Wow! Wu Zhe never disappoints!

Before you dive in, keep in mind that this is one of her earlier writings from @2012. So - make some leeway for it - the times when LGBTQ was even less accepted compared to nowadays.

That said- Wow - Her characters - The leads, parents, brother and the son - are so well fleshed out. Very adorable.

Wu Zhe has the talent to make you fall in love with her male leads. This ML -Guan Ze might be one of my top favourites out of all her... more>> novels that I have read so far. Even Saye's Gu Fei!! I fell hard for him (Guan Ze) - don't care whether he is straight or not! This is all to the writer's credit.

Last but not least- The translator - has done an amazing job in bringing this locked story to us- providing us with clear and fluent flow and avoiding awkward stumbles - ensuring an engaging reading time. Thank you Levijiejie! Quick and regular updates up to completion too!

To another commenter (CassieRad) - I agree with your comments fully. That said - please give a chance to WuZhe's other novels - especially Saye - perhaps written later than this one - there won't be this much emphasis on domination/suppression. Here - it is perhaps due to the times / understanding from a straight females's point of view. You would notice in Saye - that this is completely not the issue :) and is more idealistic! Saye as a whole package is so much more superior. <<less

So good! It's more of an office romance than a gaming romance to be honest. They met through the game but after a while, I even forgot this novel was from the gaming genre. At the start, it's a little slow, but things got real good in the middle.

It depicts the sweet love of MC, chasing the previously straight ML, and facing family resistance towards his sexuality along with other things. Pretty slice of life, and things get settled quick. Super cute couple ❤️❤️

The only problem I have is what I generally have with most yaoi. Why are ppl so insistent on topping in yaoi? Have they ever seen the real scenario? I am saying this as a person who swings both ways but I am generally only comfortable with what my partner likes, I cannot imagine pushing them for this. Also do these ppl know that a lot of gays are generally bottoms? It's soooo hard to find gays that only top or aren't into bottoming. Since Lin Yao knew that he was gay it only made sense that he had tried or thought about bottoming sometime. But no, here he had this straight male ass ideology of suppressing. Also, the way he kept calling him wife, like bro he is a guy too can you both not be husbands?

I just feel that although the author wrote an excellent romance between two males. She just could not figure out how gay ppl are? I actually love reading switch couples, example from golden stage. But here it was just wrong. Like bro had brain tumor surgery and this is what you do? It would have made soooo much more sense if Gaun Ze was the one who had already realised he was gay. Since he seemed a lot more open to gay s*xual things in general instead of Lin Yao who just thought of "suppressing in bed" (most straight ass toxic thing ever)

Hi! TL here. I picked up this project because I love Wu Zhe and this is from early days. Because it's from pre-crackdown era, there are some smut in it, although not a lot.

This book is perfect as an in-between, quick read. It has the perfect balance of comedy, fluff, and bitterness, wrapped in witty dialogues, clear plot, and multi-layered characters. I also liked the virtual and real-world encounters.

If you are in need for a quick remedy after a heavy angst, give this a try.

This story was set up as a comedy but as the story went by it became heavier with the characters' backgrounds. I do like the relationship between the two characters and how normal their conversations sound. LY's family is just so nice and warm...I always like the story where the family actually acknowledge their relationship and treat the son's bf as their own sun.

The translator did a very great job explaining a lot of complicated stuff...I MTL'd the rest because I have no patience but I'll re-read it again after... more>> the translation is complete. <<less

Sorry I can’t complete this even after almost going to the end. The last part of the smut just kinda stop me. I wanted to give it a 3 but accidentally clicked 2.

In the beginning the story was nice and funny since it’s comedy. Afterwards it has slight angst and fluffy. ML is so green flag for me except the ... more>>

part where he left MC for operation and after being questioned by the MC’s brother

[collapse]

Btw heads up it should have reversible tag so don’t be shocked.

Spoiler

Now I don’t mind spoiler but I hate when the MC keeps like wanting to top the ML. As if he doesn’t f*ck the ML then he’s not a “man” anymore. Especially when going to face the father. I stopped right there because I just can’t handle it anymore. It’s super sad because it’s almost the end but again, I don’t like the 23-yo childish MC who’s forcing himself to someone who just had tumor operation...

5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I clicked 2 by mistake and apparently I can't change it.

