The first time Yan Zhaoge crossed worlds, he landed in a martial warrior civilization that was at the peak of prosperity. He ended up in the book storage building of the the Divine Palace, which collected and preserved the classics of the entire world from all fields of knowledge. However, a world class calamity struck soon after and even the Divine Palace was destroyed.

Yan Zhaoge’s soul once again crossed over, but this time he arrived in the same world, except countless years have passed.

With his brain full of rare books and classics from the era of peak prosperity, Yan Zhaoge’s second crossing over to the present era was like a gamer who was used to playing hell mode suddenly finding himself playing the game on easy.

That was just way too awesome.

But before that, he needs to fix a certain problem.

“I’m not a main character? In fact, I’m actually the main character’s love rival and the antagonistic Mr. Perfect senior martial brother? This script is wrong!”

One of the few novels I still read and enjoy even after so many chapters. The storyline progress quit nicely. Every once in a while a chapter or two is a boring but it does progress the story so not much to compliant about. The action is quite nice to when it happens. MC personality is one of the main reason I like it so much. His character isn't inconsistent nor is he overly arrogant or extremely nice. To put it some he's nice if you don't poke the beast... more>> but willing to kill if you do poke the beast.

Update: So the story is still interesting but having read up to 800, it's starting to become a chore to read certain chapter because it basically just an informational chapter and some of the information isn't even important and or just describing something that can be forgotten the next chapter. If the story was to cuts back on this useless information dump chapter I would still give it a 5 but for now it's reduce to a 4 because of the chore like reading or certain chapters. <<less

The novel had a really good premise and had a unique idea of criticizing the usual Chinese wuxia/xianxia/xuanhuan tropes, seriously one of the best reads I had picked up in a while. But as time went on and our beloved MC had finally found his own identity instead of just being a stepping stone for other "heaven-chosen mc's" story then shifts into a typical chinese xuanhuan novel really sad about this.

Things to consider about the novel:

  • MC is a reincarnator, and possess knowledge that only he knows.
  • Some really good and likeable side-characters suddenly dying whether good or bad I really cant tell.
  • So far MC has gotten everything to work for him, he has not a single time experienced any issues or difficulties that really he hasn't experienced any setbacks (I guess thats typical for chinese novels though?)
  • MC has really great attachments to the current body he reincarnated in, dude has really put a lot of effort into helping his sect improve and survive the "numerous" dangers out there. (Not so obvious but it is hinted how much danger his sect is facing after he learns a bit of clues from the enemies he kills and other hints as well.

Great story, humorous, cunning and calculative character.
Personally I like the story development where characters in it has their own glow/flare instead of just an extra, tis almost as good as World of cultivation (in side character development aspect). As for the main character himself is awesome in the way he uses his all encompassing knowledge in almost every field, and still practice like madman
(Just like emperor Li Qiye (ED)). Overall its a must read for xianxia lovers.

One of the best novels I've read.

The MC is OP, but you can still sense some danger and tension. He's solved lots of issues, but there's always someone more powerful. He's had some narrow scrapes, but hasn't actually personally suffered losses.

The characters are well written and engaging. The girls aren't annoying, and the side characters aren't just flunkies waiting for goodies from the MC.

Spoiler

His steed is a (temporarily glowing blue) panda.

Spoiler

The MC isn't the only character that got transported. It's different though.

The plot is interesting and isn't easy to predict. The MC's side doesn't always win for free. The antagonists are beaten, but they still linger and are dangerous. <<less

Plot is interesting. The speed which things happen is quicker than other xianxia. There are a lot of characters. So far there is not a lot of redundancy which is a very good thing. I would say this a much better written than many pieces in which the authors don't seem to have any common sense and emotional intelligent.

I still can't understand how memories can move bodies and still retain the previous owner's memories. You only have one brain. But this is still an interesting read. I just hope the... more>> author doesn't make the main character so invincible that he is able see through everyone's plans. <<less

I've fallen out of love with HSSB. It feels to me like a novel that lost what it's original goal was and devolved into a generic Xianxia novel.

Originally there were two main routes that I felt the novel could go:

Satirical introspective look at the genre where as the author leads the MC through several situations facing generic OP Protagonist as he proceeds to make a mockery of the whole situation. Or devolve in a more serious story similar to Histories Number One Founder and we watch as the most amazing... more>> Senior Brother leads his younger generation along despite pressures from the clan and outside factors. The scale of this story of course being much smaller and less grandeur than the typical Chinese novel.

