So FL is an adopted daughter of the family named Meng Yu (dream rain) and found her boyfriend/fiancé (?) entangled with her younger sister, the real daughter of the family, Meng Xue (dream snow). They two say they are true love (bah) and FL reminds Meng Xue that she's engaged to ML. Meng Xue reveals that ML was originally engaged to FL, but because Meng Xue liked him, she added in a character and changed Yu to Xue. Now that ML is blind and disabled, she returns him to FL. FL angrily refuses and leaves only to run into ML, who proposed to her. FL refuse to be the mother and daughter's chess piece, so refuse to marry him and instead look for his gay cousin to do a fake marriage even though ML also offered her a fake marriage and revenge (honestly, choosing the useless cousin over the one with real power in the family, even if he's disabled, is she sick in the head?). She goes to Civil Affairs and finds ML, learning that it was adopted mother who told him when she found FL had stolen the book. Mother then comes and threatened FL with the out of no where grandmother and FL agrees to marry, saying some contradictory BS that just burned this novel for me.

ML seems okay though. So far, it seems he might really like FL and is probably the only one sincer to her (but of course, she doesn't trust and doesn't go to adopted father, the other person who seems to care for her, for help either), but who knows, he might just be using her as a cover and another chess piece for himself.