I don't think I've ever loved a main character as much as I love Lin Yao. It's impossible not to love his joy, his sassy sarcasm and even his funny childish pettiness (I laughed out loud so many times with him, he's hilarious), or his innocence and his sweet nature. I love his fierce love for Guan Ze and I love how he fights to be taken into account, to be acknowledged as adult, to prove that his love... more>> is valid. Excellent read and I'm so incredibly grateful to the translator because they update so fast. I really can't thank them enough. <<less

This is a Wuzhe novel so it's a no brainer for me - it's automatically going to be amazing. A big thank you to the translator for taking this on. Only 6 chapters have been translated so far, so I can't say too much yet. However our 2 leads are being fleshed out nicely. There's humour and antagonism, I can already tell they will have great chemistry. I'll leave a proper review at the end.

Minor spoilers below. Skip this review if you want to go in blind.

Honestly, it's disappointing, but I had to drop this novel after chapter 47. I was trying to overlook some medium to big deal-breakers that usually ruin a story for me. For a minute, I thought the main character was starting to grow on me, and the male lead seemed pretty well-rounded.

Spoiler

Then everything just went haywire. One minute they're getting steamy, and the next, there's a fight outside where the male love interest whips out a machete and the main character is throwing bricks. Then, later in that same chapter I so think, they have this romantic moment on a hill? Like, what even? It totally undercuts the emotional impact.

[collapse]

This novel has its fair share of issues - too many to count. For one, the main character's "compulsions" pop up and disappear randomly, which is frustrating. If it's not needed, why throw it in there? Then there's the mother (I dislike her the most) ; she acts like a child, but nobody bothers to explain why or even confront her about it. Everyone just goes along with her quirks. It makes the whole thing hard to take seriously, especially with the forced comedy and randomness.

Plus, the whole vibe turns heavy suddenly, where you just kind of expect everything to go south.

Spoiler

They really should have a h*mophobia tag or at least something about the massive closed-mindedness around sexuality. The main character's mom and even his brother aren't there for him at all. I get that not everyone understands being gay, but the family is basically forcing him to pretend to be straight and hopefully soon marry some woman.

And the brother's monologues? What's his deal? Does he actually think that if the male lead were out of the picture, the main character would suddenly be happier? Seriously? They expect him to pretend to be straight when pretty much everyone in the family (except maybe the dad, who's not really important) knows he's gay. It's wild!

[collapse]

Even if it weren't for the main love interest, he could easily fall for another guy later on, but the other characters don't seem to consider this at all because they have as many brain cells as the MC.

It's baffling how a supposedly "loving" family that claims to care for him could try to shove him into a life like this.

And on top of that, the main character is super childish and immature. They say he's 23, but he acts like he's 13. He's just whiny and spoiled, while the male lead's got this heavy past (don't even get me started on the so-called sister). When the male lead opens up about his struggles, it's just weird because the main character hasn't really faced anything significant, yet the male lead has been through hell. The dynamic could have been so much more interesting & balanced, but instead, the story just keeps dropping in quality, and from what I've seen in other reviews, it only gets worse.

Ultimately, it felt like a waste of my time, but we can't deny that the translator deserves all the praise. <<less

One of the stories that gave me a variety of flavors 🥹🥺

At the beginning to the middle of the story I was thinking hard, I even wanted to comment that this story was really not my favorite candy. It was really mentally exhausting and made me wary of the problem at hand. Like the author is really good at stirring the audience's emotions with the characters and conflicts that are present.

However,

thankfully, except for one or two stories, I definitely finished all the stories I started. Including this story, and... more>> I LOVE it!!! The ending changed my entire assessment of this novel 🥹🥹

one of the best extra endings I've ever read!!!

It really closes the story and resolves the conflict in an epic way 😭😭

heartwarming story!!! So sweet!!! Very touching!!! Trust me...

I love how the author is very consistent with our MC and ML characters. How cute they are together, how pe*verted they are together, and how clever the author is in creating a family figure behind the MC. This is probably one of the best families in a story.

Seriously, I cried while feeling touched at many moments 🥹

maybe this is a deep and conflicted story, in the beginning it is very worrying especially for weak readers like me. But hang in there!!! Because the ending is really beautiful and satisfying! <<less

4.2 for me is deserved, the pace is good the comedy is also good, the smut also good but idk the sweet is not enough for me and somehow the extra about MC and mc's brother childhood didn't seams important bcs they don't had continued, idk what author want if u say it office romance, the office is just became background if they want became e-romance or inside game romance, the interaction when they were gaming together is discontinued or suddenly stop jumped to real life if u want make... more>> a combination their percentage is kinda.. Awkward <<less
