Ummm... this one was just fine, I guess? I enjoyed the first ~40 or so chapters significantly more than the last ~50. It's hard for me to not take plots that involve psychology and therapy pretty personally, because those are subjects I care about quite a bit, so the... dual simplicity and inaccuracy (at times) of the psychological treatment in this one bothered me. Also, it very quickly became annoying how Jiang Xun was such a truly one-dimensional and Mary Sue type of character. Like, it's great that he was able to help and heal Gu Wei, but why was Gu Wei the only one who needed help/healing?? Their relationship felt very one-sided, especially considering... more>> Gu Wei's trauma was... well, not to pit certain types of mental damage against one another, but his really wasn't that bad, all things considered. If he was really so depressed and hurt by a tragic past I could see how it would be really satisfying as the reader for him to be taken care of properly for the first time in his life, but it's not like he wasn't already a successful star by the time Jiang Xun came along. Sure, he had "mild depression" (what??) and a tough relationship with his mom (not that he remembered it??), but it really seemed like he was handling everything fine. It just made XunWei's relationship feel really unbalanced and discomforting in that Jiang Xun had everything and was perfectly happy and all he wanted to do was f*ck Gu Wei after fixing his emotional state, and Gu Wei was juuuust damaged enough to require being taken care of and tending to for the rest of his life. I enjoyed this book at first, but the gaps in their relationship became super clear as I kept reading and made me feel more and more uncomfortable, which is why I won't be reading the six extra chapters after the main story. 5/10.

Reading list comments: Oh, I can already tell that this one is a classic. Let me just emphasize first and foremost that I love how it's a modern-day entertainment industry meets esports novel that doesn't utilize the "only gay for You" trope!! It's so gratifying that both the main characters are just gay! Just normal! The premise is pretty simple, but the way the author turns it on its head and pushes the limits of secondhand embarrassing misunderstandings/scenarios is so fun! Basically, a member of a fairly popular idol group and an extremely skilled e-sports player are set up by their parents, but, well, quite a few hijinks ensue leading to a ton of silly misunderstandings between the two main characters. I know a lot of people don't like the misunderstandings or miscommunication tropes, but I think they work really well here because (so far) none of the miscommunication has led to arguing or breaking up or anything like that. Jiang Xun has a really good grasp on his Gu Wei and understands very quickly how many worms he has for brains T_T <3 speaking of which, Gu Wei is a very simple and pure person, to the point where it might irritate some readers, but I think it's actually really endearing >~< it makes me want to wrap him up and give him absolutely oodles of face kisses! Overall, this is a really sweet and entertaining read that I'm thoroughly enjoying! <<less

Uhhh... this one was okay! I only devoted a couple of days to it as it really was very short (61 chapters plus one extra) so I'm not feeling too picky, but it really wasn't anything to write home about. The entire transmigration premise is very, very loosely held together by MC occasionally talking to his system, but these interactions are few, far between, and truly very rarely ever helpful, if ever. The story accumulates in a harried ten-chapter array of multiple kidnappings and daring escapes (during none of which he references back to said system, btw), which were pretty exciting but made absolutely no sense in the context of the rest of the story which is truly just a simple slice of school life journey. I also felt a little uncomfortable with how ML was 30 and falling in love with a high school student, even if he was of age or close to it at that point. Overall, the author could have totally done away with the pointless transmigration premise (maybe just give the main character amnesia or something?), dumped the rebirth and age gap, and interspersed the final conflict throughout the rest of the story a little more subtly and cleverly and my rating would definitely go up - as things are, however, I wasn't very impressed. That's not to say that it isn't an enjoyable story - it actually is! The characters are two-dimensional, but not necessarily in a bad way. They have some cute interactions and seem very well suited for each other, and I also really appreciated MC having two dads as well as the author not implementing the s*upid "I'm not gay, I just love you as a person" trope for the main romance. But I just wasn't very invested in anything about this story - it only successfully helped me pass the time. If all you're looking for is some sugar to do just that, then I recommend this one! Basically, the story of a few scrappy kids growing up together through highs and lows and seeking the way back home against all odds. There... more>> are hardly words to describe how much I enjoyed this webnovel. I'm a sucker for xianxia any day, but the world that priest created in this case was especially charming, somehow. In the first place, one of her strong suits is the found family trope and she is at her best here - the bonds formed between the five main characters were so palpable and genuine, and really sweet to behold. I really liked how it wasn't the typical biological family set up - like, they aren't quite siblings, and no one is the father or mother figure, but they are at the same time inextricably linked to one another and would do anything for each other in a way that felt really grounded and heartfelt. I don't want to comment on the plot too much, as the reading process of this one included a whopping four translations, one of which was into English from a Vietnamese translation of the original Chinese, but I will say that what I did catch of it was (as usual) overall superb - it was a bit wild sometimes but never failed to keep me on my toes. And in terms of the romance, well, I came into this primed for the found family and plot to take precedence, but was pleasantly surprised by what I think is one of priest's sweetest and most wholesome romances ever. Anyone who says this book isn't romantic is lying - Cheng Qian and Yan Zhengming's tentative, tender progression from childhood friends to lovers nearly brought me to tears several times. The additional tension the sect-leader-sect-brother side of their relationship brought to it was just salacious enough; it provided angst, without being nearly as intense nor problematic as some of priest's...other works (*cough* Sha Po Lang *cough*). I really loved how both CQ and YZM came to terms with their feelings for each other on their own time - there was no feeling of either one of them being pressured into acquiesing to a romantic relationship, which is sometimes an issue I find with priest (and danmei in general, but I digress). No, there wasn't a lot physical connection displayed in the book, but if that's what you're reading danmei for, priest is always going to disappoint - and anyway, that's not what real romance is, right? So this novel, in my opinion, has everything - a fun and sometimes heartwrenching plot, wonderfully strong main characters, eloquent secondary characters, humor, angst, a beautiful romance, found family, and a fascinating perspective on the world of xianxia and cultivation practices. And, to top it all off, a pretty ideal happy ending for a priest book! I couldn't recommend this one enough - which, speaking of recommendations, I especially recommend it if you enjoyed Tong Qian Kan Shi by musuli, or I recommend TQKS if you enjoyed this one! 9/10. <<less

