The first time Yan Zhaoge crossed worlds, he landed in a martial warrior civilization that was at the peak of prosperity. He ended up in the book storage building of the the Divine Palace, which collected and preserved the classics of the entire world from all fields of knowledge. However, a world class calamity struck soon after and even the Divine Palace was destroyed.

Yan Zhaoge’s soul once again crossed over, but this time he arrived in the same world, except countless years have passed.

With his brain full of rare books and classics from the era of peak prosperity, Yan Zhaoge’s second crossing over to the present era was like a gamer who was used to playing hell mode suddenly finding himself playing the game on easy.

That was just way too awesome.

But before that, he needs to fix a certain problem.

“I’m not a main character? In fact, I’m actually the main character’s love rival and the antagonistic Mr. Perfect senior martial brother? This script is wrong!”

While not a lot of chapters have been posted as of now. I find the premise to be really interesting and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in a different type of xuanhuan novel (or rather a novel from a different point of view)

My thanks to the translator for picking up this light novel and I will eagerly wait for more translated chapters

Imagine if the protagonists of Martial World, Sovereign of the Three Realms and Tales of Gods and Demons were all part of the same story, and our protagonist was actualy the Arrogant Young Master, interesting isnt it? well it is for the first.. 50 to 100 chapters, you see although the novel really makes fun of the 3 major cliche protagonists that exists in the genre, the Lucky Relique finder with unyelding personality, or the Soul of an Expert that takes over the Body of a Trash cultivator, and The... more>> Expert that Goes back in time of when he was a young teenager but holding all his knowledge with him, its an interesting concept because no matter how many xianxias you read.. the odds of the protagonist being one of those 3 is like.. 99.9%, its so high, that even the protagonist of this very story is also one of the three, he is also a reincarnator.. but wait.. he reincarnated TWICE! HA! Very unexpected eh? totally fresh and original!

To the Story now, well the first thing you will notice is that nothing.. NOTHING.. can shock this protagonist, everything is always under his meticulous calculations, every possible variable is already on his mind with every possible counter-measure to prevent a negative outcome, it would be actually pretty smart if we could see his actual line of thought so we could follow it instead of everything happening and in the end he "this was my plan all along!" but who would do that right? that would require quite a clever storytelling skill, to describe how he is thinking, comes to a point that every time he says "Theres X amount of Outcomes, the most probable is that..... will happen" and then he describe the other two, the odds of he actualy being right with his first guess is 100%, even if other characters come with "what ifs.." he will just dismiss them bcuz the protagonist have the supreme knowledge of all ages, he is never wrong.. NEVER WRONG!.. other things that I find interesting is how the protagonist power ups are always convenient, sometimes he cultivates for like.. 3 years without powering up, the he suddenly power up for no reason, then the next time he cultivates he takes one year, being a higher level, and manage to power up easily, its like.. the PLOT requires him to power up at that speed, is not that he works for it, the same as his father, his father was at a low nooby cultivation level for 40+ years.. then suddenly.. in the next 20~30 years he power up SO DAMN FAST that is amazing! lets put this in number to explain lets say that the power levels goes from 1 to 50, for 40 years his father stay in the rank 25, he is an elder of a Clan, and he is doing a lot of things and he is the youngest rank 25 in history, alright, but then.. suddenly.. the plot requires him to power up so what happens? he reach level 35 in 5 years.. for someone that took 40 f**king years to get level 25, to level up that much in such a short amount of time.. why didnt he do before?! bcuz it was not convenient to the plot! :D HA!.. and from there he power level so hard that reminds me of people using those Instant Max Level of WoW, he is reaches max level so damn fast, as fast as his son, bcuz he is also a genious, and doesnt matter how strong the protagonist is, his genious father will ALWAYS.. be one rank above him... I can go on and on and on about every bad thing that this novel have, like.. everything feels rushed, theres barely any world building.. just like "They arrived at the Plane X.. " and thats it.. no world building, just the crew going straight to the point, people dont sleep, people dont eat, people dont sociolize, people are workaholics in this novel.. the protagonist is always working, he is never out to learn new places or to enjoy his life a bit, you know.. like any young man would.. no.. he is just like a cultivation machine that never rests.. Other thing, he is good at everything he does, he is a Mary Sue 100%, making pills? He is the man! Making Weapons? He is the Man! Making Arrays/Enchantments? He is the Man! Need the Strongest Fighter ever? He is the Man! he is just too good, idk why he is even on a journey.. what the hell is his motivation? I see none, at earlier chapters we get this HUGE thing about his Mother, that disapeared when he was Young, and that sh*t is dragged for 1150 chapters, im not even kidding, its literal 1150 Chapters for him to meet his mother, and you would expect some emotion right? well if our protagonist wasnt a Machine he would've displayed some.. but he just "Mo.. ther..?" and then turns around and they start talking about business and the possible war.. I mean.. I get it, the war is upon them.. but c'mon you haven't seen that woman sinse you were 3 years old, and now you are nearly 60! What this Novel Lacks? Lacks Motivation, Lacks Worldbuilding, Lacks Emotions, Lacks Pace, Lacks Decent Storytelling, Lacks Decent Writing.. What this Novel have? It has a really cool and unique Concept, that is thrown away 100 chapters later and just becomes this generic mary sue xianxia story that is Non-stop Action.. Want something Similar but Still a bit unique? go read Womanizing Mage, Warlock of the Magus World and Great Demon King, the first if you like an Echi Harem, the third if you like Romantic Harem with some Echi moments, and the second if you dont want any of that sh*t.. bcuz Leylin doesnt can't feel love! <<less

