The B-73 human base was attacked by a deformed species with heavy casualties. The Falcon Special Warfare Team was ordered to go to the rescue, when Lu Zexuan saw a strange teenager in the basement full of debris.

The young man was pale and thin, his beautiful black and red pupils did not react at all, and the palm-sized spirit body of a white fox was dying at his feet.

—This is a badly injured guide.

Lu Zexuan immediately took him back to the safe area for treatment.

Within a few days, a number of mysterious officials died in the security zone.

The Federal Investigation Department sent people to investigate but found out that these dead people had more or less intersected with the boy with different pupils.

It’s just that every time, when these people die, he has a perfect alibi.

——

Lu Zexuan doubted Yu Ran’s origin, in order to find out the truth, he submitted a matching application to the association and took Yu Ran with him.

Soon, this news spread in the circle: “I heard that Lu Zexuan, an S-class sentinel, took a fancy to a C-class little guide?” “That guide is only 18 years old!” “General Lu really has a unique taste.”

At the federal banquet, the newly grown guide came followed by the tall general, looking innocent, pitiful and weak. Lu Zexuan subconsciously protected him from behind him.

Until one day, the Falcon Special Combat Team was surrounded by mu*derous alien creatures, Lu Zexuan was seriously injured and on the verge of mental collapse.

Before he lost consciousness, he saw the guide beside him stretching out countless spiritual tent**les towards the beasts.

Yu Ran, who was usually simple and innocent, his gaze at that moment was decisive and sharp, his strong spiritual power made all monsters instantly surrender to his feet.

He stepped over the corpse mountain and blood sea of the beasts, calmly walked to Lu Zexuan, and stretched out his hand towards the sentinel: “Do you need me to protect you, General Lu?

Lu Zexuan: “…………”

——

No one knows that the boy with different pupils who is innocent on the surface actually has a terrifying and powerful spiritual power.

He was the first guide in history of the Federation to awaken dual spirit animals.

i cant say anything else other than read this!!!! Great story, good pace, good romance, everything is just right. I cant say much else than read this!

the story itself isn't very long, 99 chapters, or at least isnt as long as other chinese novels. The translation is pretty okay and understandable, so is the mtl. It's stretched out quite well, and I wasn't bored throughout it at all. I actually read this in one sitting. It's overall a very satisfying story, you probably won't be disappointed reading this. The side... more>> characters are cool as well, you won't be annoyed with romantic drama or non/dubcon in this story. Some of the characters were a bit mysterious, and surprised me when I found out who was behind what. It was overall very fresh for me and very enjoyable.

the MC is very cool. He isn't innocent or a wimp, he's cunning and cool. Very charming, a bit evil even but he has his reasons behind his actions. He's great at acting and quite op, not as much so that the story goes his way entirely, he knows how to restrain himself and when to let loose, not sure if other readers would like this but I do. His spirit foxes are very funny, especially in interactions with ml's eagle.

the ML is great, he has his suspicions about MC but they are dispelled over time with ploys by the MC. He's a very charming character, funny as well. Him and his eagle make for a very entertaining duo. ML is rational and his eagle is a bit dumb, their interactions alone are great, but as I said earlier even better when they involve the mc's foxes. ML both before and after figuring out that MC is acting is very funny as well.

not too many cons I can point out, maybe the end was a bit too fast, and the conflict between the MC and the villain got over too easily, some people might find more, but that really was my only note. The story deserves its high rating imo, but please give this a read and see if you like it!

This is a solidly well written novel, with great plot progression and a mystery that is slowly built up and very engaging the entire time. The protagonists are likable and multidimensional, side characters have depth and are genuinely interesting, and villains are well developed with clear (evil) motivations and strength that makes them a real threat, adding to the excitement.

The plot is so thrilling, with MC acting undercover for an organization of unclear origins and motivations, while hiding his abilities and sneaking around committing mu*der and theft. The conspiracy runs... more>> deep and the author masterfully builds the mystery with twists that feel natural and supported. Action scenes are a lot of fun to read, and I was definitely on a high reading this.

