Outer yard disciple of the Tiansang Spirit Palace, Xu Xiaoshou, had average talent. However, after coming out of his death seclusion, he realized that everything had changed.

He had received a Passive System with many strange, miraculous passive skills:

He would become stronger with every breath.

He would become stronger when he got attacked.

He would become stronger when he got mocked…

Xu Xiaoshou was forced to shout, “Oh God, I don’t want to be like this either. Everything I did was because I was being forced to! I am so passive!”

People, how about you read more than 50 chapters before reviewing a novel? In most chinese novels, 50 chapters is just the introduction and in some it's not even the prologue. This novel starts off a bit strange but as you carry on reading the MC gets less annoying, more hilarious, and starts to grow on you. As someone said before, this isn't a serious cultivation novel (though it focuses on it more than many) but more of a comedy where you can watch the MC be shameless, defeat everyone... more>> in arguments and battles alike with strange abilities and even stranger (but oddly true) logic. I believe the MC is a genius at fathoming other's thoughts even if he acts a bit s*upid and doesn't show it a lot until later on. So read this if you're looking for something lighthearted to pass the time or have a very good laugh.

P.S: I want to give it 5 stars but I miscl**ked and it doesn't let me change it <<less

Our MC transmigrated from our modern world to a new body in a cultivation world. His cheat is a system where he earns points from people's reactions. He is very good with arguing and twisting logic but the author also made him a super idiot to make the novel funny. The author wants to be a comedian so he keeps trying to write funny things into the story, but it's only a sometimes hit and mostly misses.

The beginning of the story is quite entertaining until you reach the chapter 400's.... more>> That's when I felt that the author didn't know what else to write and started doing a exploration arc that many of us had read before and pretty much know what's going to happen.

The translation quality was decent in the beginning but it's still plagued with grammar mistakes and Chinglish at times. But it takes a major nosedive around chapter 420's where names of people, their gender, and just about everything keeps changing inside the same chapter. And if a chapter doesn't have those abnormalities, some sentences are so badly translated/edited that I had no clue what it was saying. I thought nyoi-bo studio had improved their translation quality but they reverted back to their old crappy selves after a while.

My opinion is to try out the novel and keep an open mind on the comedy. Some of you might really like it but it was only a "meh" for me. The greatest thing about this novel is the MC's system powers are rather overpowered and fun, so it will be an enjoyable read. <<less

Dumb MC. He helps those who wanna kill him. He doesn't even have any character development, which is impractical. Because everyone is someway or the other influenced by our surroundings. This dumb noob MC thinks he knows the value of life, due to which he keeps saving those people. I guess these people only realize their mistakes only when enemies succeed in killing them.

Having read 300 chapters at this point, I feel certain that the protagonist is verifiably unintelligent.

1. There is no attempt to gather bearings and understand the world, when the protagonist incarnated into a cultivation world.

2. The protagonist is incapable of learning anything and relies entirely on his system to grant him knowledge, and even then he is unable to expand on his knowledge (no passive leveling occurs).

2.5. Addendum to being incapable of learning, the protagonist never learns from their mistakes.
Spoiler

He persists in testing level-up'ed abilities inside of an inn, destroying multiple rooms, then proceeds to blow up the alchemy guild repeatedly without trying to take any precautions whatsoever. He's completely s*upid.

Short review:

I'll answer what you want to know- Is it worth it to start reading this 1000+ chapters long novel ?

Yes, it is. In fact, it can get a place in your Top 12! You can rest assured and start the read.

