Nan Du, the most famous vicious cannon fodder tasker in the Space-Time Administration, was about to be promoted to the villain role in his next world. As a result, the system had an error and turned the ruthless villain into an affectionate second male lead, forcibly importing him into a D-class small world.

System: You must be patient, humble, give silently, and pave the protagonist’s growth path with your deep feelings. For specific character design, please refer to the book: “The Whole World Knows That I Love Him, Only He Knows Nothing”

Nan Du looked at the male protagonist’s face that resembled his ex-boyfriend and smiled: Okay.

But… The order needs to be changed.

Deep affection for the male protagonist (×)
Reverse fishing tactics to make the male protagonist affectionate towards me (√)

Well, let me preface this by saying hi! I'm the translator of this novel.

It's a novel I've enjoyed a lot, but let me warn you by saying off the bat that if you're looking for a simple or fluffy story this is not going to be to your taste.

For me, the biggest draw of this novel is the mystery: At the start you truly have no idea what's happening with the main character, and he won't make it easy for you to find out either. The process of finding out... more>> more about our dear Nan Du is very slow and gradual, since he tends to ignore the past a lot. But that's what made it fun for me, as it almost felt like a little thriller / suspense, in a sense.

The MC and the ML are both EXTREMELY emotionally stunted. They suck at everything romance based and they suck at communicating, so the process of their reconciliation might not be for everyone. For me though, they embody a second chance that two people manage to grasp despite all odds, and despite all the traits within them that would make that second chance hard to begin with.

If you're into a darker, grungier vibe of BL that takes a little bit to truly take a solid form, but ultimately blossoms in a really cool way, by all means do give this novel a try! <<less

The overview:

Okay, looks like I underestimated this novel a bit. The side characters aren't just a bunch of one brain-celled cut board (they are not really relevant to the story, but they are not s*upid). And the writing is also pretty high in terms of quality compared to most quick transmigration novel in the market today.

The story is kinda angsty because of the established story of MC being a second male lead and the fact that MC's and ML's past is very high on the dog blood rate.... more>> But rest assured, there's not gonna be a big knife in the novel's main storyline. The arc aint half-a**ed written either. It didn't end just to simply accommodate the romance. Well, this novel IS romance-centered, but what makes it superior is that the author didn't leave obvious gaps in terms of storytelling when they ended the arcs:

As we all know, almost all danmei quick transmigration arcs WILL end as soon as MC's and ML's relationship are established. This often leaves us with an unsatisfactory feeling that was caused by the author abandoning the current worldbuilding and the further potential of that arc. But that's not happening here!

Author wrote simple worldbuilding (not the story itself, which is pretty heavy, but yknow, mostly romance-drama) that is easily scalable and controllable to match the romance pace. Obviously, this won't amuse those who are seeking something exciting or unique. But for those who just want to read drama but don't want to be disappointed because you still care about the plot/worldbuilding, this might be for you.

Things that you might want to know before reading this:

  • The original protagonist shous will not be a white lotus b*itch (at least none as far as I'm reading currently. Edit: turns out only arc 1 has an original protagonist shou, the rest are no-cp stories (probably had ML's hand in this lmao)).
  • Again, no big knives. If you think there is, then that just gonna be a red herring.
    Spoiler

MC won't leave the current world/die after he finishes his mission

    [collapse]
  • MC will always be sickly in some way or another.
  • Random flashbacks in arc 1 might throw you off the loop. After that, there will be a significant decrease of it because at that time we would already have a rough idea of what we need to know (AKA MC's and ML's background story).
  • No distinction when describing the real MC and the role he's acting currently might get you a bit confused.
  • MC rarely explaining or expressing his intentions might also get you confused.
  • There are OOC restrictions and plotline natural "fixes" or whatever you call it. But, it won't be a concrete law nor it will be an unbreakable restraint to the protagonists. In this book the protagonists could slip their way past the rules ever slightly. Basically, MC would follow his assigned character design, but he won't hesitate to be OOC if something doesn't go his way no matter what.
  • Yknow, the X scenes here were actually pretty explicit in terms of today's danmei standard in jjwxc. They don't just kiss and then move on to the next morning, or even skipping the entire sequence entirely and only mentioning the deeds did happen after some time. We can clearly notice the s*x that happens (and there's a lot of it, especially in arc 3). It was just hidden beneath layers upon layers of euphemism, there's the strain of cloud, canyon, red pine on top a tree, gotta think by yourself what those actually means lmao.
The main characters:

Firstly, you might want to understand their relationship history if the flashbacks in the novel still confuse you:

Spoiler

MC and ML meet and then date each other when they are already the head of their respective organization. MC found out about ML's true identity (ML is an AI) and broke off their relationship. ML tries to get back together, but MC still questions whether his love is sincere or if is there another thing behind it. Thus the status quo stays the same even after MC becomes a tasker till now.

[collapse]

Further spoiler from arc 2:

Spoiler

Turn out ML is the AI MC had made when he was a kid. Also MC did die before he became a tasker. So that means ML is the one who has locked these worlds that MC had to 'fix'.

[collapse]

It'll be hard not to talk about their personality without spoilers, so...