MC is so badass, and while he's definitely OP, he has so many close calls that it keeps the excitement levels up, never knowing if he might get caught in the next moment or not. His acting is always impeccable, which isn't entirely believable, but he does have a backstory that more or less explains why he is the way he is. His visible personality does change a lot over the course of the novel, but it's a very natural process.

ML is also strong, though to a slightly lesser degree. He has a unexpectedly innocent and cute side to him with how he falls for MC, and he's a very loyal and devoted lover. While he's not necessarily the most interesting and well developed character, I still really liked him for how well he treated MC.

I really enjoyed the interactions between the two protagonists, both before and after secrets were revealed. After they let their walls down, they have a very equal partnership and mutual trust in one another, and while romance isn't the central focus of this novel, it's still well done. The first few extras expand on their relationship a bit, and the extras with them as childhood friends had me grinning the entire time, it was just so cute. Romeo and Juliet type vibes haha

Though this is a guideverse, it does have some ABO elements with how there's marking and mpreg, but that's mostly just in the extras. Also while some guides do have the ability to heal, there's more a focus on guides who use their spiritual powers for offensive purposes, something I haven't seen before and really enjoyed! There's also no mecha (I removed that tag) and sentinels/guides instead use spiritual tent**les and beast companions to fight. They can also take on features of their beasts, like ML with his flying ability.

The TL is a bit rough in the first few chapters as it's vaguely edited MTL, but it does get better. Looks like it has been dropped, but MTL is readable and better than I would have expected! Recommend this one if you're looking for something super engaging and with a happy ending that takes work to achieve, but probably not if you want actual guide-verse as it really is not that. <<less

Edited to Add: OMG why did I click two stars???? I don't know how to change it! It should be like 10 stars!!!

Absolutely loved it! The story, the world-building, the pacing--A+. My favorite Sentinel/Guide novel so far.

MC is a little OP, but in a good way where you won't mind it. He's OP like Sherlock Holmes or James Bond is OP--you know it's all gonna work out but you stick around to see how it all plays out.

But the thing that made the novel amazing was the world-building. I loved... more>> the way the author expanded on the sentinel/guide mechanics. Neither is weaker than the other they're just humans but one has evolved mind powers (every guide basically has a computer for a brain) and the other evolved their body (every sentinel is more physically capable and has a knack for hands-on things). I also love that guides aren't just there for healing, most of them actually take on research jobs and there are attack guides who aren't even good at healing at all.

Just a refreshing break compared to the usual 'weak guides' trope you see from time to time.

Read it! It's a relatively short novel with great pacing and a good cast of characters! And definitely hunt down those extras--theyre worth it. <<less

Aaahhh so gooood, I love itt

I just saw the author when I finished reading and didn't realize its one of my fav authors. Definitely worth reading.

I thought it was gonna be the typical cold OP ML and side MC (if u get what I mean) but noo, the MC deserves the title of MC. The ML aint the typical ML either, the combination of him and his spirit body is really funny.

Spoiler

I mean u rarely get a story where its pointed out that the IQ of the MC is higher than the ML no?well in this story its more the IQ of the spirit body. Because in this story sentinels have the physical advantage while the guides have the mental/spiritual/memory advantage

[collapse]

I cried a few times, MC's experience, ML's, the side charas mannn it was sadd. Glad that they have their good ending.

Im glad the MC and ML have each other to lean on when they go through troubles. It was really nice that it was not love at first sight kind of story, like the first reviewer said they had their suspicions and gradually got to know each other.

Spoiler

MC is a double agent and ML will help him later on

[collapse]

Their wedding

Spoiler

very unique, with the witness of MC's close alien friend (mother figure) and her little children 🤭

[collapse]

Their children

Spoiler

in the extras. Its half mpreg lolz with only 3 months in the womb and later in a birth chamber for the next 6 months. THEY HAVE TWINSS. Their spirit bodies are one phoenix and one white nine talied fox

[collapse]

The cons:

I actually found some but I don't really remember and one of them was already mentioned by the first reviewer.

