As most the reviewers had said before, the strong point is the magic system. Unique enough to be core of the story, but the MC himself takes much away from the story. His inner dialogue is constant complaints on the strangeness of the new world, though to his credit the author tries to establish why as well. It’s always why would they do this or that and he makes his own rationale for it after complaining. It consistently comes up which makes it annoying while simultaneously making it feel like... more>> he hasn’t adjusted in this world yet despite living in it for so long. It makes sense because he was sheltered but it isn’t presented well. While I understand the occasional nostalgia for modern food but his insistent gripe on basic food palate of the fantasy world is tedious, his master would’ve prepared him with spices considering he was fine wit her cooking for so long, if not he should’ve asked for it as an adult in a teenager’s body. It’s one of the troupes for reincarnations that often comes up, reborn as a new person with adult memories, but for some reason reverted into an actual child’s mindset with no explanation.

Overall it is a good novel, but the lack of any important events and the only mystery of magic to keep you interested, it is a slice of life, adventure of a new magic user in a unfamiliar world situation. It might be your cup of tea but I find it hard to like/dislike it as 60 chapters in it feels stagnant. <<less

Quite a fun read. Don't know why is has such a low rating.

The way magic works here is very unique. Instead of just casting spells, everything in the world and all forces, etc are considered "Mysteries". Sort of like living things. For darkness magic, you might go into a cave and try to hear/sense it. And then try to communicate with it and ask it to do something you want. Sometimes it might not agree, and you can offer a gift through a magic circle to convince it, etc. Same... more>> goes for fire, air, water, etc. Magical creatures like drakes and dragons are themselves consjdered "Mysteries" and can be communicated with through a special "Summoning" branch. Then there is space/time among others.

Quite fun. <<less

It's been quite literally average, though I'm not sure if it's due to the translation or the author's writing.

The idea on how the elements work is definitely unique and deserves credit-- but the writing style negates both emotion and immersion by making you read it mechanically.

A lot of opportunities missed by not building up the world. Many more missed by not building up the MC.

... more>> They could have seriously made this a 4 star novel if they took some time to think about the emotion of the character.

It's still early, but I'm not expecting much. <<less

Previous stuff
Spoiler

This is review is purely based on the editor/translator's style and I'm giving it 3 stars even though it looks pretty interesting (from chapter 3)

Nice translation, no big flaws

Ian/Edward/Felix/Eredith are names appearing, so it seems like western naming will be used

Since everything is styled as western medieval fantasy it feels extremely weird and breaks my immersion in the story when "Oppa" and "Ajumma/Noona" is used by medieval peasants

Big brother / Sister / Auntie etc. would give a much better reading experience

Edit at chapter 24:
It looks very good, easily a 4.5/5 so far

but again there is some small problems with Korean sneaking in where it shouldn't be

At the age of 17, he asks an innkeeper for "gukbap" which I guess is Korean stew? the problem here is that "Noona" is apparently normally used, but other Korean words aren't which further clashes with world building... (again this is an editor/translator problem that appears due to the previous korean)

He's lived 17 years in another world without speaking Korean and with nothing to write down or reminisce about his old life, so the fact that he asks for Korean stew in a random inn is truly strange (original author problem)

review at chapter 81

this is a 3-3.5 star novel

Spoiler

I'll start with the biggest problem first

Random facts and references in the writing

As an example, when describing a personality type... instead of writing "Introvert" the author decided to write the scientific name of a personality analysis

Thinking up clickbait youtube titles for a situation... after living 18 years in a medieval world

Comparing something happening to a play made by Faker in LoL, and other random games

It seriously breaks immersion whenever that happens

---

The magic system is very interesting but not executed well

I was here for a fantasy wizard, then suddenly we are introduced to a faith full of idiots and a goddess who seems to simp for the MC letting him perform miracles

MC gets a magic sword that seems to completely ignore the previously established magic system of communicating with the mysteries/spirits

Of course MC has a system that'll let him instantly increase his mastery in a field of magic / grow closer to the mysteries, yet he seems to decide he's strong enough after using it twice, and doesn't use it to get stronger even though he's been in several deadly situations

With the way magic/mystery works simply having MC be liked by certain mysteries would be better as the system adds nothing to the story other than breaking immersion

---

The MC lives in his own imaginary world, and still feels like a fresh reincarnator who hasn't accepted that the world is different from his home and still keeps his previous habits of communication with others

after 18? years living in another world... 10 of those as a medieval peasant who doesn't get enough to eat... yet he still acts like he's in modern korea

He seems to have a split personality as he decides to follow the worlds tradition in one chapter even if he doesn't like it much, it's just very convenient for him to do so

A few chapters later he gets angry and refuses that same tradition for no reason without any buildup

The chapter after that he goes back to following the tradition and doesn't care at all

---

On top of that he's a dense idiot concerning romance, on his way to getting a harem of the Japanese kind where nothing ever actually happens... I can't be sure at C81 of course, but I really doubt he'll get anywhere romantically with the vibe of the story

pretty bland cliche stuff

Hidden beneath a simple summary and generic title lies a rich and vibrant storyline. The pacing, characters and worldbuilding are masterfully created and is leagues ahead of today's mass-produced isekai sewage.

A simple premise but masterful execution. The magic system is very well defined and the suspension of disbelief is very well crafted. Will recommend 9.75/10

the magic system is interesting, and the character interactions are very slice-of-life-ish, not featuring lots of drama/any of those elements.

not sure why the rating is as low as it is, it's definitely one of the better webnovels out there. Read for cool magic, and a focus on the journey rather than an overarching big bad guy.

Spoiler

the beginning is definitely the strongest point, as the novel seems to spiral a bit with its story-line as it goes on. Large emphasis on 'journey'.
