Felt like I was playing mount and blade again, the author clearly did their research, the world, and the characters, feel real.

Not hyper realistic to the point where you might as well just read an history book, but realistic just enough to not make you feel like you are reading about some shoddily made world based on a JRPG. It's great, pretty rare to find fantasy novels with such historical authencity.

The power levels are also very grounded and reasonable, armor isn't paper (except for the protagonist), and a sword is... more>> often times more practical than magic for killing enemies.

The protagonist is a pretty chill dude who others tend to misunderstand as a paragon of virtue for acting like a normal person due to other nobles having atrocious behavior, it's kinda of funny.

Overall it's a good novel and you can feel the effort put into it with how the author displays the world, a great medieval fantasy novel that's actually medieval. <<less

Recommended for experienced readers:

-Very little use of clichès

-MC is very strong but strength isn't always the answer.

-Flow of events is reasonable and pacing is neither too fast nor too slow.

-No use of systems or plot armor.

Good novel, good translation.

I really enjoyed the novel at the beginning as it was unique and the protagonist very interesting. The world building is fantastic and the world itself is very vast.

The reason I give 3.7:stars is solely because the author is lazy. The superhuman strenght of the protagonist has no background and everyone just accepts the fact that a man is capable of feats of strenght even 12 men wouldn't be able to do.

I can live with that but what really annoys me is the usual genius trait. The characters fly to... more>> the protagonist because "he's different from the other nobles, he's so mature and he's so brave when he cuts down hundreds of men".

a feature I really like is the parallels you can draw to real history. For example a large part of the chapter 100+ seems to play in southern italy and you can compare it with the norman conquest of southern italy.

Despite the aforementioned negative aspects I would encourage everyone to read it as it is different and qualitatively better than many other novels. Judge for yourselves. <<less

The usual smart handsome with no effort MC. Fun for a bit before becoming boring. If you're definition of effort equates to "he then train for 10 days and mastered all there is to master" then you'll enjoy this

An interesting premise that for now is being well-developed. The world building and the personalities of the characters are great. The beginning can let think the story to be something already seen but after the first chapters is obvious that the clichés are few and far between. For now four stars, only because the translation isn't perfect.

Overview on some parts of the novel

  • Alot of criticism is directed to the main character being overpowered, however compared to other main characters on this site (action novels of course ⚔️) he isn’t the worst. His power allows him alot of opportunities but he still just one piece of the puzzle in the wars he goes into. He is still vulnerable to arrows in the part I’m in to give you an idea on his power.
  • The novel has a very cool take on magic and power in general. For instance a wizard in the story had to basically sit and stare at a river for his whole childhood just to learn how to do some boring magic (in my opinion). Knights on the other hand (major powerhouses) take a crap ton of money 💰 to train so it explains their scarcity.
  • I also like how the story’s inspiration from medieval history 🏰

Overall (5/5)

Awesome!

Story (5/5)

Just like many reviews had said. The story is like a game of bannerlord with some magic modded into it. The story is set in a kind of alternate feudal world, with some magic and fantasy elements added to it. But the main focus of the story is in adventuring and doing feudal-age things (knightly duel, feasts, honour, oath, ransom, etc.). I think this is one of the novel where the author did very well with keeping to the main theme. The magic in this novel... more>> is not omnipotent and not overpowered. Each magic has its own strange conditions and costs. The power level of other people except the protagonist seems logical at a glance, as expected of a feudal age conflict. The feudal age logic, superstitions and misunderstandings create many hilarious moments in this novel. I think the comedic undertone tag is well-deserved. I finished reading through the novels within one month, very interesting story indeed.

Characters (5/5)

I don't feel irritated with any of the characters. The characters personality and thoughts are well-written. I like many characters in this novel.
Spoiler

I like the elf king and I felt bad when the protagonist tricked the elf king. Lol

Translation (3.5/5)

I read awebstories translations. I think this is likely an AI translation. There are usual AI translated mistakes like names, genders, places, and synonyms. Even now I still don't know the whether some characters are male or female, or even what race they are (human, elf, dwarf etc.). The quality dropped a bit further near the end, but the novel is still mostly understandable even with all these flaws. <<less

MC is

  1. stronger than everyone
  2. smarter than everyone
  3. lucky
What that means is that there's never any tension or anxiety, you know he's going to win anyway, no matter how many s*upid risks he takes. The story doesn't even try to fool you into thinking that there's a chance things will go bad.

There's a bit of comedy in that characters will misunderstand the MC's actions as pious and honorable, but he's actually selfish and shameless.

The translation is not very good. The text is dry and that annoying thing where characters will change genders between... more>> paragraphs (or even in the same paragraph) happens all the time.

The main positive here is that the author clearly did some research, so the worldbuilding feels a lot more authentic to what a medieval world is supposed to be, compared to other stories.

It's also enjoyable to see him solve problems with his intelligence, rather than fighting all the time. <<less
