Before his death, Yu Bai gained memories from his past life. He discovered that his son, Yu Shuoxing, was the main antagonist in a previous-life novel about a fierce business battle. Yu Shuoxing grew up without a mother. At the age of three, his father died in a car accident, and he was sent to a private orphanage. In the orphanage, he was bullied by the director and other children of the same age. This led to the development of a dark, selfish, and ruthless personality. In the end, he met a tragic death on the streets, as depicted in the novel.

As Yu Bai lay in the emergency room, he thought to himself, “I feel like I can still fight for my life.” However, although he was saved, he lost his money and job in the process. Yu Bai looked at his penniless self and his pitiful son by his side and made a determined decision. He couldn’t let his child suffer, no matter how difficult the circumstances.

[3:38 PM] Drawing on the culinary skills from the past life that he remembered, Yu Bai started a small food stall and worked tirelessly from dawn to dusk to earn money. The result… Yu Bai’s food stall quickly became popular on the entire street and became the favorite of everyone from grandmothers in their eighties to three-year-old toddlers! With the help of influential people, it didn’t take long for Yu Bai’s food stall to evolve into a small restaurant and eventually a chain of stores. His son also became the beloved star among the neighborhood and the children, growing up surrounded by love.

Yu Bai thought that he and his son would live a happy and fulfilling life together. However, he accidentally discovered something. That man who couldn’t do anything right, always acted spoiled, and always came to him for food—was secretly the benefactor who helped him expand his food business?! Moreover, this benefactor was also blood-related to his son and another father to him?!

For the first time, Yu Bai realized that he had a blood connection with his son. This benefactor, Ji Rongyu, who would compete with him for food and secretly scheme to drive a wedge between him and his son, turned out to be his son’s other father! Fantastic! Finally, he had a reason to give his mischievous son a taste of “love” education!

Uhh... It's okay it some points however it's too wordy for me.. I've been reading cooking and farming with mpreg this past few weeks and I would say that the food descriptions and the unnecessary words to describe what the characters are doing made my head aches especially also the jumping timelines and POV. I don't know which days is it or is connected to the previous half of the chapter because the jumping of narratives isn't connected to the first half then it would only be explained in the... more>> next chapter so it made my head dizzy reading it. The ML is said to be the best investor yet it's been about how many chapters and yet didn't invest on MC. It's a slow romance but it made me confused they're acting ambiguous yet they weren't really close there's no visible development between the two only the always bickering of the ML and the child. Then the child is too scheming and he's just three but let's just say he is just mischievous but the MC who seems actually known that the ML and their kid aren't really going along and plus he is always spoiling his kid not reprimanding and believing hi kid is nice is so naive 🙄 I thought he didn't want his son to end badly but he forgets that or well maybe it's because the storytelling is out of the place. Too much focus on food the title didn't really fit the story there's no guide he is just spoiling his kid... I'm on basically half of the story since it's just 90 plus chapters but I'm already getting impatient. There's barely recognizable development between the leads but the ML just suddenly disappeared, we know that he caught feelings but it seems abrupt and didn't really feel like they had feelings if there's no child there's no feeling at all that they're the protagonist <<less

This nivel makes me so hungry I don't even know what all these dishes taste like in real life but the way the author describes food and how It's made I want it so bad lol XingXing is very cute and his interactions with Ji rongyu are quite amusing. Overall It's a fluffy story with some childcare, still waiting for the romance though, looks like it's smoothly picking up from here.

Maybe I'm not the right audience, but I was bored, very very bored... dropped it around Ch 36

The whole gimmick with the OP CEO ML pretending to be a nanny was just so contrived. For a few days? ok. For like WEEKS/MONTHS/WHO KNOWS WHEN??? no way...

It's so unbelievable that everytime it's mentioned kicks me out of enjoying the immersion of the story. Literally imagine the top investor in the country spending 6-8 hrs a day watching a kid at MC's house... and the kid is literally 3 years old, so... more>> ML needs to actually pay attention. Also, ML is not WFH like most ppl either, he just stares at the kid the entire day at the MC's house (there's literally video footage) or comes out to try to taste his food. Meh.

