When Cheng Yao saw Qian Heng for the first time, she couldn’t possibly understand why he was nicknamed ‘industry cancer’.

The man in front of her looked brilliant. He was handsome and tall, and his eyes were particularly charming.

‘Nonsense! How could someone so good-looking like him be industry cancer?’ She thought.

That was until she was severely beaten by socialism – When she tried to persuade her handsome boss on taking a case of public rights protection, her boss gave her a blank look.

“What do you think a successful lawyer should do?”

“Work with passion?”

“What’s my surname?”

“Qian,* of course!”

“Therefore, I will only work for cash.”

When she asked for a raise, her boss was unconvinced. And at the KTV party he participated in for the first time, he made sure to give her a “reality check”.

It was hosted in a small theater. At that night, she had drunk too much. Cheng Yao ran to the stage and picked up the microphone.

“What’s up with Qian Heng? This guy’s amazing! Isn’t he impressive? I must have gone insane to let him call me ‘baby’ that day! I, Cheng Yao, must make this clear! WHAT! GOES! AROUND! COMES! AROUND!”

No one could forget Qian Heng’s terrible expression that night…

But what they didn’t know was that the next day, Qian Heng pushed Cheng Yao into a corner, and said with an unreadable expression, “Were you satisfied last night, baby?”

*the character for the last name “Qian” also means “money”

Reading this felt like joining a crash course on Chinese marriage law. The amount of details (mostly intricate legal details, mind you), vivid characters, and highly realistic plotlines make this an enjoyable and worthwhile read. It's been a while since I've read a romance webnovel with real substance that can get your brain going. This is definitely not a cliched shallow boss-assistant love story like what a lot of reviewers have said. The author is most likely either a law student or graduate.

Since it’s just have a few chapters I ended up doing mtl. Very lighthearted and I do love the MC. And omg everyone, she knows how to swim. Lol at this point, swimming is amazing since most of these cnovels have the females not knowing how to swim. The male lead isn’t very likeable but the MC is funny enough on her own

One of the best modern novels I've ever read. The legal aspect is so well done and pondered. The tecnicality is great, the author def knows what they're talking about.

They legimatelly reflect about aspects of legal and personal ethics, and the chinese legal system. The fact you'l have to defend bad people, how far can you get involved, possible injustices of the system and much more. They present things in a very gray way.

Besides, when I first started I thought the ML would be a classic cold hearted mean a**hole,... more>> that'd treat her like shit, but no, he's a TOTAL DIVA AND I LOVE IT. He's very delicate, proud and smug. Much of the comedy has him as central piece, (he is calculating and smart too, though). I love his characterization, it feels very fresh.

The FL has very good character development too. She goes through the highs and lows of the profission, and gradually but surely evolves in confidence, and expertise.

The banter is impeccable lmao.

Their relationship progression is also great. He's not some overpowering I''l give-you-all boss, he sort of reminds of the ML from ''the heartbeat at the tip of your tongue'' in the professional aspect, he lets her do her own things, make mistakes and learn.

I reccomend MTL-ing since it's very easy to understand. <<less

I love bickering couples and my goodness this novel definitely perfected it!

The details on legalities are enlightening, few jargons and a lot of understandable text for a layman’s benefit.

The author’s excellent execution provided a vivid picture of the characters (all characters), the struggles reach a satisfactory resolution, and the romance is ideal for the mature audience—not due to R-18 scenes but because of how the main characters handled their feelings. Although there are numerous understandings but these are mostly for comedic effect. Both characters are aware (for the most part)... more>> of their feelings, their desires, their bottomlines. There is no over the top angst scenes or drawn out and repeated sentimentalities, an admirable feat to be honest.

The only bad thing in this novel is that it is too short but overall, I think this still played well because there’s no filler and even paced.

I can’t wait for the English translation! <<less

To summarize, the title is very apt.

I feel very conflicted bc half of me is like this should be a 5 star and other half just wants to give it a 3. Make your decision, but either way you can't go wrong trying this book.

Pros:

  • The ML is actually more feminist than the MC
  • This book imo is a feminist book (if you find that offensive than wow you're questionable)
  • Provides an interesting perspective on relationships, marriages and law
  • Therefore very insightful
  • Main leads both grow
  • Although I will say what I say in the cons, in the end, their romance is fully equal and compelling to read
  • There is justice, like I said the title is apt
Cons:

  • Although the book is so insightful, the author uses every single romance trope (except amnesia) to get them together
  • Spoiler

ex. Slipping into his arms, him seeing the nickname on her phone, accidentally texting him, accidental cond*ms gift, co-inhabiting for an "ex", him only easing up on his opinion STARTING with her amazing cooking skills, her being beautiful but doesn't know it situations

    [collapse]
  • The only reason why I gripe with this is because is a lot of unnecessary romcom elements in an otherwise well written book - it just feels like it doesn't fit. It's just that the author could have just done better to make them get together more naturally feeling
The romance once they get together feels really smooth and well written, especially at the end so I honestly think everyone should read this.

