An ordinary kid by the name of Aikawa Kanami winds up in a fantasy world operated by RPG video game rules—but this isn’t good news. He awakes in the bowels of a gargantuan death trap called the Dungeon. Narrowly escaping thanks to his grit, cunning, and newfound arsenal of magic spells and skills, he wants nothing more than to get back home to Earth and the invalid sister who needs him. His only lead? It’s said that whoever makes it to the hundredth and final level can have any wish granted. In his desperation, Kanami cooks up the most efficient means of clearing the Dungeon and lies his way into a partnership of expediency with an aspiring swordfighter who’s rubbish with the blade but unbelievably skilled at magic. Kanami’s cool determination, however, is soon put to the test when he and his new comrade are faced with a surprise boss fight. How far will he go in order to emerge victorious?

Have read 3 volumes, it was hard. After that, a quick run through the next three.

Not that it's very interesting.. Six volumes stretched over a very short period of time (about a month). The MC has only one concern – to conquer the dungeon to return to his sister, that's all. In doing so, he has to deal with mentally unstable people (he himself is subject to mental manipulation through a mysterious skill). There is no special immersion, his life beyond the dungeon is not described in any way.

The worldbuilding... more>> is really weak. I was especially struck by how easy their library is to access and EVERYONE can go in and read any information. It was a lazy way of letting MC learn everything he needed to know about the world. The people here are mostly weak, so the protagonist becomes an OP character in a week.

It's not that the novella is bad – the author tries to make the characters feel alive. But it simply doesn't have many enjoyable moments.

Also, forget the harem. There are a bunch of girls who are attached to the main character, but there is NO fanservice or relationships.

Spoiler

"Allow me to accompany you, Mr. Kanami, " said Maria with a peaceful smile. "I promised I wouldn't leave your side no matter what." — That's literally all Maria will say to the MC in post-recovery. No dialog. Nothing.

Honestly the first three volumes were confusing. The second three are just bad.

This is really a poor story. It's your typical Transported to Another World, but the author doesn't take the MC through the expected early motions to figure out why he can understand the language, how money works, how to fight with weapons, how magic works, why a labyrinth exists, why monsters exists, etc. Aside from the inital confusion when he wakes up inside the labyrinth, the MC just carries on almost normally like he overslept on his commuter train and got stranded in a different city.
Spoiler

For example, the first thing the MC did after getting out of the labyrinth was to, at the advice of the guard, go into the City center to check out the map on the signboard. It was basically a You-Are-Here that conveniently also had a history of the country written on it too. He doesn't wonder why he had no trouble reading it. The next thing he does is go to the City's Library which is conveniently open to anybody who walks in. He doesn't wonder why. He spends the rest of the day there reading. He has no concerns about where to get food, where to spend the night, or that he doesn't have any money.

[collapse]

It's not as if the MC is portrayed as care-free. The concepts of basic survival priority in a totally strange, new environment is just never brought up. As a consequence, world building is also neglected. Another thing that bothered me was that once the MC decides to go back to the labyrinth for serious (with a companion), he doesn't fight everything he encounters to get used to combat. After a few test fights, he start cherry-picking for boss-type monsters! While his level is still single digits! It makes no sense especially since there haven't been any indication that he has any martial background or has spent any time since he got out of the labyrinth training with his found sword or experimenting with magic.

Everything is so hand-wavy that it's impossible to get immerse into the story. On top of all this, English is a second language for the Translator. While I truly appreciate their effort, most of the chapters are like reading somewhat cleaned up straight Google Translated gibberish. It isn't pleasant.

The novel itself isn’t that bad but.... the grammar is really bad. Not that bad that you can't understand the story, but bad enough to leave you with a headache. Going to wait for more chapters and will read then. Hopefully, will be edited by then.

When you read the first few chapters of this novel you'll have a lot of questions about this story. Most importantly: why and how was the main character transmigrated? Whose interests do his unique abilities serve? As of the end of volume three, neither the character himself nor the readers know the answer. This does not represent a flaw in the writing - the setting of this story is deliberately kept as a mystery which is yet to be solved.

