Chen Fan’s father sent him to the Spring Autumn Sect when he reached a suitable age to learn martial arts. For close to three years, he was often a target for bullying due to his lack of talent. He was helpless about it and had no choice but to accept his fate, until one day he gets struck by lightning and everything changes.

Things weren’t smooth-sailing from then on, however. Every three years, a grand event is held in Spring Autumn Sect and some weaker members will be expelled from the sect. Chen Fan is lagging far behind his peers and has to catch up quickly or he’ll be in trouble. It won’t be easy with many people standing in his way. To be stronger than them all, Chen Fan engages in both body and qi cultivation in a world where body cultivation has long gone into decline, and he will need to endure much greater pains than others to obtain the corresponding strength. On his quest to great strength, he will run into many dangerous situations, but luck is also often accompanied with the dangers. Follow Chen Fan on his journey to becoming the strongest martial artist!

Official Blurb

Martial artists refine their bodies and temper their souls. They seize the luck of heaven and earth to strengthen their own bodies, seeking immortality. The Tianwu Continent was a world where martial artists vied for supremacy. The strong were like kings, overlooking the world, while the weak were like ants, living an ignoble existence.

Chen Fan was born with a dantian hard as iron, and his meridians blocked, making him tr*sh in the path of martial arts. However, he benefited from a disaster, gaining enormous luck. A trapped dragon rises to the sky, straight through the clouds. Experiencing numerous deadly situations, he rises step by step and ascends to the peak of martial arts.

DO NOT READ

I just finished this novel and as a fellow webnovel enjoyer I'm seriously warning you not to waste your time. The ending of this novel is officially the absolute worst ending I've ever read in my entire life (Yes. Even worse than I Am Overlord). I actually enjoyed the first 1500-ish chapters of this novel. It's basically every tr*shy cultivation cliche rolled up into one, and I enjoyed that. Setting aside the ending, I'd give this a low 3. Fun to read if you have nothing better to... more>> do, but certainly not something you'd read for a good story.

Unfortunately I can't ignore the ending so this gets a big fat 1 (because zero isn't an option). I think the author literally got tired and just gave up. About 50 chapters before the novel ends you start to notice some insane levels of pacing. Just to put into perspective the level of insanity I'm talking about (story ending spoilers) :

Spoiler

Literally only 12 chapters before the end of the story, our MC is on his way to participate in generic cultivation novel world tournament. Out of nowhere, in the middle of MC's fight with some random fodder, the final boss just invades the entire universe and starts annihilating everyone. MC goes to defend his homeworld and suddenly stumbles upon the final piece of a map that turns into a memory crystal that reminds him of his past life as the supreme god protector of everything. The map leads him to his old god corpse so he merges with it. After he merges (100 year timeskip) he realizes the final boss defeated, crippled, and ens*aved the whole universe (including all of MCs friends/family/lovers). He fights the final boss, "struggles, " wins, and then uses his super awesome magic god powers to fix everyone's cultivations and then all the final boss's minions get killed and peace is restored and he's worshipped as the god king of the universe. The End. Oh wait no MC also receives a random "invitation" through a spontaneous wormhole at the end (literally just appears in front of him while he's relaxing) and he smiles at it mysteriously and goes "so that's how it is". I think the author was trying to set up a crossover/expanded universe/sequel but given his track record with this story I doubt that will go anywhere

If reading that gave you a stroke I apologize, but unironically that's exactly how it happened. I haven't even addressed all the treasures, relationships, grudges, and other story setups that go completely unresolved or just get abandoned. Seriously go read something (anything) else.

P.S. If you're curious about a harem:

Spoiler

There's only 2 girls. A 3rd one was set up at some point but the author abandoned that. We only really get romantic development (and not much) with the 2nd love interest because the 1st one gets taken away by a higher power twice (the 2nd time happens literally immediately after MC rescues her from the first higher power). MC never gets to do the rescue arc for the 2nd higher power because they get annihilated by the final boss (see aforementioned spoiler shenanigans). She's just spontaneously reunited with him at the end of the story.