This one was a real treat! Sequel to/spinoff of Qi Ye starring Zhou Zishu and a new love interest he encounters along his wanderings (hehe)... more>> and encounters throughout the jianghu, Wen Kexing. I heartily enjoyed this work, far more than the webnovel it was born from. If I were to compare the main couple to any other of priest's, they would definitely be similar to Kou Tong and Huang Jinchen from You Yi - that type of "manly couple" who instantly see themselves in one another and click on a level other people just can't understand OwO I always liked Zhou Zishu back while reading Qi Ye and was rather saddened by his somewhat tragic storyline, so it was really nice to see him get his happy ending. And Wen Kexing absolutely blew me away as a character as well; he's hyped up to an insane degree amongst fans of TYK as sort of a salacious flirt, so I wasn't sure if I was going to like him all that much, but I was definitely pleasantly surprised by how much tamer and more genuine he came across in the actual story. He is so much more complicated than people generally give him credit for!! I quite liked the side characters, too - the found family of it all really got to me, especially considering the untimely deaths of a few of the most instantaneously likable characters introduced over the course of this story T_T Damn you priest for making me cry!! *shakes fist* I liked the plot too, though it was a little difficult to follow considering, again, this was translated by three different people who chose different titles and translations for various aspects. I also felt a bit overwhelmed by the enormous number of people involved in the plot who I felt were introduced quite rapidly and thus were difficult to keep track of - I'm sure plenty of my own confusion is due to my own shortcomings, though, and I'd like to do my own reread or research to further understand the plot rather than blame priest's writing right off the bat. Overall, this was a fun, funny, and not infrequently heart-wrenching ride that I highly recommend for anyone into wuxia and martial arts settings! Only, please do read Qi Ye first. 8.5/10. <<less

Finished the main story of this one a little while - my previous comments still hold up! I really enjoyed this book, though admittedly it got a little repetitive near the end with the constant and somewhat random dramatic occurrences that really only seemed to happen for the most part in order to make the reader gasp and quiver. It's a really funny and engaging story with good, believable characters and a vast array of MLM couples (along with the rare but coveted WLW side couple!!) that each have their own charm. The main characters are really likable, enough so that I wanted to keep reading even if the plot got a little dicey. Previous comments: *keyboard smash* oh my god this novel is AMAZING so far! I read all 74 translated chapters of the novel and all 37 translated manhua chapters as well in one day. The adaptation is beautiful but it can't compare to the novel - a company president commits su*cide and transmigrates into his favorite webnovel as the ultimate villain and vows to look after the protag instead of hurt him in order to survive. Xiao Yuan is insanely funny and sweet to the point where I wouldn't have cared if his character didn't change or grow at all just because I like him so much right away, but he's definitely growing up and learning throughout the course of the novel in an unexpected and heartbreaking way. I love Yan Heqing as well, his character was really different from what I initially expected but he's surprisingly unique and likeable. The side characters and couples are wonderful as well (especially Hong Xiu and Pingyang/Ningyong - my girls T_T). A hidden gem for real, it has everything - angst, to romance, to knee-slapping humor!
