I hate this novel. One thing I dont like is that the party themselves are hypocrites. Est here is naive but that stems up from his lack of confidence. He basically stayed in the party because he was hoping that athena would still continue her promise to him. He is trying his best in his own way. I dont like however his act of not clarifying anything. Dale the MC here is like a d*ck. You are close with est but he did not try to clarify the misunderstanding. Athena... more>> is a s*upid character. Prideful but did not try to see her limits. She did not even try to say the reason to est why she needed to banished him. I mean he trusted you with all he had. He knows someday he will be kicked out. At least est deserves an explanation and athena is hoping est will understand. Wow! Implied understanding? No. It wont work that way. It is pretty much shitty. Dropping it <<less

This novels is a solid 3 but some of the other reviews are s*upid so I put it at 5 for the laughs.

I never really liked how in the original perspectives in these "kicked from party" stories the original party is basically SoL. They're written as fodder for the mc/hero of that story. The MC gets their cheat or they stop holding back and the original party is left in the dust. Unable to grow or mature their adventures and whatever dreams they had are pretty much tr*shed. While... more>> yes in a lot of them the party acts like tr*sh I wouldn't blame them since they're destined to be nothing but stepping stones. I'd curse god everyday if that were me.

There were two kinds of stories I thought of that could be interesting when reading those stores one about a party member who learns in some way that their only destiny is to be the catalyst for the kicked out party members growth and decides to say f*ck that to their destiny. The other is this story where the original party despite kicking the future cheat member continues to grow and doesn't look back on their decision.

I've enjoyed what I've read so far. The characters realize that they're not as strong without the lost party member and take the ridicule they get when that member surpasses them. They continue to grow and learn without relying in cheats and learn how to do the tasks they left that member to do because he couldn't do much. I see growth they're not blaming the lost member or begging him back they're actually progressing to become better. The reason they kicked him. To aim higher and ofc not get him killed.

I'm going to use this part to address some of the other reviews.

Spoiler

1. Dale is not close to Est they weren't friends for very long only Athena and Est were if you read as far as you listed you'd know that. Dale didn't even want to join in the first place and the Elf only cares about Athena and is only somewhat curious about Dale. Dale doesn't care much about much I mean his name is a joke on how dull he is, dudes pretty whatever about things.

2. They don't treat him as a s*ave he does it himself to compensate his weakness.

3. They had no way to know how long it'd take for Est to grow stronger or of it'll happen before he accidentally dies in a dungeon. Yes danger comes with the job but why would you want to increase that chance by having Est around. Also to add Dale wanted to keep Est around he was pretty much out voted by the other two. The elf just wants to be around Athena.

4. Dale basically says Est love for Athena is weak because he ran away when seeing them in their weird position. He right, he's the typical NTR cuck who sees his wife about to get railed and watched while jerking off in the closet. Est is unlikable to me as he is relying on his cheat magic too much and I can forsee him getting his sh*t handed to him as in this world you can overpower a stronger opponent if you're more experienced and/or have more skill. Ex: All the times Freya lost in melee despite having a strength/power adv over her opponents due to her racial traits.

Even as someone who dislikes the "Ever since I've been kicked out of my party, I got OP" genre, this novel is borderline unbearable. I thought that this novel would be a unique take on this over-saturated trope, but it culminates in what I can best describe as a dumpster fire.

For context, the description of this novel makes it seem like it will subvert the usual trope by focusing on the party that banished the typical OP MC and regrets it later on. Instead the writer of this novel turns... more>> a power fantasy trope into a POWER FANTASY of a POWER FANTASY. The party characters (who are the main POV) are just unlikeable as a whole. They're selfish, incapable of communicating, lack self introspection, and are just a**h*les.

Dale is the main problem here. There are plenty of reasons why, but if I were to put it simply, he comes across as manipulative and nonsensical, and I can't understand how the writer wanted the readers to view him. Below is just a rant about that.

Spoiler

Dale is just written poorly. VERY poorly. I think we're supposed to like him, and that he's the intended MC of this novel, but holy crap is he obnoxious.