Longer review:

  • Unlike the 40+ chapter readers said, the MC is not dumb, at all. Not a genius either, has an above-average intelligence.
  • Literally everyone has his/her own personalities, thoughts, agendas and story. All in all, the characters are fleshed out and no one is there just to establish how awesome the MC is.
  • The plot is interesting, well-connected and fast paced. By that I don't mean that the MC will move to a bigger area every time and repeat. It's not typical.
  • Extremely funny sometimes and not the jokes (if any) - just the events.
  • Fighting scenes are fleshed out and enjoyable.
  • The typical Chinese-novel bullsh*t isn't there, at all. No "Senior Brother X is a great master of dao indeed!" Or "Purple Jade Nine Flower" random bullshit.
  • The system is not overpowered and doesn't magically give him an item that he'll need in the future to save his life. Not frustrating.
  • No romance, as of yet.
  • No sect/family/contribution points bullshit.
  • Extremely reasonable turn of events.
  • Weapons are not reason-defyingly overpowered.
A bad point maybe, judge:

  • Might be lacking in the world-level danger part. There isn't a "a calamity is coming, we must prepare for war" thing. The characters themselves run things.
  • MC staggered at the Innate-level for quite a bit of chapters which was an insufficient cultivation level at times.
Overall, I've read Reverend Insanity, Lord of the Mysteries, The Legendary Mechanic, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, Kidnapped Dragons, The Perfect Run and many others.

If they are 90-95 out of 100, then this one is 85. Not the top-tier but definitely one of the good ones.

Worth it.

Actually a really good novel (even objectively, when put against the average in the scene right now) after the first 50 to 100 chapters or so. A really slow starter in this way, not due its plot or story but more because the author was just kind of garbage at the beginning and really only straightened up later.

This book has a serious plot, nice and funny main character, rather interesting world (one which is not overly developed with descriptions, unfortunately) and even some fresh ideas that are very unique in... more>> the genre.

Unfortunately, most those good things are completely nulled by the fact that the translation is utter and complete dog f*cking shit. This is somehow a personal record for me too, it feels like there are about 5 different people translating this shit. One decent, couple utter dog shits, one semi-competent and the last just editing MTL. Pronouns are always all over the place when Mr. Decent isn't translating, the names of characters are always subject to changes when the dogshitters try, the semi-competent somehow manages to warp certain things to complete opposites (but they're so rudimentary that you'll just laugh and understand it instantly) and the MTL guy.. Well honestly I haven't felt the need to tell someone to kill themselves in a while but here we are.

So where does this leave us? I honestly can't tell. This truly is quite fun and interesting book after the first 50 or so chappies, but at the same time it's a total drag to go though. Just give it a try and see if your brain can stand the high-temperature melt? <<less

People criticise stuff too early, at the earlier chapters of this novel it was very comedy based but after it gets past that it is an amazing novel, the world building, characters, secrets, trust me once you get past all the early chaps which might be irritating it is one of the best novels I’ve read.

This is definitely a novel you shouldn't take seriously. Taking the novel at face value is a big mistake as the MC can be a bit idiotic, but if you read it as a comedy the novel is hilarious. The interactions the MC has with other characters is so convoluted it makes it funny and the way he constantly figures out ridiculous methods to work his way out of things definitely had me laughing. The author really handled the typical cliches of beauties, face-slapping and young masters in a good... more>> way. They're there, but just enough to advance the plot without being overbearing.

Don't take the novel seriously, as it will not meet your expectations that way. Look at it as a comedy and you'll definitely have a good time. <<less

The focus here seems to be on the humor mostly. So things like "why is the MC so s*upid he cultivates indoor and blows up the house?" is missing the point. Him blowing up the house/inn/guild/whatever all the time is a running gag. If you take it too seriously it seems like MC is suddenly s*upid. But it is literally a joke.

The MC has an OP cheat system. The key is that the only way to get anything out of the system is to buy it with passive points. The... more>> best way to get points is to gather a huge crowd and get strong emotions from them. This results in a lot of showboating. And usually not in a positive manner. Yea there is the occasional awe, but often he gets ridiculed or hated. Which to him means critical cultivation resource. It makes for a different read than usual, as MC does NOT go around face slapping young masters.

Overall it is a fun read. <<less

Loved it.

Legit don't listen to others coment and just give it a try.

It has it's drawbacks and plotholes BUT what attracts me the most are the interaction between the characters and the way MC thinks.... author has done a beautifull work on these 2 topics.