Spoiler

so its like some parts already build up momentum but in the end it was just explained like not to my expectations, like it could be more cooler or something idk how to explain it

Okay read. Plot outline is interesting but MC, Yu Ran, and ML, Lu Zexuan, characters lacked depth. The persistent questioning of MC's identity at the beginning of the novel didn't make sense. The frequent reminders of MC's unusual power, good looks, and 98% matching made me wonder if the author's releases had a minimum word count requirement.

So I'm neutral about this novel, with a slight lean towards unfavorable. I finished the main story but am skipping the extras since I stayed to uncover the villain.

Spoiler

SPOILER...

...

MC is a powerful S class guide with dual spirit bodies. He's undercover to find the mastermind of the secret organization that killed his parents.

Only the Marshal, his grandfather, knows his true identity. The secret organization doesn't trust MC yet but gives him assignments to test his loyalty and abilities. They want to control the sentinels with drugs. So they had MC get close to ML. ML is a S class sentinel.

Over time, MC trusts ML and reveals his mission. They work together to fool the secret organization, uncovering the villains. Actually, the mastermind is an alien capable of morphing into different disguises. They wanted to take down the country from within and occupy the planet.

And of course, MC and ML fall in love and have a happy ending.

One of my top reads this year! Seriously amazing story, it had me hooked the entire novel!!

I love to see a strong and smart MC, plus the ML is sweet and so caring (him and his spirit body are really funny)

The guideverse system and world building is what really pulled me in! The romance building up was the perfect cherry on top

Very recommend even to people who have never read guinevere before!

The plot that the author proposes to create initially is interesting, although at the beginning it is a little difficult to persist in reading, since the writing is not good. The biggest problem I had with this story is how the plot developed, especially at the end.

The author has no political or social knowledge, only throwing out information that makes no sense at all, or rather, she has a child's view on political issues (of a capitalist society). To make matters worse, there are many prejudices (mainly of a colonialist... more>> and supremacist nature) between the lines of the text, at times my eyes even bleed, it is really disgusting.

On the other hand, the couple has minimal interest, it is not well developed, but they make a good pair. Unfortunately, you have to have willpower to put up with the nonsense the author writes throughout the work.

Of course, this story still captured my attention. It has many beautiful and emotional moments, the way "the truth" is revealed is also well organized, with a great construction of the characters, their motivations and pasts. <<less

wow!! This is such an amazing novel!!

I want to say first, for this review, that this is a VERY plot heavy novel. Like, SUPER plot heavy. I had to take some breaks as I was reading it because I can only take so much dense plot in a single day lol.

but that doesn't mean the story is bad of course, it just depends on what kind of a story you're looking for. Personally, the attributes I'd give this novel are ACTION, INTRIGUE, and DECEPTION.

super fun! Really a roller coaster of... more>> a plot but it all adds up in a very logical way! There aren't any plot holes at all, and the author carefully lays everything out step by step.

I really love how despite the MC being very powerful, the story and plot still make it so that he has to use every bit of that power to survive, so there's never a point in the story where it seems like he is powerful just for the sake of being powerful - it all serves a purpose!

I love the slow progression of the romance, too.

Spoiler

the romance doesn't REALLY kick off until the MC tells the ML the truth, which is about midway into the story. After that, the ML gets to know the real MC and not the act he puts on, and they make slow but steady progress.

[collapse]

Spoiler

funnily enough, the only "loose end" in this story is that the MC has never told the ML he hates sweets. At least, not in the main story. I haven't read the extras yet so IDK if it happens there, but I like to imagine the ML's expression when he finds out lol.

[collapse]

despite the romance having a slow progression, everyone is so busy with the plot which just never rests that there's very few moments where you wish the romance would have more of an impact. In the first place, this isn't a story you should read if you're looking for something with a bigger emphasis on romance than plot.

the romance is still very satisfying, especially by the end!

Spoiler

MC is always so busy with the plot that he doesn't have time to think about romance or feelings but towards the end of the story, after ML confesses, he begins to think about it and doesn't spend any time on denial like "no! I can't like him!" or whatever. He is just confused since he never liked anyone before. So, when he comes to a decision, he tells ML right away. It's very refreshing compared to some other shous that always waffle back and forth between whether they like the ML or not or whether they should say something or not.