Spoiler

Also, I don't like extremely long misunderstandings. Imagine if you hired someone to be a nanny but they completely faked all their information. The next day you find out they're a food investor who lied to you. That's... okay, weird but okay. Now imagine this going on for much much longer than that. A normal person would high-tailed it OUTTA there or gotten a restraining order.

[collapse]

I think it's pretty dumb for the author to not address the lies earlier or come up with a different excuse for the ML to stick around.

That said, the kid was cute but like... way too articulate and scheming for a 3 yr old. Did the author ever meet 3 year olds???

Very VERY slice-of-life. The story moved at the pace of molasses. 1/3 of the novel, 36 chapters passed, and almost nothing happened, I'm not even sure if 2 weeks have passed. The events could have been clearly written and paced out in 5-10. I'm not even kidding. The author 100% is milking every single word and line for extra compensation (yes, CN authors on certain sites do get paid for word count, so inflating word count by overdetailing/explaining/dragging things is a very common practice). There will be one event, but then re-described with 5 different POVs... and so on

Finally, the translation was smooth but kind of inconsistent, clearly edited MTL.

Spoiler

EG. Tanghulu (candied fruit) were originally made from hawthorn fruit, a la candied haws or sugar-coated hawthorn, BUT it literally means candied fruit on a stick. It is NOT related to hawthorns anymore. HOWEVER, translator or MTL constantly writes like "strawberry candied hawthorn" which is just plain wrong. You can call it by the culture "strawberry tanghulu" or "candied strawberry" or "sugar-coated strawberries" but please do not say "strawberry candied hawthorn" because hawthorn is a fruit. A strawberry tanghulu has no hawthorns on it.

Also, Sanjiaokou is not a place name. It literally means "traffic at T-intersection, " or basically a really busy street corner where multiple streets (3) connect. So there are literal 30 chapters where Sanjiaokou is capitalized and in pinyin, and then suddenly, in ONE chapter, everything is changed into "Three Corner Street" or whatever, as if it were totally different area, when they are the same place. Clearly, the translator didn't look up this phrase.

Soft-DNF, because I might not come back to finish. It started out pretty hopeful.

I have a special place in my heart for MPreg. I also love it when either the MC or ML is great at cooking. I loved-hated the descriptions of food because it got me super hungry lol and I'm trying to be stricter with my diet.

I like MC. I like MC's kid. I'm ok with the ML.

But I got around the 40 chapter mark and was wondering what the hell was gonna happen next 😭 because honestly... more>> it felt like nothing was happening. It felt like slice of life but not really.

I don't hate it. It's a pretty fun read sometimes with the food p*rn. But like... 75% is food and MC being an awesome cook, 20% talks about baby's cuteness, 5% is ML being enamored by the food and MC, 3% plot, 1% of a few sentences thrown in to remind you that there is a plot and MC had a previous life, etc.

Maybe we get more plot later? I might come back to it in the future. <<less

In short, this is a straightforward romance novel that focuses on child-raising and career-building.

While the plot may not be particularly notable, what truly hooked me into this novel is how lovable the kid, Xing Xing, is. He's smart, cute, and sensible. Most importantly, he actually plays a substantial role in the story, not just being a decorative piece like in many other mpreg novels.

The main character is equally impressive. He is gentle and logical; being very capable and self-sufficient. The fact that he totally puts his heart into raising his... more>> son while building his career from scratch is seriously commendable. I'm a fan of everything from his parenting skills to his business ethics. Although sometimes he gets a little too strict with his 3-year-old, I get it. It's his first time being a parent, but hey,
Spoiler

even as a grown-up, I can't help but feel sad thinking about my parents saying they're disappointed in me. That's too much for a 3-year-old child. I felt heartache for the little one.

[collapse]

Now, here's where things get kind of annoying— the male lead. Ugh, this guy is just all about himself (I won't spoil it, but know that he always acts as he pleases). He likes to act cute to win the MC's favor, but it comes off as anything but cute, and, honestly, he's majorly irritating. Can you believe he befriends the dad but constantly picks fights and tries to outsmart his friend's child? Surely he's infatuated with the MC and can even die for him, but I doubt whether he'd be able to genuinely love and care for Xing Xing if he isn't actually his biological son.