Great novel, has some slow parts that feel bad but I suggest you continue reading past it, it's not as repetitive as some people suggest. If you stop 100 chapters in, you won't have a proper opinion about the novel, so if you do reach 100 chapters in, continue. By the time Yan Zhaoge (the MC) reaches the world beyond worlds, the novel is quite different from how it started and it keeps you immersed in reading until you catch up with the translator.

The author loves to waste words on descriptions of attacks and such (as in, multiple paragraphs for a single attack) so be prepared to skim through, but I guess this is already expected for cultivation novels. The exposition can also get boring at times but I feel it can be worth it some of the time.

The novel starts strong with a MC in the shoes of a would be villain and there's other characters with MC-like characteristics and there's a "Deathmatch between MCs" kinda feeling which is quite interesting, it... more>> also subverts a few tropes, but don't expect the author to be super original (he's not). Later on the novel gets a little dull, all the author does is raise the stakes endlessly and it stops feeling like threats matter and I just continue reading because of anticipation of the next big thing, whether it's a fight, a power up, a interesting strategy or whatever. The *BIG PROBLEM* is how the author never makes the pay off satisfying, it's almost always underwhelming. Spoiler-free example:
-author: If MC defeats that guy he will be able to get the PRIME HEAVENLY DIVINE CLEAR JADE DRAGON PEERLESS FIRE AND ICE WORLD KILLER SWORD
-me: HECK YEAH GET THAT SWORD!
[MC gets the sword and it turns out it's just a pretty good sword and MC can't use it's world killing powers because his cultivation isn't high enough] EDIT: on volume 9 author mentions someone called Supreme Lord of Divine Sky Jade Clear True King Longevity Emperor Prime Heaven Ruler Sage, I'm not joking but I wish I was.

Worst of all is when I'm all excited for a fight that the author spent pretty much a whole chapter building up hype for, but author keeps interrupting the fight and my excitement with stupid expositions, explanations and descriptions.

It also has other problems common in cultivation stories like:
1 The fights feel like MMORPG combat, where everyone is pretty much just standing around using skills.
2 The fights start feeling too distant from reality and the human perspective. When every move seems able to destroy the world, world-destroying moves stop feeling special.
3 The cultivation feels extremely generic and unintelligent.
4 MC's enemies are always conveniently at his level.
There's more but I don't care enough to try to remember them, I might keep reading it or drop it.