One of the things you will learn in volume 3 is... more>> that this world is darker than you originally thought. The conclusion of the third volume is so heavy that in the afterword the author has to resort to begging the readers to not abandon the story.

I do not know if I will continue reading this story, but I'll still give it four stars for its competent execution of the author's vision. <<less

Pretty good so far. The translator is from Japan and is clearly translating in english as a second language, but even so the quality is still good enough to read.

The MC is OP, but not infallible. Both he and his partner have almost died once and while we still see him exhibit some typical Japanese weak willed MC characteristics, he is still smart enough to seperate from tr*sh characters while seeking companions that will help him climb to the top. He also does not shy away from fights or constantly... more>> cry and whine thanks to the faithful 'Confusion' stat, which can be compared to the 'Gamer's Mind' stat in "The Gamer" webcomic.

All things considered, I will continue to read this novel. <<less

Until volume 2 it's really nice ~ MC magic and sword powers are kinda badass + he is kind of good person these days you read too much shitty novels where MC gets bullied and he goes for revenge and kills everyone brutally or acts as psychopath being douchebag to humans not trusting others in premise of being intellectual and careful, but our MC here isn't like that he is too nice ~

characters are oddballs yet entertaining there are a lot of psychological elements in plot,

The element... more>> which makes this novel most interesting is mystery and plot twists ~ <<less

Tbh, I haven't read a single thing about this novel, but from the very beginning, I am a very big fan of Ukai Saki (Art of Black Bullet). I have the color spread of this novel as PC background and another one as tablet and another one for my phone, from that alone I could tell that it's the pretty dark story I liked very much, the characters, the individualism, and the concepts is prettt much like arifureta and seirei gensouke, (the former has drama pretty well executed,... more>> the latter had a very on-scale-imaginable fights) or most likely, kuro no maou. Though, now I'm hating the illustration of the first two novels because of this. Well, I'll withold judgement for now and test whether the writing fits the art style of ukai saki, though having Ukai Saki alone is a very big plus for me.

Edit: There seems to be a lot of development in the future based from the illust, and probably a lot better than those things mentioned above, the story itself is pretty dark. Most characters are involved in the circumstantial plot, and not too much indiscriminate, the flow is really fluid since everything is basically centered on the MC and every important characters makes direct contact with him, because of that, there is basically no change in perspective. There's also the encounters too be considered, incidentally, this might be one of it's selling point. Might as well include, the interaction directly to the circumstance of the character. <<less

Pretty decent novel, my only gripes are just with the translation teams. The translation done by Ridwan is pretty bad. Sometimes being to the point where I can't understand what's going on. Translation done by MaoTI is hard to say since at the time of this review their site spears to be down.

Overall decent novel held back by translation.

Started brilliantly. Extremely poor translation quality, but the plot and execution, along with the storyline and sheer emotions was done pretty good. But then post the s*ave girl arc things went downhill so fast. By the 4th volume things got so shitty that I couldnt even bear to read another line. I think the author genuinely lost track of what he was trying to do and I have never in my life regretted wasting days on a light novel as much as this one.

I didn't like it that much.

Mostly because of the terrible translation job. It gets better at the end, but for almost the entire story it has to be corrected as you read it. Ruins emerson.

I was not impressed by the story either. It attempts at world building, but leaves a lot to be desired. Anyone should be able to smell a Yandere a mile away, but the MC seems oblivious. The stats are not explained very well at all and again leaves a lot to be desired. I am not... more>> going to rate it because it is only on volume 2, but I don't think I will be partaking. <<less

I have read this already before the pandemic strucked, and I remember leaving a review about this after vol 4. I dont know if someone deliberately took down the reviews here, I am certain that there were far more written reviews about it.