[collapse]

overall, it's a fantastic story! Highly recommend! <<less

It's a nice novel. As what others said before, the interaction of the animal manifestation & guide/sentinel is cute. There's also a lot of characters in it, varying from foe to friends.

double agent.

[collapse]
Fortunately, he found someone who will accompany him in all things, dangerous or not. I'm happy for him.

Cons for me is probably the stereotypes.
Spoiler

Example is at the main lead's wedding, it's not husband & husband but husband & wife.

Another example is; guide is just a support while sentinel is at the front line. It's seen more at the twin's situation when they exchanged identities to be a guide & sentinel. Because I thought that when Ran Ran revealed his identity, guides will not be a traditional guide anymore. They can also be at the front lines fighting side by side with their sentinel. Evidence that it can be done is Ran Ran. He's OP as hell.

[collapse]

Aside from that, I'm good. Overall, this an okay novel to me. I rounded off the 3.8 to 4 stars. <<less

I am not usually into guideverse, but this author really pulled it off. The protagonist is strong, but his strength was not enough to prevent tragedy. All he could do was survive, become stronger, and fight hard for his revenge no matter how under the table his methods might become. That combo is usually a recipe for disaster, but I have to admire how the author pulled off a spy thriller like effect while still preventing some worst outcomes.

An important aspect of this story is not just the marvelous use... more>> of red herrings, foreshadowing, and misdirection. The deviousness and unusual methods of the big bad evil organization are almost more dangerous than their strength, which they also have in excess. A strong enough antagonist properly balances out some of the edgy OPness often found in this setting. The author also reduced a lot of the dubcon elements often seen in these works. Essentially: more manipulation, more gore, more tension, more trauma, less r*pe. All without compromising the threat level of the villain.

The protagonist and humans are also not perfect and still retain some morally grey aspects expected in this setting. Mass genocide of alien planets is nothing to scoff at and almost everyone has benefited from it or been directly involved in some way. Their entire culture's way of life depends on aggressive outward expansion within this book. Yet, not everyone is evil and only a few key figures do it out of selfish reasons. This has been going on so long in their society that it is a normal thing that is not particularly questions. Why would monster killers not kill monsters? Who is the true invader is really something the author makes the reader think about, and quite effectively.

Ultimately, this story had a strong foundation and the author took a lot of advantage of the guideverse setting to present some unique motives and challenges to spice up the conflict. It was truly engaging. The romance might actually be one of the weaker aspects of the book by comparison, despite its major focus and well done character development. It's at least as strong as any other 4 star web novel here so no worries for those who are here for love~!

Now onto the bad part: this author had a tendency to "beautify" parts of the details in the later story. This type of refinement is usually a good thing, but the author failed to go back and edit previous mentions of these details. There are several minor inconsistencies I noticed while reading. Things like:

Spoiler

It's pretty relevant for the side CP missed their chance to confess before getting back together. The author had a paragraph making it clear that the Sentinel of this pair was able to persevere thanks to his unwillingness to die without sharing his feelings with his crush. Their dedicated extra gives them that missed confession. It's not a bad thing and even a happy thing, but it does change a defining aspect of that plotline which would be fine, BUT they left the discarded element within the main story.

Another is that the first mention of super S guides seems to imply that their civilization only had one such public figure. There are in fact at least four (including the protagonist who promoted in the shadows). The MC finds out the big bad must have the help of a strong guide and any of those three could potentially be an ally to the antagonist. It would have been a lot less dramatic with just one suspect! I'm very glad there is a wider suspect pool in a mystery/suspense/spy novel. If only the author had gone back to properly edit their foreshadowing!

There were others (especially in the first extra), but they were truly negligible. The story still played out very well and were not majorly impacted by said inconsistencies thanks to the author patching up potential plot holes. It's truly just an editing issue they failed at after improving their original plot.

Starts out strong... Ends alright.

