Heads up this is more of a 4.2 stars to me, but the general score seemed too low.

I first read the webtoon, the plot was kind of new and all so I thought why not read the novel ? A week passed, almost 400 chapters passed and I did not even realize. I eat that sh1t up.

I am not too talented at writing reviews so I’ll just do a checklist of what you can expect to see if you will like it or not :

... more>> - disabled MC :

he was a genius archer aiming for the Olympics but due to an accident he cannot shoot like before anymore. The whole backstory is sadder as you go.. but that’s what makes the novel refreshing. He can do it all through games but his disability does weigh on him a lot (as it tires him and worsens symptoms overtime) and is a recurring problem for his streaming career.

- entertainment industry:

granted, not the actor/idol schema but as he’s a streamer the novel is centered around reputation, popularity, fans, stars, management, scandals making it to the top, and all that goes with it.

- realistic chats, comments and online communities :

personally the thing I like the most about this novel. The comments of his fans his every streams, how they react, how some of them have their own gag going on, the funny jokes etc. I like it even more because I always go back to read them in Korean (it’s a shame the translation misses a lot of nuances and slangs, it’s not as entertaining in English). And the communities spying ?? I gobble that up. If you’ve even been a community bug or stanned k-idols and make it your routine to search up every little reaction to your bias on multiple communities you’ll love this. MC and his manager are attention-wh0res in the most relatable way possible lmao. I support !

- handsome MC :

now what does this means? Of course you’ll see people bring up his appearance very often. But instead of it being annoying, I enjoy it. I like my MC gorgeous. And it’s mostly his female fans swooning while his male fans are jealous but anyway it’s presented in funny occasions. Ex: his fans have a meme called “the Face ID again!” for when characters show unusually high affection for him / just like a face opens up the phone, his face opens up their heart. Got the joke ? Yeah ? Next up

- OP MC :

Sang-Hyeon is just him, the archer god. Now this is something that will divide people : those who love it, those who dislike it, those who like it but can acknowledge it is a bit surrealistic sometimes. I am the last one personally, I wouldn’t read it if I didn’t like how talented he is at the bow and how he always proves himself, but yeah the games sometimes have very convenient settings (?) that make him do the unimaginable. He mostly is always winning in the end. Personally again I don’t mind that much, but it’s true if he struggled a bit more to adapt to every game it would’ve added more depth. That being said, it’s nice because people don’t suck up to him, there is always people who doubt him, speak on him, underestimate him so his overpowerness is balanced, and it’s satisfying seeing him proving them wrong. There is also a legendary gamer known to be stronger than him.

- different games and game styles :

Almond is a diverse streamer so he plays a game, gets to the top (not always the peak, he stops when he’s satisfied) and then chooses a new game to play next. Genres go from survival battles, fantasy AOS play with developed characters AI, RTS games with multi-gamers, ultra realistic apocalyptic games with story mode, etc. It’s possible you won’t like every arc. Personally even the arcs I like less, the reactions to his play are always there to make up for it.

note : the novel is mostly centered around his plays, I would say it’s a 8/2 ratio (2 being daily life beyond games)

- Stoic MC :

honestly he’s just an introverted dude. Chill and normal with people close to him, very awkward with people he’s not close with. He’s not super charismatic, in the sense sometimes you’ll think bro... say something more ?? But that’s his personality and he has some attaching quirks and qualities. Namely his headstrong, almost unperturbed sportsmanship mindset, how unashamedly confident he is in his skills (he’s a genius after all), how he cares about his people, the way he gets embarrassed easily, etc.

When he games he does get more spicy🌶️

- attaching characters :

his manager and longtime friend, his editor, the adverse team members, the Mceing presenters, etc. They have their little something which make you remember them.

I can’t really think of more to mention, so I am going back to read 🫡 <<less

Mom! I want to be Almond! Mom! I want to be Almond! Mom! I want to be Almond!

