Before she jumped into the pond filled with ten thousand venomous creatures, Ah Lai asked her, ‘Did you ever regret meeting him?’

Su Bai watched her quietly. After a long moment, she lifted her lips and smiled. ‘It was the greatest blessing of my life to have met him.’

And she leapt off the steps.

She thought: no matter how difficult her love was, no matter how she hated and then despaired, in this life, she was immensely fortunate.

Because she had once loved a person so deeply.

Even if, he had never loved her.

What should I say? After finishing it, my mind is blank. I think the author trying to convey the message is-

If you don't cherish the thing you have now, then sometimes it'll be too late and you can only regret for eternity.

Here FL (Su Bai) is the strong woman that I look up to, though emotionally unstable. The most weak point in her character is her strong devoted love towards ML, but I can understand that it's just her character. For loving a man who is loyal to his country... more>> which is also the enemy of your own motherland, I didn't think she would've a happy ending either. In this type of situation, if you can't break free from familial affections and belonging to your family and country and escape or get into political turmoil to solve the issues between the two countries, I don't think ANY type of person would've a good ending. FL's love towards ML could be described as beautiful and brave but also pitiful. In my opinion, FL's live for ML and the ML himself is toxic to her.

The ML's cold behavior towards FL in the past wasn't clearly explained by the author which made me somewhat frustrated. I can't make any heads or tails out of it.I think the tragedy was solely ML's fault. And his regret will be burning within him for all his lifetime and I'm satisfied with that. If FL's fault was there anywhere, then may be it was that she didn't shake ML and ask, what the in the hell are your intentions for sending me to Yue?! Like hell!!

The ML said that she didn't believe in him. Did you expect her to BELIEVE in that situation where she killed the one who loved her and her fellow countrymen while facing a conspiracy from your side, or are you that naive?! #_#

I mean the ML sent out some sentimental sh*t and expect the FL to be a mindreader.

And Ah Lai, I hope with all due respect that she burns in hell.

But more than my anger towards Ah Lai is my disappointment in ML. This kid didn't live up to this sister's expectations.

The ML's ending was satisfyingly good, though. He can only love the shell that's left of FL with all his heart but will never get any response to his love for this lifetime. Guess what is called KARMA *evil laughter*

P.S:

I wrote a bit too much about this, I know. Sorry about that but I just can't help it. But I would say, judge yourself and tell me if my evaluation is right or wrong...? >_< <<less

For a short story, this is pretty good, I'd give it 3.5-4. Would be better if it's told from the MC's pov instead of an outsider's in my opinion. Would have made the impact and tragedy greater.

MC is the naive kind that really brought it on herself and got caught in the schemes of the other woman. I can see why the MC loves the ML cause she is indebted to him, but her biased observations of the ML's behaviour towards herself and the other FL makes it unclear what... more>> the ML feels, until the very end. But even with the tragic ending, I feel sad but not to the point where I'm devastated, more like I pity this idiot couple who got schemed. Am I heartless? Lol. It's just that, I would care about the characters more if the story were longer and touched on what made the ML fall for the MC, and vice versa, instead of going straight into how tragic is it that they misunderstood each other, and how they are suffering as a consequence of their actions, etc. <<less

Spoiler

When Yue Chi wipes Jue Sha's face as though she's crying, and says, how can a woman of the Su family cry so easily, when Su Bai is no longer truly there and can no longer cry, I felt as if he's completely gone crazy from his longing and regret.

The ML starts trusting Ah Lai too easily, and although he never believed that MC could ever truly betray him, he was still much too cold to her. I don't hate him though, as I can almost imagine him caring for a gu, a creature who cannot speak nor feel, and who cannot understand the meaning of her master's words and actions, for the rest of his life; as he deludes himself to believe she's still here with him, which is technically still true.

One of the best tragedies I've read in a long time. I don't hate the ML, for the reasons mentioned above, but I hope Ah Lai drops dead :P

Although that may be too easy an end, I'm too spent with the events and tragedies of the MC and ML, to bother with such a suprisingly one dimensional character.

I was reluctant to read this because I know I'll be tearing up non-stop, but I'm glad I did. Maybe because it was short that the misunderstanding was then solved, and it has less drama

though I was hoping for a retribution for the princess ಠ︵ಠ

. With such short story the author delivered the emotions the characters felt and made the readers feel them too.