Unfortunately what we got was something pretty similar to trash. Random overpowered techniques from big shot clans and arrogant young masters while our protagonist pulls bullsh*t OP tecniqes that get introduced the chapter they are used, but we are told he has been practicing them on the side so it is all right. And his techniques are ancient master pieces so ofc he'll win despite obvious power deficiencies. In the end don't read this novel. It is a let down of massive proportions. <<less

Most reviewers have already said all that needs saying about this novel.

I only want to supplement one thing: the real problem with this novel, in my opinion, isn't even the repetitive and generic chapters, but the word padding in the chapters themselves. Overly long descriptions and drawn out and repetitive action makes it a chore to read this. If you're going to drag a story, at the very least make the individual chapters not mandatory to skim.

The story is very interesting and refreshing.... at first. Our protagonist is resourceful and cunning and uses both his intelligent and strength to defeat other could-have-been-protagonists and evil villains. He knows when to retreat and seek reinforcement for opponents that are stronger than him. However, as the story progresses, it becomes more and more like your typical Xianxia novels in which the MC can simply crush his opponents (regardless of level gap) to death because of his cheat code/super power/plot armor. While it is a bit sad for the story... more>> to turn out like this, it is still entertaining and interesting enough to keep on reading. <<less

Everyones criticizing how the author derailed from the original premise of him vs the various cliche MC templates e.g MC that has a second chance to relive his life/ country bumpkin that has a fortuitous encounter/ Old Expert thats reborn into a useless noble etc. But you forget that those MC cliche templates are already the most popular and common, like, how long do you expect the story to keep continuing like that, he already did a ridiculously good job integrating those MC cliches seamlessly into the story without making... more>> it too parody like and making the readers unable to take things seriously, , it was the correct decision to use that momentum and continue trying to make the story abit more serious and diverge from the original premise because the ideas going down that road are bound to run dry. Wether or not he actually did a good job steering away from all that a establishing a more serious and traditional wuxia style, that remains to be seen.

TBH my only big complaint about this novel is actually shocking for once, I felt that this stroy would have actually been more entertaining for me with a harem tag, like sya what you want but it just felt empty and seems like a waste because the MC is this personification of perfection, martial genius, handsome looks, monstrous background, big wig father etc. he goes around acheiving all the magnificent feats but I feel like it was a bit bland without much romanic interaction until like 600 chapters in, and even then, it wasnt handled properly, like, its almost as if they both just woke up one day and were like, wow what are these feeling, oh, I see, I love him/her, well... cool, moving on. Like that was literally it. We get such a badass heavens chosen male MC but I still wanted to see the arrogant mistress getting roflstomped by MC, or the cold and aloof, detached from worldly matters senior sister getting soft for the MC after he shows his prowess or SOMETHING, I jus feel like he was doing all that work all over the 3 worlds without any "reward" you feel me. <<less

I like it, but it's nothing stellar.

All the typical trope and background character ass whooping you find in other CN novels you'll find here. World building is sh*te. Side characters are next to non existent other than Ah-Hu. Story has no clear and definite direction.

Yan Zhaoge is just an over all better MC than other XianXia novels. I like him so much that I WISH he was the MC for all other novels like Tales of Demons and Gods, and Against the Gods, Desolate Era, etc.

Also, as what other people... more>> have said, the story changes from being a parody to it's own unoriginal XianXia. You can enjoy the first hundred or so chapters quite well, and if you like Yan Zhaoge enough, you can stay for the ride. <<less

The style of it is funny, clean and fluent, the MC, the supporting role and the villain have their own unique personalities, and the plot is quite dramatic.

It seems that many dislike this novel....

But it's actually a gem.

It's actually a parody. Sort like Gintama.

... more>> What I love with this novel is that, there are no brainless people. Everyone have a motive, it's not always right but you feel them. They're well design characters, they know when to advance and retreat. I like that the author remain consistent with the plot and characters. And there's none of that rape, male characters who only think with their lower half.

There were boring part in the novel, As well as excited part.