As someone's aunt, I'm convinced that little ones can totally sense who likes them and who doesn't, and the resistance the kids show towards the ML is totally understandable. To be honest, if I were the MC, I wouldn't even consider being with someone who clearly couldn't get along with my kid. Because if it's like this in front, I don't know how he will treat my kid behind my back. In any case, not every kid is as clever and capable of protecting themselves as Xing Xing. It's better to be safe than sorry. <<less

4 for the food.

The romance went from ambiguous to sudden 3rd base, and then to the state of almost stranger before death then reconcile and HE. Common problem of short story focusing on career indeed.

Now, it's rare to have a story where the MC is a father (mother) that rebirth to save his dear son. I must say, it's always rebirth for revenge and rarely like this, and a full story filled with cub rearing and cuteness. Xingxing is so adorable and so scheming for a 3 yo. Haha.

Anyway, the... more>> food part is the one I'm mostly attracted to. Ah, good food always bring joy, isn't it.. <<less

Not too bad.

Pros;

Lovely childcare story with a cute bun.

... more>> eventhough bun is seemingly too smart for a three year old.

interesting food story setup from rags to riches.

cons:

romance seems a bit forced and not too interesting.

the story ended on a cliffhanger sort-of.

would've loved more on XingXing's response to evil nanny uncle being his other dad.

and also some extras on what happens next after both leads are together.

having a pregnancy right after the confession part seems a bit too easy and shortcut way for the romance to progress.

some elements were also confusing.

like protag keeps saying previous life that I kept thinking it was a rebirth but its not. He just transmigrated to this novel world at birth which is why he calls his life before transmigration "his previous life" where he was a cook there. ML's personality is also not my type. He is an irresponsible chuunibyou. When things don't go his way or he gets jealous, he just disappears from the protags life. I hate that. The first time he does that has consequences on the protag's life. The second time he does it also would've caused protag to have a second kid without his knowledge had they not accidentally met up. ML is a scum to me.

I just dropped one novel and now I’m dropping another. I’m dropping this one at 67; 64 if you don’t count skimming over the last 3 chapters.

I won’t lie and say I wasn’t enjoying it at first, because I was. I thought it was fairly cute, but as I continued reading and as the novel became more based on the kids pov rather than the parents I became more and more bored.

Not only did I become bored, but I was found it so unbelievable how the author portrayed this kid.... more>> If he was 5/6 then it would be fine, but for a 3 yo, he was way to smart and scheming.

I got tired of the beef between him and the ML and I got tired of the focus being everything but the MC.

What I will say tho, is that I don’t think it’s fair to call the “drama” (for lack of better term) between the MC and the ML a misunderstanding.

A misunderstanding would imply that one has a preconceived notion or idea about something based on their own bases of thinking without confirmation or communication from the other. However, the ML straight up told him who he was pretending to be. Saying that he was someone he wasn’t so rather than misunderstanding it was just deceit.

Even if the MC asked, and communicated with the ML he still would have been told he was a nanny taking over for his mother who was sick. So, it’s just being liar not misunderstood.

Anyway, I don’t really recommend this to anyone, even though I wanted something mind numbing but cute, it didn’t focus enough on the MC for me to enjoy it and it became a dragggg <<less

It's ok... I guess.....

Cute and fluffy kid.

Business story from scratch to success.

... more>> Story is lengthy because of how the author describe the foods and foodie reactions which is not a bad thing if you're into food-related novel.

Romance is slow. Not so much romantic scene between MC and ML that will make your heart go "doki doki".

I kinda feel sad for the ML actually because eventho he wants to have some moments with the MC there's always a hindrance (the son) or the MC doesn't want to. Tho there's the "snuggles" here and then but that is it, comparing it to a food I say it is BLAND.