The great: Guideverse without SA! Guiding in this story is not reliant on physical contact, naturally avoiding consent issues inherent in many guideverse stories.

The good: it wasn't easy to figure out who was a bad guy. The mystery was well developed.

... more>> Needs improvement: The writing seemed amateurish at times. Sometimes redundant or overly explaining simple things.

The bad: The extras. This is strictly personal taste, but I was not pleased with it being canonically mpreg. It's not for me. That aside, I also hate when stories cover the children of the characters in extras. I'm a child-hating spinster. <<less

I am so conflicted.

The plot started out great, love the characters as well. But then, it all just falls flat. Everything becomes predictable and there was no tension for me even in the moments that should have been so. It feels like you're guided by the hand as if otherwise we would not get it. It makes me think of pieces that write "he was sad" instead of writing it out in a fleshed out way that makes you feel it.

It seems to me both the translation and the writing... more>> have their issues, I cannot tell what is it most of the time though. There is always something that feels lacking. Maybe it is the writing style, but it feels underdeveloped and strongly amateurish. At some points it just feels so silly. I really wanted to like it and I love the little animals and how they interact but it does feel like more could have been done to improve the writing.

Thank you for the translation! <<less

Good novel but not a gem.

I liked the uniqueness of the MC and the plot but I felt like the relation with ML lacked some alchemy / hotness between them.

The novel is nice and the ending is also quite good. It's just that there's something missing and I'm not sure what it is. Maybe it's because I just finished reading several really good horror/mystery bl novels but I feel that there is something lacking... or maybe it's just me.

I was instantly hooked by the description (OP character who hides his powers vs powerful character who feels they need to protect them). It was everything promised and so much more.

MC is honestly such an admirable character. Because of his rank as a S+ guide he's naturally smart, but he's also extremely hard working which is because of who he is as a person. He's been through... a lot, and although his focus on the mission never wavers, he's still human deep down and has not lost his empathy or... more>> compassion. He's a good actor and is able to switch between roles instantly, while being in full control over his emotions, mental state, reactions, facial expression, etc. No one is able to see through him and if they do they've been fooled to believe they've managed to see it all to lower their guard. He starts as a very mysterious person and the way the themes "hidden identity" and "hidden powers" are explored is very interesting and satisfying to follow.

ML is drawn to MC. He can sense that something not right thanks to his S rank power, but never manages to find any proof which means either his intuition is wrong or MC is way more dangerous than he can even begin to imagine. They play pretend, MC admiring the person who saved him and ML caring about the good match he's found, while they're both trying to fool the other one. For MC it's using ML's connections and status to fulfill his mission, for ML it's lowering MC's guard to finding what he's hiding.

The romance is honestly very sweet in my opinion. It's definitely slow burn and because they focus on appearing closer than they are, everyone around them is rooting for them while they're still unsure if the other person's small advances of romantic gestures are real and genuine, while also being convinced they themselves haven't been moved at all. Neither of them has pretty much any experience in romance either so just by trying they are taking a huge step.

I really like how they didn't become fools by falling in love and each others weak points that made them feel they'd give up everything they'd ever stood for if it meant they could just be together. They both have very important duties that require the highest professionalism and they've both been completely dedicated to that lifestyle. Instead of compromising themselves, or making the other one feel like they have to change, they remain strong alone and even stronger together. MC is not someone who would let personal feelings get in the way of his goals. ML is moved by the new feeling of romance he's never experienced and although he worries about MC being exposed to danger by being on his side, he's even more thrilled to have someone to fight alongside. Neither of them have ever been able to rely on someone by feeling reassured that someone has their back, because they're both so strong they've always been at the front where it's easier to just dive into the danger and fight their way out because other people - even if they're skilled - means they also have to worry about protecting. Even though they don't say it with words, the trust or love between them, it's easy to feel through the whole novel.