Im glad that the novel made it to its 16th serialization, and I cant wait for anyone to share some spoilers on the volumes ahead of the 5th volume. If the story resolve to a better way, I will amend my review or retract it. But for now. I will rate it as it is..... <<less

Its a ok/decent Isekai novel which gets progressively darker by each volume. It feels less tropy than other Isekai novels and still has some originality. The harem element isn't too bad right now and the harem characters are likable and don't have the personality of cardboard. Personally I didn't like the way volume 3 ended because it has one of my least favourite themes.

Honestly, I would say this novel is above average. Not a great one, but quite decent compared to the many cardboard copies here. BUT. You'd rather read this novel somewhere else since the translator here is on the level of translating "m**t stick" in a HRPG game. Just buy the official version from J-novel club or pirate it somewhere since it's quality would be guaranteed.

Onto the story itself. It's like going on a straight line but with many branching paths just to go back to the very same straight path.... more>> Quite simple but often stray from it's original plot. And pretty fast at that. Though the event itself is quite well written and helps develope our MC's relation with his companions so there's not much to complain about.

Spoiler

Onto his skill, it's been hinted fairly early on that it's nothing good but it more or less acts like this: one suppress his emotions and the other return it, amplified many times while supposedly, strengthens him, maybe. The strengthen part I'm not sure, cause there's no sign of it and it's simply the 4th volume's supposed antagonist's view.

[collapse]

Well that's more or less it. For me it's more or less a 4 but compared to many cardboard novels out here, I'll rate it a 5. <<less

This has a very interesting start.

For once, the MC even after what could be called as being betrayed, didn't walk on path of revenge but instead chose to priortize his safety and going back to his own world. He is quite cautious and collects information before making his way to clear the dungeon supressing his desire to go back by his rationality rather than being emotionally driven and recklessly trying to clear the floors. Also it has quite a unique plot in the sense

Spoiler

that on the surface one of his unique skills [???] seems to clear his confusion and make his mind calm but it is foreshadowed that the skill might instead be doing him harm, making him a single minded loner and preventing him from bonding with other people and making them look as insignificant. It also affects his mind subconsciously as his Confusion stats went up for no reason some time after Lastiara left, in his SLEEP. This is the first time I have ever seen MC's skill itself being his own adversary (The usual trope is crappy looking skill turns out to be extremely useful for MC).

[collapse]

Also, things suddenly take a very dark turn by the end of Volume 3 and I have seen a lot of people complaining about it but personally I would wait and see what next few volumes has in store before judging this novel as bad. 4 stars out of 5 for now, will change the ratings once I read further.

Edit: Ok, so I couldn't wait and read ahead and oh boy, I wasn't expecting this. Frankly speaking, I think it's missing many tags like mindbreak and tragedy. And it goes much worse than that.
Spoiler

So here's the gist: The author loves torturing his characters. Just when you think you know you who the villain is, just when you think the goal is within reach of Kanami, it turns out that the villain wasn't what we assumed and Kanami would immediately be subjected to all sorts of desperation, pain and tragedy (like Clannad level) from a completely unexpected direction. And this cycle goes on again and again without mercy. You'll feel your heart shatter into million pieces and then again crushed to dust.

[collapse]

I can't exactly express in words how I feel about this than that this is a rollercoaster of emotions; mainly of despair and grief. It does come to a close with a happy end but I would advise against reading it if you can't handle repeated bouts of tragedies and sufferings. I don't know how to properly evaluate this so I think I would chose to keep my ratings unchanged.

Just one last warning: This isn't your normal Isekai with s*upid powerups and power of frienship bullshit. 'Abandon all hope ye who enter here' aptly sums up this (reading) dive. <<less

I had read this way back in 2018

The premise was interesting and the plot seemed cool enough but it devolves fast as there isn't much as a backbone to keep up the story.

The lack of worldbuilding especially is such a waste of the story's potential as this could have been a totally deeper exploration of how the MC survives in an unknown world but all that is thrown aside for fights and cool moments.

Meh plot but I rated it 2 stars caus ethos had the potential to be a solid... more>> 4 star story but settled for isekai cliches and edginess instead. <<less