The revelation of who the father of Xing Xing is actually SUPER UBER ANTICLIMACTIC. Like the ML just ask questions and then realized that he is the father. No reactions from ML's family and no reaction from the son itself. There's even no reaction from the father itself like wtf LOL. 😂

I don't know why call it extra chapter. Author could've just continue it as is. 🤷

I started the review with 4⭐ but I am now giving it a 3⭐ because I feel more "meh" after I realized I am more, should I say dissatisfied, I don't know how I could I express what I feel in words. Anyway that is it. <<less

I have completed reading this using MTL.

I could say this novel is a not bad novel. However, there are a lot of illogical things.

The ending was also rushed. They didn't discuss how the ML is the real father of his son. There should be a scene where it should be revealed.

... more>> I also don't like the fact that the ML got pregnant because he was intoxicated and drunk because of alcohol and the ML took advantage of it.

The ML was possessive and a bit insecure. Imagine not talking to the MC just because he saw the MC with a man? Like, he could have done better. They fought and he hurted the feelings of MC so he should have apologize sooner for lying.

Also, the talent of MC with cooking is so so exaggerated. This is fiction I know but there are just impossible and illogical part of the story <<less

The only reason I decided to finish this novel was because of the adorable Xing Xing. He was such and endearing and loveable character and the saving grace of this entire novel.

As for the MC, he was a great and dedicated father. I cannot say anything good with the way he handled his relationships though. He came off as someone gullible and easy to get to me. It would have been better if he did not have the tendency to sleep around. However, the fact that he was technically reborn... more>> but still did not learn his lesson not to get drunk because he will end up having s*x with just anyone, I found it quite revolting that he did that so willingly. The first time he got pregnant with Xing Xing should have been enough but he did it the second time. If there's a second time, they'll be a third time and so on and so forth. Imagine he gets drunk in a gathering? He will end up having an or*y then since he can't seem to prevent himself from having s*x whenever his drunk and he easily gets pregnant to boot. Poor Xing Xing. He will have siblings from different fathers everytime.

As for the ML, he ruined this novel for me. He was egoistical, self centered, domineering, liar, and just irresponsible. There was absolutely no valid reason for him to lie to the MC just so he can taste the food he made. What kind of mentally ret*rded reasoning was that? He only did that because he thought the MC was beneath him. He was well off and was always able to get whatever he wanted since he was a child so he will never consider anyone else. He can leave and comeback whenever he wants and the MC will welcome him back with open arms after saying a half hearted sorry and a half baked explanation so he did not lose anything. Just a couple of tears and everythings back to normal. He will lie again and pretend he's a victim given a chance. <<less

Dropped, am at ch 62 and so far there has been absolutely 0 chemistry between the MC and ML. The author has raved on and on and on just about food and recipes and NPCs wowed reaction to every new recipe and it gets boring after a while. Not here to read a cookbook man. The kid is cute but it wears off when there is no actual progression in the story and it keeps talking about food and recipes and random customers reaction to the food. Like the ML... more>> is so rare in the chapters it's like he's a canon fodder and the ML. Darn boring. <<less

3.9 or 4.0, I agree with someone who say that is a bit boring and anti climax, they actually feel a bit dragged at the first and middle part, it's cliche misunderstanding, like they not talk.. They guess each other thinking base on their own standar and the problem solving is just talking (they knew their problem and try to fix it) and the ending is a bit rushed.. Idk maybe bcs author's health.. I remember they wrote note about their health, although I say all of that.. This novel... more>> is good enough to read if u don't have other novel to read <<less

Another food novel that does successfully make you hungry.

It has Lovable and Enjoyable Characters.

Has nice opening and nice ending too!

It successful writing the Drama and the Romance and the Food theme. But indeed I can't call it Spectacular either.

Like how I actually LOVE how the Mpreg revelation for Xing Xing. It was totally not what I expected but I Love how it written.

But the revelation of MC get pregnant on second time known to ML's family, and the revelation of Xing Xing is ML's biological child was Anti Climax.

Sure nothing have to be played dramatic... But dang... No one act surprise or what??

It has Misunderstanding and some Drama. And the Unexpected Blood spilled moment... But thank goodness not a Dog Blood one!

Anyway things are Interesting nevertheless. 8/10 for story + characters. Fun and Lovable! <<less
