Rosén Walker was jailed for mu*dering her husband at the age of 17.

Having crushed the pride of the Imperial Army with two jailbreaks, she is captured again a year later and is sentenced to life imprisonment.

On a boat going to Monte Island, where only the vilest prisoners were gathered, another jailbreak is planned…

“What is your crime?”

“… I’m innocent.”

“Only a handful of prisoners would honestly admit that they have committed a crime.”

Ian Connor, a blunt and upright ideologist, who is in charge of her deportation, doesn’t give any leeway.

“Don’t say anything useless, just answer what you are asked.”

Rosén, the Empire’s best jailbreaker,

and Ian Connor, a young war hero who is loved by the entire empire.

Their story unfolds on the ship heading to the worst prison on earth!

Now, you shall be the judge. Is Rosén Walker a liar? Or is she not?

Hello, this is Translator Wook of Travis Translations. If you're reading this, I assume you're somewhat interested in reading this series. Thank you very much for your time.

To start it off, this is not the story of the typical rebirth-and-salvation-villainess trend nowadays. If you wish for something fresh, proceed. If you don't, avoid. Just because it's not your cup of tea doesn't mean it deserves low ratings.

I honestly can't tell you much about the story because I read as I translate, and unlike my other projects, I wish to keep... more>> it that way. However, from what I heard, it'll bring us to a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

The story is being told from Rosen's, our main character, point of view, and let me tell you that she's quite a sass and a hilarious one. She's different from other main characters that I've read before, and so far I'm liking the novelty. Not much can be said about Ian, the male lead, at the moment, aside from that he's your usual cold love interest and a war hero. There are more than meets the eyes from both characters and I can't wait to find out.

All in all, since everyone has their own taste, I can only say, give this a try, and see you later!

"Let us be kind to each other as the heart is already fragile, life is already hard, and this translator still wants to live a few more years."

Wook, signing out. <<less

My 2nd favorite novel. Cannot recommend it enough to people who want to break away from the cliches and look for meaningful plots. The author of this novel had used many references for this with Thousand Splendid Suns being one of them. It actually had so many plot points of "easter eggs" to Thousand Setting Suns that there are some Koreans claiming plagiarism. Whether it was really plagiarism or not, the story was skillfully written and while there are many hints to the referenced novel, it feels different... more>> enough for me to feel it's not plagiarism. <<less

It's still early in the story, but I love how it explores power, class, gender and truth. We have a world where magic is being supplanted by science, which plays out in sexual/gender relationships and politics as well. Is Rosen a witch? A mu*derer? Is her jailer a war hero? A broken man who didn't protect the young men who fought with him? The power dynamics are in flux and various scenarios are in play. I'm enjoying the ambiguity and the characters. No idea where the plot is going, but... more>> I'm sailing along with it. <<less

I rarely give 5 stars so that says something.

The author did a good job at keeping me in wonder of what was the truth and the lies until the end, I don't mean just the FL.

Also, and I think that's the real point here... it's more about the why than the conclusion.

... more>> It's like that saying, that the travel itself is more important than the destination.

As for said destination, I can safely say it's more than satisfactory for me.

The parts after the ending enrich things a lot too. I would have liked more page time for Emily but it's ok.

As for the characters, they're welll written. They feel real, even some of the extras (like the prison woman that liked the FL), which is not a common sight, at least in my reading list up until now.

As for the translation, it's great, so I'm glad they took it.

I can't really say anything in terms of negatives so i'll cut it here. <<less

You know what's amazing about this book? The entire story takes place in a moment of time on that ship. In present time, we basically never see off of that ship, yet the story is still so exhilarating. The author gets an A+ in how she incorporated flashbacks into the plot so smoothly too.

The only minor gripe I had was that sometimes you couldn't tell who was speaking, or some words were written vaguely that it causes the reader to misunderstand what's happening in the plot (only really an issue... more>> in the beginning though). However, there is one scene of dialogue I would like to point out where the author actually utilizes this unknown-speaker tactic because it was simply a masterpiece to read.

Spoiler

"... I carried a picture of you from the newspaper."

"... "

"I denied it at the time. I didn't have anyone, but you were famous, and I could see you, so I held onto you... I thought I was just broken and crazy. But now I know. It wasn't that complicated. I... "

"... "

"I just wanted to meet you."

__________

In this scene it's really vague as to who's speaking, but the beauty of it is that this dialogue applies to not just Rosen, but Ian as well. I do think this was Rosen speaking at the time though, which only makes this next scene feel so more much.

__________

"You really don't know?"

Instead of an obvious answer, a question came back. He hugged her again and kissed the nape of her neck. The moment his lips, chapped from jumping into the sea to rescue her, touched her skin, Rosen had no choice but to admit it.

That she already knew the answer.

His dreamy voice rang in her ears.

"I just wanted to meet you."

First of all, I'd like to thank the translators for their marvelous job. Each sentence had a beautiful and deep meaning, which couldn't be conveyed for us readers if not by their hard work in translating the novel.

When it comes to the story, the plot really explores domestic violence in a way you can't help but feel enraged and desperate, asking yourself why the world has to be so unfair. More than once, my eyes were filled with tears. Still, Rosan is a breath of fresh air when it comes... more>> to protagonists and I love her for being a skillful liar. On the other hand, Ian was an endearing love interest, I really appreciated how their emotional connection was build through the years of their lives, even before knowing each other.

5 stars fall short on describing this novel. I'd give it 10, to say the least. I really liked how the story progressed, mainly in a ship, and how it ended. I wish I could see a movie adaption out of this. <<less

This is a hidden gem, for real.

The plot from the synopsis was so simple that I hesitate to read this at first... but I’m glad I did. It was a really beautiful story between two scarred people who soothe and love each other in this world. I really love the interactions between the two. Not the fluffy type of romance story but it was so well written that I could feel the feelings between the two. It touched my heart <3

I’d say this one is totally recommended to read! It... more>> was not a very long story, and it’s completely translated - another thing I’m really grateful for since I don’t have to wait long to read. I think this is one of the novels with the real definition of being a well written novel. And well translated of course~ thank you for the author and the translation team for this! Loveee <<less

I am in love with this novel, all the characters that have come up to now are interesting, the rhythm of the story is the right one and without a doubt its best characteristic is that it leaves you eager to know more about what will happen with the protagonists
