[ Become Maxim von Waldeck’s wife in name only. ]

That was the simple mission assigned to Daisy, a secret agent of the revolutionary army.

Maxim von Waldeck, a mercenary born out of wedlock, known as the royal family’s hunting dog.

He was being thrown into the line of fire as cannon fodder, and his chances of surviving the war were slim. No woman was willing to step into the role of becoming a widow.

The plan was straightforward: act as his wife in name during the war, then escape before the kingdom was conquered after their defeat.

If she could pull that off, she’d walk away with a hefty sum and retire comfortably.

“I’ll be back soon, wife.”

Yes, it was nice meeting you. Rest in peace.

“We’ll consummate the marriage when I return.”

You dream big, don’t ya? May you pass on peacefully.

She assumed it was just his hopeful dream of a blissful future.

…But then.

[ Maxim von Waldeck Achieves an Unprecedented Great Victory! ]

Things went completely opposite of what she had expected.

[ National Hero Grand Duke Waldeck! What do you most look forward to upon your return home? ]

[ Holding my beloved wife, Daisy, in my arms. ]

No way, that can’t be right.

This has to be a misprint or something, she thought.

But Maxim von Waldeck was a man who took his promises as seriously as his life.

“I’m back, my wife.”

And with those words, he suddenly pulled her into his arms.

Daisy’s eyes darted around in confusion at his unexpected behavior.

“Shall we head to the bedroom now?”

“Pardon?”

He whispered softly in her ear, a lazy smile painted on his lips.

“Forgive me, but I’m in a bit of a hurry.”

He was already heavy and hot, the front of his trousers straining as if they were about to burst.

‘Is this bastard some sort of pe*verted lunatic?’

Could Daisy safely divorce him before her cover was blown?

i like this story a lot!!! I usually don't read novels that have a rating below 3.5 (when I read it the current rating this novel is 3) bcs most of the time it feels too risky lol but when I saw the premise of this novel I couldn't stop myself from trying it, and I am so glad I did! even though it started as something familiar (arranged marriage) it turned out to be very fun and full of twists.

the fl, daisy is a very pretty and strong character.... more>> she was once the assassin raised to kill for the revolutionary army, until one mission changed her life. she wanted a quiet life after resigning from her job and thought this marriage would be just a way to secure her future. but when maxim came back alive, everything turned upside down.

the ml: maxim, he has this scary reputation, ruthless in war and cold in politics, but with daisy, he shows a completely different side. he is shameless with his affection, openly possessive, but also sincere and protective. he values his promises deeply and treats his marriage vow as something sacred. what makes his character interesting is this mix of power and vulnerability where he looks unshakable to others, but with daisy he is willing to lay everything bare.

Spoiler

"I'm still... terrified that you'll leave me."

Her fingertips trembled against his cheek. At first, she thought it was her own hand shaking, but it was actually Maxim's grip on hers that was quivering.

A man feared as the Grim Reaper himself on countless battlefields, someone you'd assume was afraid of absolutely nothing. It seemed completely unreal, but his vulnerable expression, like a candle flickering in a strong wind felt undeniably genuine.

"I'll fix everything that's wrong. So please... "

"... don't leave me, alright?" He exhaled shakily, practically begging.

[collapse]

also.. what keeps me hooked throughout the story is maxim's overwhelming love for daisy feels almost impossible to explain at first. they only met once, during their wedding, and daisy herself treated it like a temporary arrangement. yet maxim comes back from war obsessed with her, calling her his beloved wife, and acting as if she is the center of his world. so I keep wondering: why does he love her so much when they barely even know each other?

overall, this novel is dramatic and full of twist but what I love most is that it never shifts away from daisy and maxim. there's no other love interest, just their complicated ((and sizzling hot)) relationship. if you like strong characters, obsessive but sincere ml, then this novel is definitely worth reading ! <<less

Agree with restingpeach that FL does not read as spy at all. She's supposed to be some assassin that's been trained and doing this since birth but her first strategy for getting her divorce and freedom is to just word vomit a bunch of lies like "you know I'm actually a kleptomaniac and I love to smoke cigars like a chimney I used to steal cigars all the time and just smoke smoke smoke."

I gave up after this conversation 'cause it made me cringe.

And on top of that ML is... more>> being pushy with sleeping in her bed and pins her down and the best she can get in is a headbutt? Like where did the assassin who takes down her targets with ease go?? <<less

The comedy was pretty funny at the beginning of the story.

However, it gets really tiring to read because we can summarize the story with few simple paragraphs after reading a lot of chapter. There's barely anything going on except the ML and FL. ML is a war hero and FL is a spy. The writer kept repeating this info over and over.

Also the FL is supposedly a spy, but it doesn't really show that she is one. Her actions feels like some naive girl, leaving me wondering how could she survive her past missions.

I'm honestly a bit saddened by the low rating this novel has received. I'll try my best to give it a positive review because I genuinely enjoyed reading it.

This novel gave me a roller coaster of emotions. There were moments that made me laugh and cry. The intimate scenes were also very intense, and Max's dirty talk definitely stood out.

my favorite line of his was: "I am a hopeless pe*vert, but... if you’re really going to use it as a pillow (what he means was his c*ck lolol), then by all means. What an honor it would be for House Waldeck"

Daisy -
Spoiler

She was young when CLEAN started training her to become an agent. They basically raised and brainwashed her to live and die faithfully for her so-called "Father/Count Thereze" and also the real villain of this story. He does'nt see Daisy as her daughter but merely a tool that can "EASYly" dispose of.

[collapse]

Even though she became one of the organization’s best assassin spies and could easily kill someone, she eventually vowed not to take another life. Daisy is actually very soft-hearted, especially when it comes to children. She leaves the organization and tries to live a normal life.

Unfortunately, fate is cruel. Count Thereze finds her again and gives her a new mission: to become Max's wife and killl him. If she succeeds, she'll finally gain her freedom.

I really admire Daisy's courage, though sometimes I also find her a bit frustrating and naive.

Spoiler

especially that runaway arc, was gonna dropped this novel but I held back because I want to know if they'll gonna reunite again and they did... happy ending yey

....

Max, on the other hand, reminds me of a tamed version of Leon from Try Begging, at least when it comes to how he treats the FL. He's completely lovesick and clearly cares deeply for her. He even patiently waits for their first night together.

But Max is also a master manipulator and a shameless pe*vert. He knows Daisy is soft-hearted and often uses that to his advantage, sometimes just to get closer to her (sex).

Spoiler

His obsession with Daisy actually started long ago. When they were children, Daisy once saved him, but she doesn’t remember it because CLEAN brainwashed her to forget. It's one of their rules once they are done with agent's training.

Their story is tragic. They died three times in their previous lives. By their fourth life, Max is determined to protect Daisy at all costs. Only Max has the memories of their past lives

[collapse]

Aunt Waldeck may have seemed harsh at the beginning, but as the story progresses, she slowly becomes a motherly figure to Daisy. I really loved that development. It was nice seeing someone genuinely care for Daisy after everything she had gone through.

Rose, despite her sharp tongue, also genuinely cares for Daisy. She might come off as rude or blunt, but deep down she's very protective of her. <<less