    • He chooses to do nothing about the misunderstanding between Athena and himself to Est. He's just like "oh well Est just doesn't love her enough." Bruh. In Est's eyes his closest friend just betrayed him and basically said his efforts don't amount to anything. His reaction is completely justified. Dale just comes across as scummy and manipulative here.
    • Dale comes across just as useless as Est at the start of the novel. He's literally hanging back while getting carried in the dungeon, and no one bats an eye. At the very least Est was buffing his team. Just makes Est's banishment and their attitude towards him MORE nonsensical.
    • Dale also just thinks that Est is the a**h*le for being mean and c*cky towards the party. While he's kind of right, there is also another problem. Est is JUSTIFIED for it. As the "mature" one in this novel, Dale doesn't even have the balls to try to apologize for anything. Neither does the party.
    • Suddenly, AFTER Est leaves and is rising the ranks, Dale's like "OK TIME TO TRAIN UP FOR PARTY WEAKNESSES" and somehow comes up with great training regiments. Umm Dale. Est wouldn't have had to leave if, uh haha you know... IF YOU TRAINED HIM BEFORE?!?!?!
    • On a side note, the party seems to extend every ounce of sympathy and benefit of doubt to every character BUT Est. They are completely willing to understand a new party member despite her not blending well with the group at first. It's infuriating that this hypocrisy is just brushed aside, and none of them have the self awareness to think about their treatment towards Est compared to this new part member.
    • Est ironically is the character I felt the most sympathy towards. Even though I think the writer intends for him to be both the loser and ONE of the antagonists at some point. The fact that he hasn't moved on to me is understandable but I wish he went through more character growth in time he spent away from the party

Honestly, tags for this novel are just... wrong. This is not a mature or caring protagonist. This is Selfish, Manipulative Protagonist. Overall this story comes across as a dude who wanted the other guy in his party to leave so he could have a harem. Once he leaves, suddenly he reveals he was a genius the whole time! Such a great reveal (It's not).

[collapse]

TLDR: Interesting idea on the whole "Banished --> Instant Zero to Hero" trope, wasted to insert a power fantasy into another power fantasy.

Update: It was "completed" without resolving anything. From what I read with MTL it seems like the author realized how unpopular it was and did a quick and sloppy ending instead of just abandoning it.

Original Review: Short version; Don't read it - I suffered through 44 chapters so you wouldn't have to.

I read the other reviews and thought "it can't be that bad", but wow, it really is. None of the characters are likable and the whole premise is so forced it's just bad/lazy writing.

Spoiler

Dale is a typical Beta-male.

Athena, the childhood friend. She knows she should slow down and let Est become strong safely, but she'd rather rush it. She kicks him out and plays the martyr, saying "I kicked him out so he wouldn't get hurt". She acts like a cold-hearted b*tch when she does it for reasons that only make sense as plot armor.

Some people call Est a crybaby, but his reaction is believable. The woman he loves, whom he trusted, is coldly betraying him. The way she did it was almost like she was trying to get him to kill himself, which he nearly does. Est is the only likable one of the bunch, but he's barely mentioned.

How to make a misunderstanding? Here's another one...

Ok.. The story is about the childhood friend wants to be the best adventure, but then a certain event happened why they banished the support, and here is the reason and POV of each:

Leader (Childhood Friend, woman) : Because she's scared that the Support will die (but didn't tell him, which I find idiotic)

... more>> Mage (Elf, woman) : Because she saw the support weak... And very clingy to the leader (she also likes the leader)

The old guy (only 20 years old, looks like he's the MC) : Not much of the reason, but the same as the mage, very clingy to the leader (idk, we wants harem?)

When I read the reasons, yeah... I find it blasphemous as an adventurer... I mean, being an adventurer, life must be on the stakes... So I dropped it... The misunderstanding continues.. <<less

Some spoilers? Maybe? Idk.
I'm just going to review what I know. And that's not much. It's not the typical split that we see, but instead it is done with a different intention.
even at this point which is almost half way thru what's already Been translated I still cannot tell you...

