The captain of Team Zero, Yan Yibing, possesses alluring almond-shaped eyes, exuding a lazy and carefree aura, with a deep red mole adorning his earlobe. He is renowned as the eternal star of the domestic esports scene, swimming in the sea of lucrative endors**ent deals, while countless female fans vie for his attention.

But one day, his throne was usurped.

Team Prince’s captain, Han Mo, younger and colder than him, not only boasts more female fans but also took over his coveted endors**ents. And this replacement was once just a trainee under him.

To say he wasn’t upset would be a lie.

Someone suggested a cunning plan – to disguise as female fans and duo-queue with Han Mo to gather intel.

Yan Yibing blushed in shame for a fleeting moment, then swiftly ordered a voice changer. With the voice changer in tow, he threw caution to the wind, spouting flirtatious words.

“Han Mo gege, you’re amazing; meimei loves you.”

“Thanks for the drink, gege; meimei drank it all.”

While Han Mo charged ahead on the virtual battlefield, Yan Yibing coasted along, letting Han Mo do the heavy lifting.

Until one fateful day, they were on a bumpy mountain road in a jeep, silhouettes appearing on the hilltop. Yan Yibing’s instincts kicked in, and he made a quick no-scope shot, hitting the opponent right in the heart.

Han Mo: “…”

Yan Yibing: “…Damn.”

In a hospital room on another occasion, Yan Yibing, wearing a mask, his hair damp, and his eyes reddened from a fever, pushed the person in front of him away.

“Stay away from me.”

The next second, Han Mo seized his wrist, tore off his thin mask, and pinned him against the wall, capturing his lips without hesitation.

With a deep, husky voice, Han Mo’s fingertip brushed over Yan Yibing’s flushed eye corner. “Just pass it on, as long as I can kiss you every day.”

At the World Championship backstage, Yan Yibing was livestreaming, leaning against a couch. His broadcast had accumulated hundreds of millions of viewers. He proudly showcased China’s gold medal to the camera when someone suddenly entered the frame, planting a kiss on his lips.

“Aren’t you tired?”

Yan Yibing froze, hastily ending the stream in a state of disarray.

Fans were astounded to realize that the person who kissed Yan Yibing was none other than Prince Team’s captain, Han Mo, with whom he had a tumultuous relationship.

Fans: “The world is ending, I’m tired.”

Summary was misleading as heck. The "pretending to be a female fan" only lasted for 2 chapters and most of the novel was the "love-hate" relationship between these two dummies.

The MC and ML have a slightly complicated past with the MC hurting the ML by accident with his below negative EQ and then the ML coming back for "revenge" only to do one thing and realize that he didn't like hurting the MC. ML, himself, is quite obsessed with the MC, despite his constant attempts to brainwash himself into think... more>> it wasn't so. However, around ch40 he understands the fact that he just really loves the MC.

Anyways, most the story so far is just these two awkward babies learning to interact normally with each other again (and the MC realizing that he was just about as straight as a wet noodle). <<less

I have mixed feelings about this. The thing is, the author did all the little things great, but failed in the big picture.

I just think it fell flat in doing justice to the premise.

... more>> This is a non-spoilery premise of the story:

Yan YiBing (MC) was the idol of the entire E-Sport industry. At 25, the usual retirement age of most professionals, he was still one of the best player in PUBG and was the backbone of his team called Zero. However, he carried a guilt within him and it had something to do with the person who used to be the golden child that he trained personally three years ago.

However, all everybody knew is that his ex-student, Han Mo (ML), was now the dazzling captain of the Prince team and the two of them hated each other.

There are two big positives to this story

  • The author is really good at building up characters from the ground up. For example you can get why Yan YiBing acts the way they act by kinda tracing their background.
  • The relationship ITSELF is kinda cute. I love that once they agreed to be in a relationship, there was no backtracking or anything.
The negative is this: Basically I love the seasoning that the author poured to the story, but I don’t like the rice they cook.

SPOILER ALERT FOR EARLY MAIN CONFLICT (the reason why ML left MC’s team)

Spoiler

Basically the reason why ML was kicked out from MC’s team in the first place is because somebody spilled to MC that ML is online betting. MC was raised as a rich child and thinks that this is against his principle and felt betrayed. So he kicked out ML without discussion.

Not long after MC found out that ML was online betting to raise money for his terminally ill mother. (There is a scene where the mother literally beg on her knees to give the betting money to MC). However he was conflicted with his inner feelings. So he just kinda block ML’s number and basically ignored him since.

THEN ML’S MOM DIED.

Usually, to keep characters forgivable and likable, authors make the Big Mistake reversible. The mom would’ve survived either with MC’s secret donations or something else. But not only ML’s mom died, the author made a point to say that if MC had talked to the manager they could’ve “made a big thing small” and not kick out ML at all in the first place.

Honestly I read the whole story not moving on from that.

The things that is in MC’s side in the story regarding this situation are these:

Spoiler
  • MC was a rich kid who didn’t know the value of money and didn’t realise it could be a lifesaving amount of money
  • ML never tried to borrow money from MC or tell him his mother is dying before
  • Near the start of the story, 3 years since the incident, MC told his team what happened between him and ML and why ML hated him
  • There is one drunken apology that MC promptly forgot in the morning
  • MC buys flower every year for ML’s mom grave
  • MC blocked ML because his feelings were hurt too (because ML broke his principles)
  • Like in his heart, MC understood he was wrong but also like all he ever expressed irl is confusion and asking for validation that his choice was correct (and was promptly agreed by everybody except for his own mom)
  • ML’s mom told ML that nobody (including MC) owed them anything and not to hold it against MC.
  • ML took “revenge” on MC after that. (Except the revenge is ignoring him irl + trolling an exhibition game by seriously gunning for MC and then telling MC to “retire”. Which were some weak ass revenge imo. Give me a couple rounds of mobile legends, and I can let you see worse messages on chat. He’s a professional player, are you kid—)
  • The biggest supporter of MC in this story and the only reason why I didn’t drop it is bcs ML is such a loverboy for MC. Like, even before he realised his feelings and when they were “enemies”, he’s constantly taking care of MC and paying attention to him.
[collapse]

Look, all this comes down to, is that I think MC neither apologises enough nor did he receive enough retributions for the relationship to be as good as it was. Like, it’s not completely his fault, but somebody’s mom still died and I feel like it’s not given the gravity it needed. I feel that ML is more sorry for them becoming “enemies” than MC for making that choice. Moreover, MC teammates are constantly asking ML to apologizefor trolling back then? Even though they knew what happened? Like... uhhh.

[collapse]

Other than the main conflict, the author had a habit of introducing cool chekhov’s guns and then shot it in a way that I feel very wasteful? Like, yes, the gun is shot, but its all shot to the roof? Like it’s just a few moment of surprise like, “Ah!”, and then there’s nothing more to it.

And like I love the characterisations in the story and I love it when the author seemed to imply the character’s are going to change. But, somehow, nothing changes? Or at least, I don’t feel like it.

SPOILER:

Spoiler

MC is seemed to be written like the author wanted to make him a round character. Like him constantly realising the faults of his own characters. But I don’t think MC changes at all at the end of the story except for him having a boyfriend? Like, ML and MC doesn’t even make nice because of anything MC does. ML just realised he fell in love and wanted to take care of him.

[collapse]

Like if you don’t think too much, this story is great. <<less