OH RIGHT!
IT PISSES ME OFF how there's always a new enemy coming up endlessly, the author never gives MC the time to just cultivate and relax (he does, just not enough) and it gives me some goddamn anxiety... <<less

I really do like this novel, but I can't get over the constant hyperbolic descriptions that come with it. One example of this happening that I just randomly pulled out from a chapter would be:

Spoiler

"Exerting power with his foot, half of the land in the entire valley instantly broke apart as it concaved inward with a single stomp!" So what? If a martial saint were to stomp it would destroy the entire world? That doesn't sound right at all. The author doesn't give that much context in terms of power scaling, which make these descriptions seem as if they are hyperboles instead of vivid descriptions on what's happening in the fight.

[collapse]

Other than this one problem the novel seems to be going great in terms of story telling. <<less

Writing and translation is well done. There is plentiful world building as well as mystery. It starts the story like how the summary describes it with Yan having to deal with these "main characters". Eventually the novelty of the beginning arcs are lost, however it becomes more of a quest to put the pieces of the metaphorical shattered puzzle together again.

The cast in this story is excellent. They aren't left forgotten and obsolete after the main character has reached a certain point (I'm sure you all know when it... more>> usually happens). Instead, in this story, they remain relevant and even if they become background at some point, there is little doubt that they will come back later.

If you ask for my personal opinion about this story, I'd have to say that even when I came back to reading it after a 5 month break (for chapters to build up) I could still clearly remember the events and characters. Unlike some other stories which are extremely generalized and I confuse the characters between stories often due to how un-unique they are, the characters in this story do a fantastic job at retaining their uniqueness throughout.

All in all, a great read. I highly recommend it. <<less

It seemed interesting and original in a way but it's a miss.

The MC isn't the destined hero, that's great. Unfortunately the "destined hero" isn't developed much and this arc conclusion is horrible. He should have been intonthe shadow of the "destined hero" and fight his way out to break his fate but the author didn't do it.

For once the MC has a vefy background. He is the young master of a powerful family in a powerful sect. He is involved in intrigues because his father is one of the candidate... more>> for the next sect master so the other faction tries to undermine him to gain power, lots of potential. Problem is, MC seems to see through all plots. With practically no clues he knows the others intentions.

In his former life MC was in a super library so now he knows powerful martial arts, alchemy, forging and formation. He is too OP and after 200 chapters I don't think he was wounded once. Each cultivation level supress the one before but MC can fight with people 2 or 3 levels above him.

I never really get into it and after 200 I just stopped because it never got better. It's too easy for MC and I can't relate to him, his personality is like an old man.

You can try reading it but if you aren't hooked quickly just stop. <<less

I like it.

It is good at what it does, which is to be a parody of the regular CN novels. Despite some too-long moments, it's pretty good, and the action seems to move at a rather rapid pace. Another thing I like is that the MC starts off strong, and he's not looked down on, but rather, respected. Funnily enough, the Protagonists are the villains, while the MC (Arrogant Young Master) is a good guy (kind of). Another thing I like, is that at some point in time (around CH... more>> 500-600, the MC no longer needs a background. He IS the background. I won't spoil it, but he is rather strong.

Now, as for the romance - I saw someone complain that there is no romance yet, and the MC is more interested in training. Well, the romance starts in the later half of 500's, with foreshadowing in the later half, while the romance starts a bit before CH 600. Later on it develops further.

Anyway, there WAS a tag "Slow romance".

Also, as someone complained that MC is too OP and skilled and whatnot - in the World Above Worlds, there are some gaps he can't jump, and there were some hints at future problems coming from his techniques. <<less

This could be so much better but I find myself falling asleep and have to stop reading it. The reason being is that a few chapters can go by with just talking, thinking, looking... Some novels are fun with a lot of dialogue but the dialogues here are not interesting to me. I say try this novel out because different people enjoy different things, so you might like it.

Nice pacing. (Kinda) overpowering MC. MC is self-aware of himself. Not a harem. Little romance, mostly action. Most of all like how confident the MC can be with power to back it up.

A very good and well planed story at first, but now, it's totally rushed and bland. MC is now as arrogance as everyone else. The story is so messy, too many side events and side characters. No more low-key.

MC level up like hell, gains all the weapon and resource as much as he wants, no more scheming/cunning tactic. You want to kill me? Err too bad. I will bare handily slap you to dead. The most over used leap frog slapping when every enemy underestimate you will be repeatedly use... more>> from now on and forever. MC will be totally prepare for every situation with a simple mention of past library door guard life. He's now proficient in every cultivation methods and have time to cultivate them all when everyone else require at lest 100 years. He's now so OP no different from any other cultivation novel.