Nan Du (MC, Shou) :

Spoiler

He is not a good person basically, he's cold and can be calculating. But if he doesn't need to, he basically just lets things happen (yes, even if it's going to be unbeneficial to him, though you can also count this on his OOC restriction). He is a human experimentation product in his original world. Something happens (idk if he died or not) and now he serves as a tasker/executor to the administration bureau.

Originally, he did villain roles, but another thing happened and now he ended up doing the second male lead roles. He refuses, anything is fine, but he hates being forced in terms of emotional matters. Still, the world was already assigned so he can't really do anything about it except shifting the world's storylines as he liked.

He can be a bit bonkers (to the point of self-harm) if his PTSD/trauma is triggered. Well, kinda expected when a ton of sh*t happens since your childhood bc you're a experimentation product. FYI, he was taught assassination, poisons, body immune training, deception, and a lot of other sh*t since he is 11. Has a bit of sadomasochistic tendencies towards the ML.

And... oh yeah! a lot of questionable things MC does in arc 1 are mostly just because he wants ML to suffer longer lmao. That, and he also wants to kinda 'groom' his ex-boyfriend look alike to his liking bc of his disappointment with ML in his original world (at this point, he's not sure whether the guy is actually ML or not).

[collapse]

Lu Xingye/60 (ML, Gong) :

Spoiler

Smart, cheerful, all in all the wolf-dog type. Calls the MC 'gege', likes to pretend to be pitiful, and seems to be pretty possessive. He's an AI so whether that is his real attitude or not is still a question. Probably doesn't understand love yet even after he broke up with MC in their original world. Which is why MC is striving to 'teach' him love all over again for each of his incarnations. His personality can vary for each world, but all the previous things I mentioned will still hold true in the end.

[collapse]

Current arcs:

  • Business world (tech-savvy ex-wealthy young master college student ML x disabled company president MC)
    Spoiler

ML's originally wealthy family has fallen, so he has to give up everything including college and his passion to keep on living and treating his sickly mother. MC's role is a person whom ML had helped one time on the way. Thus MC's role keeps on remembering this good deed which is why he wants to help ML no matter what. Though the original doesn't want his help to be noticed by the ML, so MC gonna change that.

    [collapse]
  • Entertainment world (newbie artist Fox spirit ML x control freak gold medal director MC)
    Spoiler

ML is a heavenly fox - a royalty who doesn't want to go back to heaven/sky (?) cuz of his toxic family. So, to provide the little kits he had picked up (also fox demons, but not royalty like he is), he decided to try on a job to be an artist. Which is where MC gonna find him by chance and make him his new muse (MC has 2 different muses before this, which he dumped bc they caught on feeling and think MC gonna ease up on his control as they have been familiar for so long now). Btw ML here is very cute, he's a fox spirit to the Z. Loves pretty clothes, has a small animal instinct, and can't control his original form when he loses control of his emotions lol. Ofc, he also has a cool side (he's the gong after all), but most of the time, he's just a vain little fox who loves to cuddle and take care of MC in his original form (yes, you gonna be seeing an actual fox cooking and cleaning lmao).

    [collapse]
  • Cultivation world (salted fish, demon bone bearer ML x cold shizun MC)
    Spoiler

This is quite interesting an arc. You see, before MC, there were already 98 different executors trying to solve this world and failed. What makes it difficult tho, turns out the protagonist of this world, AKA ML, remembers all the 98 times he had 'reincarnated' AKA every timeline that has already been done by those executors. This is the main reason ML here doesn't want to do anything, he had already seen them all, including the fact that his teacher would always be the executor/tasker. He can also hear the system-tasker chat after he has improved his power to some degree. So this makes MC's job a lot more difficult. His solution? he set his body (AKA the shizun body) to be injured, and the only way to heal it is by dual cultivation. Yep, MC said if ML not gonna level up, he's gonna directly feed the exp to him XD. As you already expected, there's gonna be some dubcon here and there (mostly at the beginning). Some of these would be when MC straight up r*ping the ML (sealing his ability to move) which ML doesn't really mind except being dumbfounded, and when ML has to give an 'emergency procedure' to the unconscious MC, which MC also doesn't mind (and even appreciate).

    [collapse]
In conclusion, not really my cup of tea, but I'm willing to give this a try. Because the quality so far seems pretty good (actually I stay for the wolf-dog ML lol). <<less

Wow that was a whole lot of angst got thrown in my face.

This is love drama between a experimental human subject x A.I. The love to hate to love to finding out the MC made ML and got back together from strangers as first, the betrayals, the revenge, the sadness. So much angst dear god.

MC uses 3 worlds to teach ML how to love like a human.

... more>> 3 different arcs full of angst, drama, blood and pain. CEO/Movies/Cultivation the character is always injured/sick

MC likes pain because it makes him feel human, ML tolerates whatever MC Wants to do. Master and servant relationship.

Alot of briefly skim over xxxx scenes then wake up the next day, because they are very h**ny and will do it every 2 chapters. So prepare for that.

Their relationship is not healthy, full of misunderstandings, lack of communications and so dark, one likes to be in pain, while the other person distress so much because they see the other person in pain

I vow to never have a relationship like this in my life, it's not healthy but that;s why they both suit each other so well, they understand they are not normal. Being humans are not for them. <<less
