeling as friendship. It's FL realize feeling first, lol later MC also too (I won't spoiler but that scene is so funny bcoz after FL realized her feeling, she trying to seduces MC. MC trying... more>> so hard to control herself because she doesn't want to turn bad beast and force FL, unknown to MC, FL want her to kiss her). Because they were too innocent for love, they read gl book and gl smut draw book to understand intimate thing. Haha MC is too shameless, after getting together, she declare her love for FL to her family and she even read many smut Yuri paint book to make FL comfortable on bed. If You want relaxes and sweet well written ancient historical novel, I highly recommend it. MC pamper on FL. MC is strong martial art and FL is elegant scholar. Their personality suitable for each other. Side character are interesting too. This novel is remind me of
The Male Lead's Backyard is on Fire

I notice translation skip some part of this novel, it look messed. I recommend you to read novel with mtl. Mtl is easy to read <<less

Great slow burn. MC is completely smitten with FL. Even FL only sees MC. They both start developing feelings for the other but because of their innocence they don't realise what they're feeling is not friendship, IT'S LOVE!

The 8th prince is actually a princess, she's just pretending to be a guy, cause you know surviving the battle for the throne. She's the only child of the empress, the other princes and princesses are children of concubines.

I'm on chapter 56 but I'm already shipping MC's cousin Ruer (she's cute and innocent) with the 8th prince (she's a girl though hehe). I don't know if they end up together but wouldn't that be nice?
