Lin Shuicheng was born with good looks. He had a red tear mole at the corner of his eye that was particularly tempting.

The first time Fu Luoyin saw him, he brought him home without even asking his name.

Other people said that Second Young Master Fu had fallen in love at first sight, but only Fu Luoyin knew that the boy before him didn’t need a name, because he was fated to stay by his side as a mere substitute.

Afterwards, he gradually realized that Lin Shuicheng had never asked his name, either.

(Once he knew the truth, the gong shed tears.)

Passerby 1: Are you sure that the research institute’s brilliant, outstanding, stunning top student who’s skilled in the boardroom and the kitchen should really be…your substitute? I recommend seeing an optometrist.

Childhood Friend 2: What? He’s a substitute? That’s wonderful—if you don’t take him seriously, I will! Sister-in-Law, please take a look at me!

Counselor 3: Someone like you wants to sleep with my student? Hah.

Father 4: Darling, we’re not worthy of him, so let him go.

The cold, elite gong, who was a winner since birth and rich as a small country: “…”

#The whole world wants to cuckold me
#Everyone’s persuading me to break up
#Damn, he doesn’t even remember my birthday
#He actually spelled my name wrong
#He doesn’t love me!

MC's situation is very pitiful. Although he is very good at studying and researching, he is tormented by helplessness.

Spoiler

His lover died and disappeared like thin air. Then both his Father died and his younger brother became a vegetable due to mysterious forces. All information about the Boyfriend also disappeared. Without memories, no one can prove that this person ever existed. Last time

and the only thing was a random note with information about his boyfriend's cemetery address.'

[collapse]

Dog blood plot.

Spoiler

He used someone else to replace this ex-boyfriend - Chu Shihan, who happened to be Fu Louyin, Chu Shihan's biological younger brother, whose father's last name was Fu and whose mother's last name was Chu.

[collapse]

Continuing dog blood:

Spoiler

Fu Louyin uses Lin Shuichen as his lover's replacement - Xiao -------

Basically, both have no emotional foundation. MC is clearly aware that what he did was wrong, he also knows that ML has no feelings for him. ML would have been an as*hole because if it weren't for the dog blood episode mentioned above, MC would definitely have been hurt.

ML also has a pitiful situation. His personality is quite sharp, stubborn, arrogant.

I'm tired of the high-level secrets of all parties, from ML's family, MC and ML himself and his friends. Overlapping secrets only worsen the situation and misunderstandings. So, the author did something interesting.

In addition, the author is very passionate about creating scientific concepts. They seem premium to my mtl. But I appreciate it.

More dog blood

Spoiler

MC is a suspect in the investigation process, related to Chi Shihan's case and the cause of his father and younger brother's accident. So after that, Father ML ended the investigation process to prevent suspicion on the MC.

[collapse]

Messages related to the Butterfly Effect and plot elements related to quantum entanglement. Sigh. If you want to understand the story more deeply, you should refer to these two concepts. <<less

This story is so tricky and contradictory, because everything is both as it seems and not. As I read the sweet fluff my heart felt like it was being stabbed, and as I read the ML being a bastard I laughed in pity for him. For so long I read with the pain of impending doom, yet when it came it was relieving. The setting is so dog blood but the actual story is so much more than that. If they hadn't had any previous relationships they would have had... more>> the perfect relationship (it's still pretty sweet in the end).

Spoiler

The ML thinks that he's using the MC as a substitute and the MC is his kept man; the MC is using the ML as a substitute for his dead boyfriend and thinks they're just s*x partners. The ML thinks the MC has fallen in love with him; actually, he's the one falling in love, and the MC is just good to him out of guilt. Also, the MC has no need to be a kept man, he's too powerful lol.

[collapse]

Actually, their actions are so scummy but at the same time they treat each other well. The ML would be a scum going in a counterattack novel but he's actually quite caring. He's even a cat s*ave hahaha. The MC is so gentle and considerate but he's actually so cold in the first half.

But they're so good together, you can see that they're what the other needs and they just fit each other so much. Like the MC has the kind of consideration the ML needs, for example taking care of him in a way his family didn't, cooking food good for his stomach problem, etc. And the ML supporting the MC; there's this moment I love where the MC is stuck on an important problem and the ML talks him through it with a totally different perspective. It's like if you spent your whole life trying to pick a lock and then someone comes and smashes it open.

This actually takes place like 300 years in the future, the worldbuilding is kind of vaguely sci-fi. Maybe like if Star Trek was only set on Earth? I think the relationship is a 5/5 and the rest is a 4. The bs science and academia bothered me, it kind of felt like the author had never been in a setting like that or done any research into how the military and politics realistically work. Other than that the story and characters were good. If you're up to MTL than give this a try! <<less

This novel is so much more than meets the eye. The title is actually a little underwhelming than the story itself.

I got so much more than I signed up for. I was only for the romance but whole thing got me hooked.

The story only gets so much better as it goes. Transitions and planning executions are well done and smooth. It didn’t feel unnatural or abrupt when the focus switches. And the details and pacing, whether the romance part or the plot itself, are exquisite.

A pity I wanted more of... more>> Su Yu’s and the parallel’s extras.. <<less

The romance part is just okay for me. They were able to fall in love with each other because they have more chance with each other (proximity, already in relationships, probably bc it's fate, etc). There's nothing wrong with that, I am just more into hot stuff like enemy-to-lover and master-disicple lmao.

However I can't put down this book after the plot thicken!

The author called her work pseudo sci-fi. I don't understand sci-fi much, but this one is easy to understand and for laymen/amateur like me this story is impressive and... more>> meticulous enough to impress me. There are some small plot holes that's not too important to me, and it just feel being too busybody to care about them.

For sci-fi lovers and experts you should come to judge the sci-fi part and write a review. Although you have to wait until the middle of the story for the plot to be more serious. And you have to be okay with the "substitute" stuff.

Subsitute story is not my thing but I can just laugh it off in this story because the shou is too excellent lol and bc of others spoilery reasons.

Not really spoiler; additional info for those who worried:

Spoiler

And by the time it became a problem later to someone, the plot/mystery was too interesting that it didn't bother me. Morever the gong isn't that scummy imo. He's not the actual scum who force the shou to act exactly like his white moonlight. He let MC did his things and even helped him A LOT and tried to understand him. However there are still some stuff I dislike from him. Personally I would rate him 3.5/5

[collapse]

So in conclusion it's not a scary book for those who dislike substitute, dogblood, or scummy gong. At least the dogblood is there for a reason and it's not exploited by the author. It's just the right amount and it will be weird if it doesn't exist.

Well for romance lover, beside the sci-fi, the first part has a lot of story in academia setting, which is also an important part of the main plot. I think the romance is well balanced and also a very major part. You can't delete either. So it's still a good read for you guys.

I really recommend this novel unless you are really allergic to substitute or sci-fi. Also what I think is easy to understand might be not easy for you to understand. We all have different strength and weakeness.

Personal rating:

MC 4.5/5 | ML 3/5 | Plot 5/5 | Friends 3.5/5 | Antagonistic Roles 2.5/5

Lastly, uuh well uh I should warn people that I often write reviews with less emotion than when I actually read the story. I will just tell you that I shed real tears at different points of time when reading this novel. Some stuff are just too sad however I don't like calling every sad stuff dogblood as it feels like undervaluing stuff sometimes. Like why calling tragedy dogblood when it already being called tragedy? Stuff that make me cry in this book is just tragic to me, especially the family stuff.

Spoiler

There are some TW-worthy contents near the climax and at the end of the book that I am sure TL will put later however be careful when you read MTL by yourself. You can just guess through of what you've already read.