I have been forcing myself to read the last 100 chapters and might not be able to continue on at this rate. <<less

Disappointing. In the beginning of the story as other people already said, we were presented with a good parody of the wuxia genre meta, the main character get illogical power-ups, luck from heavens and etc... and for the first twenty chapters we get to enjoy him as the typical villain cannon fodder for the main character trying to go against his destiny.

But after that, This story fails to continue on his premise as a parody and just goes typical wuxia with the same mindless villains and the power ups that... more>> don't mean anything. Power ups that don't mean anything?

Look at this guy.. only at the middle stage of some random realm, I am at the late stage so I will totally easily kill him. but wait, the main character consistenly defeats people that are stronger than him in terms of "cultivation stages" yet the world is still surpised every goddamn time.

Two starts, Because it fails to even be the story that is premises to be. (Not recommended unless) <<less

Yes. Finally something different. Although the novel is still in the beginning stage I am excited to read something that doesn't follow the typical xianxia plot. I sincerly hope this novel can continue to maintain this feature.

I can’t, in good conscience, give this novel more than 3 stars, it starts out pretty good but by chapter 290 I’ve had it put on hold 3 or 4 times to pick up after some months and multiple times considered dropping it entirely.

The novel seems to live off constantly throwing things at the MC and/or his sect. Their allies are completely and utterly useless and their enemies have no brains with seemingly only the goal of destroying them even at the cost of their own lives.

The only actions their... more>> allies ever takes is because of the MC and any large plans their enemies make just so happens to take place right up the MC’s ass.

I actually like the story and the MC but with this stale world that revolves around the MC I can’t ever think of the novel as anything but average.

If the author had brought some life to the novel with the other major and minor powers actually doing something without the MC’s direct interference then I’d easily give it 4.5 or even 5 stars. <<less

great start, lots of potential but ultimately fails to deliver. Great faction building, good humour at the beginning but after the first arc, (100 chapters) its all the same pattern over and over again with also sucks in world building. Just read first 100 chapters and drop it.

It's a completely average novel. The strongest senior brother schtick went on til around c100 or so, afterwards it became somewhat generic. The combat itself is somewhat disappointing... basically you have the MC superimposing X amount of the skills / merit laws he's learned up to that point... almost literally a roll call and just facerolling people with it. No real variation most of the time. Personally, I had more fun reading about the MC's OP dad than the actual MC.

That said tho, it was still kinda ok as a... more>> binge read, since its failures are somewhat common to the genre: you get somewhat inured to it after a while if you suspend your expectation for something above the ordinary..... until this:

Spoiler

After a while, the writing doesn't even focus on the MC and his activities... it becomes an exploration of characters that are part of Taoism and Buddhism lore. You get FLOODED with names, their titles, their positions, etc. Very few of them have a significant role in the story tho. It's obvious that it expects the reader to be familiar with those characters, as well as characters in famous literary works like Journey to the West (Sun Wukong aka Monkey King), and Investiture of the Gods.

While other novels have played around with their own interpretation / rewrite of events from those works / lore, none of them are such a name-drop fest as HSSB is. If you're not familiar with the literature, you'll be lost or have a much lower interest in the storyline.

[collapse]

Not sure if the gripe in the spoiler merits giving this novel a 2 rating... personally I have it at 2.5. <<less

If u ever read HN1F then u might guess already that the plot including alot of trolls and twists. Here some of it:

  1. MC (YZ) is the antagonist in the beginning. the usual silkpant young master that steal someone gf with his authority/power. the boyfriend is the protagonist. The arc end with the protagonist met with alot of misfortunes and lost his mind, end up killed by YZ.
  2. YZ meet alot of characters that either reincarnations or have MC halo with the usual grandpa plot armor. Too bad, they meet YZ who hv a super plotarmor.
  3. some of the plot hv a similarity with HN1F since its the same author. like the panda pet...
  4. many more that u better read urself, if u like all the points above.

not recommended if u seek for novel with tensions. but still good enough to read in your spare time.
