Description
Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.Roan ran away 20 years ago from his rural village in the aim of becoming a Great General. However, all he got 20 years later was just a handful of money and the lowly position of squad commander of the First Legion’s.
In the end, he became a cold corpse in the battlefield… but somehow, he came back in the past.
“Alright. This time, I won’t become a Great General but a Monarch.”
His previous life’s aim was becoming a Great General, but, he only became a spearman squad commander.
This time, his life’s aim is becoming the Monarch.
“Then I guess I’d become at least a General, right?”
Roan, who remembers 20 years of his future, now starts his unstoppable march.

- Plot twists after plot twists when novel is nearing its ending.
CONSFor the first half of the novel, it is primarily about MC becoming the monarch. Towards the 2nd half, it's about demons, dragons, devils and whatnot. The problem is not about those characters, but rather how Author rushed the 2nd half which ruined it all for me. The demons coming into the human world is only towards the end of the novel. Author could have wrote a cool arc with those new characters in mind.
- Good character relationships
- Great camaraderie
- Characters are quite fleshed-out
- Strategic battles
- Supporting characters actually play significant roles in defeating enemies and not only rely entirely on the MC (at least at the beginning to middle of the story)
- There are quite a few moral lessons you can learn from the story which at first is quite obvious or just a common moral lesson but can be easily forgotten/disregarded in daily life. Particularly, the lesson Roan gave during his lecture at the academy.
- From enemies to friends trope (not really a fan of this but some do like it)
- Strong FL (tho sadly not given enough spotlight)
- Good kingdom building (not perfect ofc but it's fairly good)
- Quite good plot twist towards the end of the story (around c290)
CONS:- Cringey romantic scenes (sometimes tho they're quite short so I guess it's ok)
- Lacking descriptives of characters
- Repetitious descriptives of objects, powers, actions, characters' personalities, etc.
- Repetitive narration of previous events/scenes that were already narrated
- Rushed ending - Author seemed to had lost motivation to continue writing the story that's why he brought out all the hidden plot points one after another then jumbled it all together in one arc. New characters, who seemed to originally have important roles, were belatedly added yet didn't even get to shine cause they were just introduced then literally forgotten.
- Narrative is more on tell than show
- Plot armor is often blatantly used to save the MC from peril on the later chapters.
- Nonstop battles from arc to arc without a break in between (this is especially evident on the later chapters which makes it repetitive & quite boring)
- Last battle with the Demon Lord was anticlimactic.
- Roan, the MC, became too OP at the end of the story
Spoiler

- At the end of the story, basically everyone even the dragons are relying on Roan to defeat all the demons.
Anyway, no matter where I searched online, there are only 334 fully translated chapters. Fortunately, I was able to find a mtl site. It's complete till c348. Though it's mtl, it's still comprehensible & not that headache-inducing.Yes, he came a god that's why he's the OP of the OP but giving too much power on 1 character, especially the MC, makes the character boring instead cause he defeats the enemies without a sweat at all. There's no struggle. There's no thrill.
So far the novel has been good, its about a soldier with giant lips (seriously MC bites his lower lips like 4 times per chapter) that dreamed to be a commander for 20 years and gets killed and wakes up when he was a fresh recruit, the setting seems to be like those medieval stories but so far they haven't mentioned adventurers or any other kind of deterrent against monsters (orcs, goblins, etc), these few episodes deserve a 5 star but idk about the future.. Lets see Review as of chapter 95:
The story is still solid but now it took a turn and seems more like kingdom building, nothing too extreme yet but he is trying to build something alike.
The characters stopped biting their lips btw now they have red light/flames in their eyes.. So now u have this bunch of cyclops from xmen wandering around.. This novel is still a 5 star
-
- Heavily focused on the feelings/thoughts of the characters at each event, which is quite refreshing.
Pros:-
- Short and concise sentences also makes it very easy to read.
Cons:The translator uses the term "ghost of the battlefield", but that really didn't sound right. Personally, II would translate it as the "devil of the battlefield"
There've already been so many reviews, I'll just point out the obvious flaws. (1) A dumbed-down version of the kingdom-building genre
Newbie concepts of warfare/tactics/stratagems/logistics. I know Koreans don't traditionally do kingdom-building genres, even the best they had was styled after gameplay-mechanics (Legendary Moonlight Sculptor). But this is REALLY BAD.
It makes it worse if you've read all the other better kingdom-building novels, such as "Release that Witch", "The Amber Sword", "Overlord", etc. (2) All friendlies/enemies are dumb
Nobody in the entire world has any concept of how to conduct a war, even experienced veterans.
Nobody knows how to stand in formation, nobody knows how to scout, conduct intelligence activities, defend, perform guerrilla tactics, perform cartography, etc. The Kingdom doesn't even know what villages they have in their borders. And yet, somehow there's supposed to be a great Renaissance/Golden Age of development and warfare within the next 20 yrs, and so the MC cheats by using foreknowledge to gain an advantage. REALLY? Author clearly has no idea how civilizations and technological progress develops, and never read any books on military history. Even in our current age, just because people didn't have the internet 20 yrs ago doesn't mean they were idiots. These nonsensical scenarios seem to be built from very s*upid Hollywood-perspectives, like Mel Gibson's portrayal of the American Civil War ("The Patriot"), where soldiers could only stand in line formation and shoot at each other. And Mel Gibson was somehow the only genius to ambush officers and hide in the woods.
FYI that NEVER happened. Line formation was a last tactic used, people were always shooting from cover, and charges only happened from flanking positions and when they had numerical superiority. (3) Therefore... it's Shounen, and a weak one.
The low-level plot and overly simplistic content makes it feel like it was written by a teenager, for teenagers. MC reverted back to being 18 yrs old, which clearly states the author's intended audience.
I don't know why people called it seinen. It's not impressive even judged on the level of shounen. There's no character growth at all, it's just a story about a middle-aged man who got a chance to relive his life and seize opportunities he missed, a pathetic wish-fulfillment type story. It's not for anything significant like saving the human race, or any greater good.