They understand each other to the point that they trust the other person is doing what they think is best, and that they'll agree regardless. MC is calculating, gathers information and makes plans, while ML has the ability to mobilize and make it happen. Still, it doesn't mean that the ML is not smart, he just knows that MC is smarter and has a greater understanding of the situation and he trusts himself to trust him. I really liked that MC waited to:
Spoiler

express his feelings until after the mission was completed. ML confessed with words because he wants MC to know, if anything bad happens. He does it for himself and for MC to know, not expecting or demanding a similar response. He's the type who wants to put his feelings into words and share his love by reassuring MC. Meanwhile, MC has worked extremely hard to get where he is. His mind is constantly looking for traps by other or planing to make them himself, to be able to complete the mission he must remain unchanged in his role to be able to execute it perfectly. He's almost a tripple agent if not more, working as a dubble agent for two opposing sides, while being exposed to other parties with different interests who get dragged in. He must remember everything he's ever said, heard, and how he's acted - like a different but very detailed customized person to everyone. One misstep and his plan, his life, and possible the future of humanity is over. As a person, it's natural to be moved my ML's feeling and want to respond - but he just can't afford while the mission is still ongoing. Who he is as a person does not matter to anyone but ML and he can't prioritize ML or himself because of the position he's in. Telling ML he wants to answer is his way of answering. He knows there's something, like love, but he's never had the time to look it properly, the way he feels ML deserves. He doesn't want to throw out some cliche words from a romance movie he can't identify with just to respond to ML with words on the same level, ML wouldn't want that either. He wants to give an answer with feelings on the same level. It shows how much they care about each other, just as deeply even though their abilities to express it are different.

The plot was straight forward and the action and suspension was good. It was calculated, while also leaving clues like solving a mystery. Still, it managed to not stray away to far in different directions just to make things more complicated. The quality in the plot is, imo, heavenly influenced by what is happening on different sides, how many sides there are, and how they all are tied together. This story was well-written, had a neutral time-flow, and the important things were explained in a way that made sure you understood what was happening while also leaving you with the same questions that would be answered later so everything fell into place perfectly.

The ending was good. The feeling of wanting everything to end and be over for the characters sake, rooting for them, being stronger than the sad knowledge the story would be over. Perhaps it was a bit:

anticlimactic how everything went perfect since they organized their plan on the spider queen planet on how to take down the organization. No mistakes were made and the antagonists barely had a chance to fight back which meant it wasn't that much of a battle in terms of actions. But it was also the result of years of planning and acting on MC's side, doing everything within his power to make sure everyone around him - both enemies and allies - were exactly where they should be. Like a orchestra playing an unsettling melody the final battle unraveled before your eyes and you wanted nothing more than for everything to be over so MC could find peace while hoping everyone on his side would survive. There's always the final moment when the bad guy is defeated and you wonder if they'll get one last hit by making a sneak attack. In this case it did not happen and I'm honestly so relieved it didn't.

I've competed the main story (ch99) and read 4 extras which was:

about the proposal and then getting married.

I really liked the extras and enjoyed following them some more. The amount of extas (40 extras for a 99 ch main story) are concerningly many. I don't know if it'll just be a continuation of their story, following small but meaningful bits of life, or if it's more like a part 2 that feel like it's own sequel. I'm satisfied with what I've read thus far (c103) and right now I feel pretty content with what I've read even though I know there's a lot more left. I'll probably finish it (all the extas) sometime later and if there are any crucial moment that's important to the plot I'll update my review. <<less

I finished reading this in one day. I’m just so in love with the equal power dynamics between Sentinels and Guides. The MC is such a badass Guide, and I absolutely loved that. Both the MC and ML are genuinely in love and care for each other, which made their relationship feel so real.

I felt like every character actually had a personality, and I honestly cherished all of them. I also got really emotional over the side couple... I swear I had post-novel depression after finishing this. I need to... more>> go read something else just to clear my mind. <<less

Somewhat predictable ML but super cute and savvy MC. Really loved the “spy-like” beginning, even though the story pacing lost a lot of tension and steam at the end.

MC was a little too OP

Spoiler

apparently nobody cared that he basically mu*dered like 4-5 sentinels in the beginning.

I liked the side stories a lot, but main story was somehow a lot less exciting after the first part.