... more>> It is one of those rare novel where the MC has high EQ. His IQ might not be as high but his people reading skills are of the charts. And the way author has presented it is mindblowing.

Most of the others who have given bad review are those who havn't even read 100 chapters.

And for those complaining there is no character development, they read with their eyes closed.

I won't say it's the best but it is one of the better ones out there.... like wine gets better the more chapters I read.

real story starts when MC leaves his 'institute/college/clan' whatever it is called.

I like this kind of MC who is cautious but not scared. Not like those other reta*ded MC who mindlessly run into fights without even bothering to hide his power. <<less

Talk-no-jutsu the novel. Except funny.

MC is OP, there's no doubt about it. But he's always punching above his weight that it almost doesn't matter and he's barely struggling to survive. Most of the time he'll have to trick and sleeze his way through encounters because he's facing people that could literally flick him to death.

The story is okay, it's trying to be more than it actually is, but the world-building is just so lacking that it feels so small. We don't know anything outside of the peripheral vision of the... more>> characters so the story also feels as constrained and narrow.

The characters are fine as well. There's growth for some, but it also suffers from the problem most long-ass novels suffer from: amnesia. Some characters are forgotten, some plot lines just disappear. <<less

You know how most CN works have MC that punches above their weight? Like level 5 MC killing level 10 or even next realm level 3-4? I could kinda get it. Author designs level system, logically explains why MC can kill above level, and MC would be careful of that too. Like hiding that fact or killing in invasion or battles. If MC is low or high profile, there is a logical enough reasoning.

First of all, levels in this Novel aren't explained at all. 'Some stage' low level, mid level,... more>> high level and peak - nope. They are named. And author name drops the level names way before he lets you know what level they are meant to be.

Because of above point, it kinda obscures the point of how many level MC is punching above his weight. Well, we all read enough to ignore this and kinda read along.

Spoiler

Here's the s*upid thing. Slap the young and comes older, maybe its a satire or parody, but MC kills ONE guy accidentally. And as of the chapter I read, he has to kill kinda big boss. It's fine. But he kills in most promiscuous way. He literally cant do it in a more high profile way. Of course, use anti social elements (whole world is rearing to kill, don't know if they are misunderstood or plain baddies yet) in killing said big boss. And after hiding all elements, he bullshits his way through investigation. Like conman.

After bullshitting, the intelligent investigator realizes MC not telling the whole truth, so he questions use of anti social element. And now, when there is no evidence of sword in boss fight, MC wants to use it to exonerate himself. Like what even.

It's f*cking hilarious, I'll give ya that. However, it gives off huge harem vibes since the protagonist bumps into girls tryna flirt with him (directly or indirectly) left and right so that just really turns me off.

No to mention, because of his system, the MC even got turned into a masochist that gets drunk off of the pleasure when cultivating and absorbing spiritual essence, which leads to a lot of.... misunderstandings.

Anyways, overall, I would say it is a fun read if you're just here for the comedy (like me), but... more>> otherwise, I'd say it's a very cliché harem-type novel, despite there being no romance so far. <<less

This series has promise. The MC gets a cheat that lets him roll for skills and spend skill points to level his skills up. Unfortunately, the way he farms "passive points" quickly gets old because he only gets 1 passive point per reaction he gets / per hit he takes, and only if he's close enough. He ends up having to spend ages farming reactions from crowds or beatings from his opponents. IMO the story would be a lot more interesting if he was able to get a bunch of... more>> points from each person in one go depending on the strength of their reaction, which would let the story skip a lot of tedious "grinding". Buuut still, I haven't gotten too far and the story hasn't gotten bad yet, so I'd say give it a go and see whether you like it.

I'd rate the first few chapters as "very interesting" and the stuff afterwards (up to Ch 18, which is where I'm at as of this review) as "alright". <<less

This is actually a pretty nice novel with good comedy. Guess what drags it down and is the true reason for the abysmal score? Yeah, the translation.