Good pacing. Decent research here about the law and different practitioners' approaches to it. MC is determined and spunky. ML has good evolution and really makes the effort. Their struggles are believable and you can see both sides.

I've read a lot of novels and until recently, I've only lurked around here but this novel made me register an account just to make a review.

I MTL-ed the entire thing and it was worth it. I really like how the relationship and the character development progressed and although the ML may seem a bit unbearable at first, he actually has a quite decent character. The FL also showed so much growth and although not perfect, she is capable and hard-working. She did not blindlessly adhere to ML's views and... more>> she stuck to her own moral beliefs when it mattered.

Morality and Law was also not described to be purely black or white and in my opinion, the novel did a good job at expressing a gray area between the two extremes. There were times where the cases irked me a bit but I do admit that I have an extreme point of view when it comes to the topic of

infidelity (which is involved in a lot of cases they handled)

but as I said earlier, not everything is black and white and I appreciate the professionalism that the ML and

the FL displayed.

Overall, this was a very refreshing read. It may have been light-hearted but it also gives you a lot to think about and learn from. <<less

I read up to the current tled point then couldn't resist MTLing it, and.... Honestly probably one of the best modern romances I've read. Normally I'm squicky about office romances, esp subordinate/boss relationships, but this one executes so well, esp since the ML - get this - *grows*. It's not just about the FL growing. I'm a big fan, tropey romcom cliches or not. Will enjoy reading it again translated as both TL-sans are doing an excellent job. This is the kind of thing I would binge watch the heck... more>> out of several times. <<less

Boss and assistant love story??? Haha.. I MTL this to finish. Before, I read a few chapter and felt not to continue, I am prejudice about the fact that a boss with millions will rent in the apartment that is cheap for him? But I was wrong. I am very wrong to judge it very fast. So I tried again and got hooked in the end I MTL-ed it. The story is funny and cute. ML and FL bickering is funny and witty. I super like the story.. Its not... more>> too much fluff but I think it has a realistic feel on it. This can be considered a good read for me 🤘☺ try it! <<less

A work place romance grows through constant bickering, debating, pushing each other's limits, and thoughtful reexamination of themselves and each other through an episodic narrative that really highlights a lot of interesting and less talked about issues in marriage. And if you like romantic heart stopping tropes that we all know are silly while still enjoying them, this books has them all.

I really like both the lead characters in this. Even when I don't agree with an action or statement they make, they feel real and three dimensional. The world... more>> building and secondary characters are equally well developed.

This is a very complex and lighthearted romance. I really recommend this to anyone who enjoys bickering couples working through their daily lives at a job that constantly showcases how relationships can go very bad. <<less

Hilarious, sweet, fluffy and cute romance novel.

The first half of the story mostly about the 2 main leads bickering and arguing each other, it was hilarious and cute. The growth of the MC Cheng Yao.

I liked that how their relationship journey with up and down. They are starting from unequal relationship between boss and subordinate but they get through all the way to the end.

I think the most fun of this novel is to read it by yourself.

Its a great read, very much cheesy and tropy at times but love the growth of both characters. They made the workplace a realistic place where adults act like adults which nowadays is actually refreshing.

Thanks for the effort of translators named Foxaholic.

Storywise I like it. The flow of the story makes me more inrerested. I like the slowly bickering of the couple. The push and pull tactics in their lovestory is so strong wc make the chemistry of the leads more adorable.

I hope the trans will be finished fast. Thanks again. I rated tjis novel 5 coz I love it, not completed yet though.

Wow, I really enjoy the leads' journey to fall with each other. The cases presented and explained in the story are pretty enlightening too. I feel like my awareness on law is quite increasing and it gives me a new mindset on this particular topic/issues related to it. Thank you, it's a brilliant read for me :)

I loved it! It was very interesting but very short.

I wish I got to explore more about their world and relationships. Recently I have been thinking of pursuing law as a major and while reading this novel, it motivated me a lot to pursue law as a career.

Anyway, I loved ML's personality a lot. Maybe because in the sea of thousands of cold and domineering Male leads, he was I guess cool? And I found his character a little more humane than other perfect ml.

Don't miss out on this novel.... more>> And mtl is also pretty understandable.

Goodbye, Namasthe! <<less
