In both cases, there is no love and in arranged marriage of the original girl there is tremendous resentment, spite, and desire to punish the ML for simply being born a boy, being born before her, as the eldest son, and being given a chance to go to school by his parents who sacrificed (or temporarily suspended) everyone else's chance to study for that: their own chance for a minimal literacy as middle aged adults, and of the remaining three younger kids in the family. ... more>>

Then the FL transmigrates from 2022 to 1982 into the 23year old OG body and has a verbal agreement with the ML to stay married for a year before deciding to divorce or else. Thus, it is one year of a contract (and fake, unconsummated) marriage between two strangers, until ch 400. From the point of view if the ML, though, since he does not know that he does not owe her because she is not the OG, he needs a year for paying his wife back for the previous four years of neglect, to make living amends, to try his hand at being a husband. 

Some people rant that he is a freeloader or fell for the transmigrated FL's beauty and money, while neglecting his obese, depressed, mean, vindictive, money grubbing rapist wife for four years (the OG), and abandoning his true love (from Beijin) from the original book's original storyline. Basically, according to the original novel's storyline, or what our transmigrator recalls about it, he was working and studying in the most difficult university in China full time, several majors at a time (!), to pay for his studies and to send money home, and still had time to have a true love relationship outside his marriage with a girl from Beijin. There is no indication of him betraying his wife in that sense in this novel at all. In this novel, he is not switching between two women, because one is wealthier than another, or more beautiful, more knowledgeable, more skillful and capable, more educated, etc.. In this novel, it seems that it it his first love ever, and with his legit wife, the mother of his son.

Well, in this novel there is no true love from Beijin, i.e there is no predestined by the book previous love. There is one female student who likes the ML, but zero reciprocity on the ML' s part. There truly is is no love triangle.

So, the FL initially finds herself in an arranged marriage with an abcentee husband who is completing his university studies thousands of miles away, in Beijin. She uses this time to pull his family (2 parents, 2yoing siblings, one toddler son) out of abject poverty into brilliant prosperity, and the toddler - from a neglected and abused (by his oroginal mom, not anyonecelse) uneducated rural  child into a well cared for, good mannered, sweet, city boy. And once the ML comes back she first proposes him to divorce, but later agrees for one year trial married life with him. <<less