The first 100 chapters were good but then you started to notice that it got worse and worse. After a while, it started going between freaking unreadable and decent, but it never went back to anything above decent again. It was a pain to read most of it because the translation was ridiculously subpar. To the point where, when it was worst, things would... more>> be a chaotic mess of crap grammar and weird translation choices, even worse than machine translation. Most of the time it wasn't bad to that extent, but still had so many issues with wording, flow and mixing up he/she, various names and sometimes mistranslating them, many abilities have questionable translations as well, despite being translated decently before they somehow changed and then changed back. It's as if there are 6 translators and editors working on this and they all just put in as much effort as they care to at the time. They ruined this novel a lot. It appears this novel was shifted between various members of their team, some of who were newbies and some who just said "screw it, let's just copy paste machine translation".

It's reluctantly readable with a fair bit of effort. Around chapter 800 where the chapters get turned into 3-4 pieces each (before that, the chapters were really long each, after that they ended split into many pieces so 850 or something until 1700 would be just around 200-250 chapters of the ones before that), then the translation became much more consistent. Still not awesome but good enough to read with some enjoyment and less frustration.

This novel also has some other flaws, like taking a very, very long time to level up despite a lot seemingly happening. There are also a lot of explanations and "scheming". So much talk about "chess masters" and the MC always feels underpowered because he ends up facing the top players very quickly despite being so weak, around chapter 1700 he breaks through to a stage where he can hopefully hold his own a bit more.

But enough of the bad points. I really like the protagonist's personality, he's a fun guy and his actions are hilarious. What carries this story is the comedy and a little bit of the story. He's very likable and what makes it fun is how he keeps on "winning" against all his overpowered adversaries by wit, luck and special powers. Despite being a "Chess pawn", he often surprised the "chess players". By the way, be ready for the author trying to sound profound by repeatedly referring to the group of top cultivators as "chess players" and the rest as "chess pawns", it gets a bit tiring after a while to be honest. The MC has some serious guts as well while also knowing his place and what he can and can't do.

His system was most present early on but it feels like it phased out a lot later on, like the author felt that it wasn't that useful anymore. He keeps on gaining power through it, but it's used less and less until the point where you barely notice it until it's time for huge power ups that he gets every realm and sometime inside said realm as well.

Really, I found the comedy quite good. The MC is always fun to follow, sadly the perspective often shifts to side characters, but what can you do, the author wants to make the story appear profound with all the scheming "behind the scenes". At least it fleshes out various characters, it's not too bad.

For people who like comedy and can ignore the flaws above, especially the translation quality, this is a great timewaster. I give it a very strong 4/5 by pretending that the translation issue wasn't present. If we factor in the translation, I'd have to say it's perhaps a 2.5/5 novel most of the time. I don't mean that by novelupdates typical standards but a fair evaluation where 2.5/5 is readable. I guess 3.5/5 would be the score by novelupdates standards and 5/5 for the novel itself. But seriously, be ready for tr*sh translation after a while, chaotically jumping back and forth with a few good and a few bad chapters interchangably. <<less

It's pretty good. Funny at sometimes, packed with a ton of action scenes, interesting characters and a whacky MC.

MC is s*upid by no means nor is he an ominscient god. He is the calculating type and becomes cold too if the situation calls for it.

Shame the first 60 or so chapters spend too much time with unimportant things instead of jumping straight into the story.

Honestly One of the worse novels I ever Read.

Starting story was Excellent and level up was Fast but then What the hell he stuck for the same level for like more than 200 or 300 chapters.

I would have loved it more if cultivation was not part of the story rather simple story as is.

Alright, give this a try, read 20 chapters and see if it is any good, and my friends... so far really good. The author has a great sense of humor, made me laugh almost every chapter.
So my Fellow Daoists, if like me, you are in search of material to fuel your addiction... cough* cough* I mean cultivation, then, this might not be the peerless content you have been hoping for, but it will definitely lighten your mood and maybe relieve you of your heart demons.
