I Unknowingly Rejected My Favorite is a delightfully charming romantic comedy that hooked me from the very premise. The story of a devoted fan inadvertently rejecting his favorite vTuber streamer, only to later fall for her civilian identity is rife with comedic potential that the author capitalizes on brilliantly.

The pacing is spot on, allowing the romantic tension and misunderstandings to build at a satisfying pace without dragging. The characterization feels grounded and authentic, with both leads exhibiting understandable flaws and insecurities that make their emotional journeys all the more investing.... more>> Despite the fanciful vTuber backdrop, their relationship progresses in a realistic and earned fashion.

What particularly won me over was the warmth and heart imbued in the characters' interactions. The tender, vulnerable moments between the leads sharing their passions and opening up to each other brought a huge smile to my face. The novel strikes an excellent balance between lighthearted comedy and sincere emotionally resonant character beats.

My only slight critique is that I hope to see even more fleshed-out arcs and perspectives from the supporting characters. But that's a minor quibble in an otherwise stellar romance that delivers equal portions of laughs, swoons, and feel-good vibes galore. A must-read for fans of the genre looking for something refreshingly earnest and unabashedly romantic. <<less

A very well written romcom. It has also won the 'Cutest In The Universe Competition' award in novelpia which is pretty cute...

The story starts with our MC rejecting his favorite vtuber streamer without knowing her true identity.

The small misunderstandings in their relationship are very cute and comedic, (the misunderstanding about her secret identity gets resolved) ... more>>
Spoiler

pretty quickly so you don't have to worry about a full story about lovers who don't know who is who

[collapse]

Their relationship progress is perfect- not too fast and not too slow- there is a lot more than just hand-holding.

Overall, even though it's rare to see a kr romcom, 99% of the jp romcoms could take inspiration from this novel on how to write one. <<less

As a romance fanatic, it was good. It does what a romance wn should do, which is making you scream and smile every time they do somethin romantic. Summary in layman's terms: handsome man reject girl, girl sad, handsome man like this Vtuber, Vtuber don't stream that day, bro connect za dots and figure out they the same person. And that's the VERY basic premise of it.
Spoiler

Cons:

-first few chapters felt really like a self insert and wish-fulfillment instead of two character developing and falling in love with each other, which might be just me. But that feeling dissipated as the story goes on, so I was fine with it.

-Last 20 or so chapter were pretty boring for me, I found myself thinking of other things while reading, though I might've been not in the mood for reading.

-sometimes the views and the popularity felt too unreal, like Taemin (male lead) appears in a web drama for like 10 seconds and suddenly like everyone knows him, don't know, just felt a bit unreal but that might be because I don't watch dramas much.

-needs more side stories, not really a con, but I'm f*ckin sad there isn't more.

pros:

-the Vtuber side of the story felt real, like they get new models, get original songs, collab songs and collab streams, talking about meeting each irl, 3d models, etc. They had like everything in there, even made me go rewatch hologra episodes.

-they actually f*cking communicate, like what you should do in a relationship.

-no annoying second ML or FL and just no love triangles.

-they had this part where MC becomes an actor, so spoiler warning

Spoiler

Taemin becomes a actor for a bit to help Doa with her 3d concert. But they didn't make him a genius that can instantly control his emotions and remember all his lines. Bro actually f*cking fails miserably filming for a drama way above his level, so props to the author for not bs'ing this part. And Doa goes hard in this part.

[collapse]

-nothing is dragged out, misunderstandings, confession, everything was pretty well paced, it didn't go too slow or fast, except the ending, which was a bit rushed.

-MC get massive development, bud actually changes later on

-they have segs and in depth sometimes, AND they get married and have a kid.

overall pretty solid, I read it in mtl but honestly it wasn't even bad except some chapters. Wish there's more side story, like what they did after Doa/Luca graduated and interactions with the kid and just the interactions in their married life. Since the last part in the final chapter was honestly one of my favorite parts in the novel. So just read it and if you really can't handle the first 30 or so chapters then just don't read it.

So cute.

As others reviewers mentioned, this has a near perfect pacing in terms of relationship progression.

From what I've read so far, none of the interactions have broken my suspension of disbelief and both main and side characters act like normal people. This is something I highly value in a story cause it makes any kind of interaction between characters feel engaging to me.

If there is something lacking currently, its that I hope some more time is spent fleshing out ML's backstory and future goals.

There are a bunch of reviews praising it for being well paced or how Japanese romance comedy could learn from it, I can only conclude that those people did not actually read the story.

It essentially is paced and structured the exact same as a Japanese romance novel. Hell, the MC is even the perfect example of the worst kind of MC those novels tend to have sometimes.

Most are fine if a bit boring but he is one of those super pathetic ones. No clue what is supposed to be likeable... more>> about that but his whole deal is that he looks good but actually is a pathetic looser. He is the worst kind of Idol fan who both throws away all his money and is super creepy as well. <<less

This feels like a kid forcing two dolls to kiss.

The two main leads have 0 chemistry and pretty much seemingly hate each other's interactions, but they "like" each other due to incredibly shallow reasons. The gal likes the guy because he is apparently insanely hot (self-insert, lmao.), and the guy likes the gal because she's a streamer that he watches. But in their day to day actual interactions it feels like they're on each others throats and I don't mean in that in the traditional haha funny anime interaction kind... more>> of way.

Pretty terrible. <<less