Immediately rushed to read the novel after catching up with the manhwa. I rate it 5 stars for enjoyment. I love chat in this novel haha

The MC is OP but he has a realistic setback that actually made the reading experience more enjoyable than reading a fully OP MC. I also like that they give lives to the supporting characters (manager and editor) and that they have their own goals and problems, while... more>> still being kind and supporting to the MC. I love it so far and will continue reading it!

Update: Notched down the rating to 4 cause I don't really like the Civil Empire arc so far. The MC started playing games that have more foreigners and I don't like how they portray the foreigners, Chinese people and etc. I just started the arc so maybe it will get better but so far it's starting to sound like a (insert east asian country) novel that portrays another (insert east asian country) negatively and stereotypically. I also don't like the game so far compared to the previous games he played. <<less

It's fun if you get past how he overpowers each game even on his first try. I had to skip some parts when he was in-game and look for his viewers' comments or commentaries from his tournaments, they're too funny to pass over.

It is emotionally appealing for a story with a VR setting. Every character, whether major or minor, has a unique history and growth. That's what kept me engaged in the story.

It's mostly well written, I liked it. But then there's suspension of disbelief issues. Despite being a KR novel it ran into the CN novel issue of the world being portrayed as too large, there are such an immense number of players in the game they are writing that even if it were the only video game on the planet and 40% of all people played video games actively around the whole world, that particular game's already given numbers wouldn't be possible given the world's expected population growth numbers.

This is... more>> a pet peeve of mine since long ago, but I other than that issue it's been mostly written well and it's easy to enjoy. This isn't to say it isn't unrealistic in the ways a fantasy novel is supposed to be, but they have the necessary excuses to make the writing mostly good, and the writer does write decent characters with personalities and everything.

To clarify, the writing was still good when I dropped it, I simply dropped it because they made a type of mistake which I simply can't accept in a mostly clean novel. <<less

I'm currently caught up on the translation in season 3. This is by far one of my favorite web novels so far. I noticed it's still ongoing in the original Korean, and with the overall plot I gather it'll have a few more seasons at least if it isn't abruptly canceled.

That being said, while it is a longer story, it doesn't drag. The parts of his game streams are engaging and fun. The plot regarding his disability and his path to overcome his issues is consistent and adds an element... more>> that makes you want to root for him and see what happens next.

I also enjoy the side plots of Ji-Ah and Walnut with their own personal growth. They main characters feel more 3d and don't just exist to prompt Almond up and progress his story.

I appreciate that Almonds story doesn't focus on romance, but it's not deprived of romantic hints. Just enough for now. The translation has been amazing also. Anything that is culture specific has been added to notes for clarity.

I'm not a big gamer myself, and I don't watch many streamers, but I'm not oblivious to the culture of it. Regardless, who doesn't love the idea of someone getting a second chance at heir dreams, even if that chance is an unusual path. <<less

I read the manhwa and couldnt help but to continue reading the web novel. It really 'scratches' the itch of readers who like OP characters. Some games are a bit boring for me so I skimmed through some of the parts in season 2 but overall, I enjoy the viewers reaction, some notable viewers crack me up, "Eggplant" "ShyNapoleon" one who always steal from his sibling and the other one who always give pay mission and always get bankrupt. Great characterization IMO, I hope the webtoon catches up with web... more>> novel soon. <<less

If only Kakaopage had not been stingy with their free tickets, I might've brute-forced read the whole novel already....

Anyway, this is a novel about Sang-Hyeon, an ex-professional archer who became an online game streamer after he found out that his injured hand can actually move freely in the game. He decided that, if he couldn't become a professional archer in real life, then he would become one in the online world.

An OP main character type of story. Sang-Hyeon just started playing the games yet he kept on pulling all these... more>> awesome moves. He even managed to dominate in a sport other than archery! Weren't you supposed to be an archer?! Some people might not like this novel because of this, but I suggest to keep on reading. Because the people watching his stream always left a very hilarious comment. Especially when Sang-Hyeon played a game and every woman (NPCes in games or real-life women) he met started complimenting his looks, his followers would start mock-cursing him. They were like 'you are a professional gamer already, how dare you succeed in the real world too?!' That's way too realistic ahahaha.

Will edit this review when the novel is finally complete- <<less
