Not rating quite yet, because I still need to read more. Decided to stop and leave a review for those trying to decide if they should read or not.

MC (Karnak) regresses back to when he was 20 and just learned necromancy, along with his incredibly snarky butler knight, Barros. Vague foreshadowing shows that outside forces are going to interrupt their plans, of course...

Neither of our main characters are s*upid, and they act like people with regular intelligence would. MC defies the usual regressor trope and doesn't go out of his way to use knowledge from his previous life to become OP, because that's what he did the last time and he wants to live low key and also differently now (at least as of chapter 14, we'll see). Provisional 4/5, because while there are no major issues I'm not really into it yet. <<less

So far it's pretty good.

It's presented in a somewhat light-hearted way with a strong comedic undertone sometimes, but the two main character (including the protagonist) can only be said to be absolute piece of shit, and it's a good thing. Turns out the guy who became the death king and destroyed the world is not a kind person, wow. If it was a JP novel, there is no way that would be allowed.

One thing I like is that it's both character driven and plot driven at the same time. A... more>> clear plot is presenting itself, and each character have their own reasons to do the things they do driving the plot forward.

World building is ok so far, nothing impressive but fine enough and there seems to be a fair bit of potential to explore.

The progression system / level / martial artc etc is pretty dry but thorough. At least so far, author is clearly putting some thought into it, making sure the whole thing makes sense, and going over the possible interactions between different part of the power systems ('warrior' / 'mage' / 'necromancer' / 'cleric').

Characters are nice enough, but held back a bit by the comedic undertone, but maybe they will have more opportunities to shine later. The dynamic between Karnak and Baros is pretty good though. It's also interesting how the protagonist, despite being pretty clever and having lot of experience, often fall victim to being biased. Sometimes, he almost looks dumb as a consequence, but I find it fairly relatable. When you spend so long doing things a certain way, it can be hard to face something challenging your common sense. <<less
