Hello. Translator here - not really going to give a very detailed review. Just want to say that Bat is fully translated but not linked above because it is password-locked, if you want to read it then google my name and bianfu or google the bianfu carrd for the link.

Anyway, this is an OLD danmei, there's some heavy and toxic stuff going on, readers who can't handle toxic themes should not pick this up. But if you can and you like a true enemies-to-lovers trope you might like this.

The language of the story is very poetic, it's a really good read and there is a lot to explore and understand about the characters.

I read it to the end but in raws, so I don't understand everything.

I could say it's sweet and adventurous, I'm glad I found this story.

Though there are IMHO many contradictions in the characters that kinda kill the atmosphere and make the story less believable. So I wouldn't say it is deep or leaves a great impact.

1 - What's with all that torturing in the beginning? Is ML a sadist? He doesn't seem to be later. Is there a point? No.

2 - How does Bat's love connected with the tortures? He falls for the ML before all that and while ML shows to him devotion and love and it attracts Bat, but how does the pain influence him? It seems the author tried to uses two kinds of stories in one.

3 - It is said the ML uses the same methods of torture on many other people. So he's a maniac. What does he fall for Bat then with such vast experience?

4 - ML looks like possessive jealous type and he swears that nobody will hurt his Bat. Yet his subordinate hurts him, touches his naked body - and the ML discusses it and jokes about it. Where is the logic?

Seems like the author from some point changed the character's nature - from a sadistic maniac to a noble and devoted lover who 's been mistakenly taken for a sad*st (which is not the case). More like she forgot that he's a sadist. <<less

This novel is so good! This is the real enemies to lovers trope that I've been searching for (cz honestly most of those so called enemies to lovers danmeis I've found were not really enemies, some are just rivalry and some are just them bickering with each other, sigh)

I love a couple where they want to kill each other but also conflicted with their feelings toward the other hahaha

This is a true enemies to lovers novel, as several people have mentioned. As I was telling a couple of my friends: this story started out with so much potential. But unfortunately, there were so many issues that it did not fully realize that potential and in the end, fell short and left me wanting.

First of all, the MC is supposed to actually be very capable despite him putting up a front that he's helpless and weak at first, because of his other identity. However, throughout the story, he's... more>> constantly doing things that feel not very... smart. And he's constantly being manipulated by the ML, even when he thinks he's doing all these things himself. There's also a real lack of character development, especially internally and also in terms of what actually makes him feel differently about the ML in the end.

Now, about the ML: his motivations for doing what he does is never really explored. Like, when did he start loving the MC and why (is it simply because the MC is very beautiful, which the author loves to wax about his beauty) and why is he willing to do all the behind the scenes maneuvering (despite not physically being present) in the latter half of the novel. He just seems too much like a plot device sending agents along to influence things in the background. I just didn't feel very convinced about their relationship when it changed from enemies to lovers at the end.

And lastly, the "big bad" that shows up in the latter half of the story was dealt with in such an anti-climatic fight.

The translations are quite well-done though, so kudos to Qianya for that. <<less

I don't understand the MC, you can say he is the typical stubborn character who only do things they believe in and won't give in to other people even if he have no any reason. I don't understand why he is being the bat as well, his objective is too shallow for me. Maybe I am. Just not into thing story setting, I am not a fan of a bewitching MC that everyone lust on plus having a second face, also thinking he's good at deceiving people but in reality... more>> he is not. <<less