And the main character, tho verry weak at the beginning become supper OP

tho, he doesn't flaunt it or acts overly arrogant, Lin Fen mostly use his brain to deal with most thing. <<less

It's pretty nice novel and a creative plot. The best thing is the MC debends more on his schemes rather than power and gives the reader the the feeling the he has everything in his grasp. Not like other MCs when they have to risk every thing to win the battle, actually until now there hasn't been a time when the MC is badly injured or needs the help of someone els that is why I like it. Also the MC isn't the centre of attention and is the one... more>> that his clan always has to depend on him or his love interest always seeks his help, on the contrary his love interest is actuall very reliable an experienced and his father is also a dominant geniuse. The only mistake in this novel is that it's somewhat devoid of romance. <<less

Round of applause for this light novel. After some frustration with HN1F initially, I was quite attracted to the Strong to Stronger tags and synopsis of HSSB, and it did not disappoint. Recently, it's been rare for me to read over 500 chapters of a light novel, and while I won't deny having over 900 chapters translated definitely helped, HSSB also satisfied almost all of my current LN preferences.

It's been quite a whirlwind of LN reading recently. After a period of LN ennui, I took up LNs again with some... more>> BL novels, then stallion novels, and then some normal male MC cultivation novels. Like I rant in most of my reviews, YZ has basically all of the characteristics I look for in MCs: genius, clever, shameless, confident, and OP. It's nice reading about a character who actually has a relatively strong background and powerful strength instead of the trash reincarnation trope. Plus, the beginning third of the story focused on the MC being the cannon fodder type, which happily reminded me of FOD, one of my favorite novels. YZ defeating each of these "MCs" that had some hilarious stereotypical tropes was pretty hilarious and definitely reminiscent of something the author of HN1F would do. The addition of an even stronger OP dad and their amusing interactions was endearing, especially with all of those stories where the MC grows up really quickly thus leaving behind their families in the lower realms or something.

Despite YZ facing some pretty strong opponents, I was always confident that he would be able to get away basically scot-free, thus saving the tension and frustration and more thinking about how he would destroy them or escape. Now that I think back on it, I don't seem to remember any times so far where he is injured past just a minor injury or exhaustion. That's the level of OPness I love. The one thing I was pretty dissatisfied with was the almost lack of romance. YZ and FY get together in the 500s and finally kiss in the 900s, with basically no affectionate dialogue or actions between them in any of the other chapters. Please. It seems from all of the male MC novels that I've read so far, the MCs always fall into one of the two extremes: harem or almost nonexistent romance (of course, or BL). Male MC novels with a single female love interest don't seem to be very common/prominent. Comparatively, the female MC cultivation novels often have a strong OP love interest. Sigh.

While the plot is still quite engaging, the LNMTL for HSSB isn't as great as for others, so I'll probably wait to accumulate some more chapters/time before I read forward. Meanwhile I'll move on to trying some new novels. Would recommend HSSB with enthusiasm. <<less

It is good if you have started this before reading number 1 founder and/or Library of heaven's path.

But once you have discovered the two above and about to read this. Thread on lightly. Because this one feels slow and frustrating at times.

I got bored and dropped this one. Maybe in the future I will try and pick this up again. But not for now. I recommend this one because I think some will enjoy this. But it is not my kind of flavor. Like eating vanilla ice cream, you know... more>> many will like it. But it is hard for you yourself to like it. <<less

The title and the way this starts out is misleading. You think its just going to be a straight parody with our main character constantly getting stuck in hi-jinks having to deal with egotistical other main characters.

It is more along the lines of a typical MC who just happens to also be reincarnated from the real world and having read all these stories before like many of us he can spot the other Main Character type characters. He is the super MC not only having his own cheat like everyone... more>> else, but also being extremely genre savvy so he spots and stomps all over the other MCs.

I enjoy it because I enjoy these types of stories, with the extra bit of encountering other MCs being a nice addition. <<less

I liked History's #1 founder so I expected it to follow the same.

It was enjoyable the first thirty or so chapters as the title of the story did apply appropriately. Though how it deals with things in quite a bloody way makes it quite disturbing to me.

Spoiler

I thought he'd win them over with his profound knowledge and charisma, but instead the characters are cannon fodder to fuel the plot.
Its hard to know which characters are spin-offed from which novel unless you're a dedicated reader on qidan.

[collapse]

You'd have potentials being persuaded to follow the MC in History's#1Founder, but in this novel, the MC is literally cannon fodder for all other characters but avoids such a fateful disaster through wit and charisma along OP cheats.
//

I kept going till that point as I was glad there was little to no romance. I hate love-driven plots, and if anything like History's#1, hopefully you don't have to expect romance till way later in the novel. <<less