WHO THE f*ck IS THE MC.

It's so confusing. It doesn't all answer your questions but just adds more!

also if the MC is the "old dude" you've seriously wasted a golden opportunity for the guy who was banished to have a great story where he rises up and has an opportunity to build a good relationship with his old party rather than being resentful. I hate that.

this novel gives me ntr overtones as by like chapter 4.

also on top of that so much could be solved with like a single GD sentence of explanation.
there are so many different points of perspective but the person I assumed was the MC has only gotten a first person pov like twice.
I think the novel had a great direction, and that it was a good switch up from the other stories we've read from before... but from like chapter 5 it's just been crap. The growth is unclear and not documented. Tbh I feel like the whole novel is centered around a man (who is constantly called an old man at the age of 20) and his "harem" that has the "mc's" childhood friend and crush, an elf who is a lesbian for the mc's "crush" and now a dragon woman who is self destructive and and ass. While the only thing we see of the "mc" is he randomly got 2 comrades and hates the old party. Not much to build on.

The MC and FMC are a**holes, the plot is forced, and overall frustrating to read. It's a typical Banished story, except it's told from the perspective of Dale, one of the people who banished Est. They know what they're doing is wrong and selfish, but make justifications and excuses.

Spoiler

All it would take is an apology to help Est, who's clearly still wounded, but despite saying she cares about him the FMC acts like a cold hearted b*tch. When Est becomes successful and calls them out on what they've done, the FMC gets sad for all of 5 minutes before she and Dale seem to decide "oh well, f*ck him, let's go to the dungeon".

[collapse]

The writing itself isn't great. I don't know if the author meant for the characters to be so unlikable and unrelatable, but there's no one to cheer for. I respect that the FMC is still trying to be strong, and that the party is trying to grow, but because of their terrible personalities I keep wishing they'll wipe in the dungeon. <<less

hmm, it's quite new perspective from the one who banished supposedly "MC"

i give 4 stars for the writing.
Spoiler

the author efforts in writing has earned this webnovel series a rank 1 in high fantasy category. Lol

[collapse]

the [huge] minus is for the first arc. i feel little bit conflicted as I read through all 45 chapters.

the development of each character is good. Est in particular, tho he's relying too much in his skill.

and Dale worth are shown in new chapter, how he help the party to develop further.

but if it's that way, why would Athena so rash with her decision to banish Est? While those decision are just a big disrespect to the promise they both made. There should be another way to make Est go to improve himself rather than banishing without proper talk. Why would Dale not act sooner to set the party in the right path with his "experience", but rather played it late? Dale huge bias in treating his party especially est & athena. Considering Est as just a big headed brat with not cute face (after banished) and secretly mocking him for immature display. Well duh, he's practically a little boy (smh) what did you expect? All understanding and gentleman with adult demeanor? And Dale let Athena to came out with the decision and Est lashing out, for me that was just irresponsible things to do as oldest party member. and now Dale focused his attention to other 3 girls. And highly regard Athena. Dale looks like playing favorite here. Sure he have good intention, but for me it's just not right. For me, the presence of Dale are not as good; responsible adult, but still a young lad without good judgement of the situation. He's respected experienced adventurer, truly not a brat caretaker, but willing enough to take care bunch of cute little girl. Throw a gnarly brat (Est) to the jungle full of monster, but he's patient enough to care about Flare rough and irresponsible actions *ugh, I should blame the author for written Dale like this. the misunderstanding that Est was witnessing at that time are not yet to be cleared, but I saw how those "misunderstanding " slowly become true as Athena heart start to change (with her past as her drive)

the scene where Athena seeing Dale as dependable cool man, doesn't sit well with me. Why didn't he use that earlier. *i could be wrong here. So cmiiw*

there's far to much mistakes in the first arc.

Spoiler

i've read the raw version, and Est is getting far more detached from his past self. He's kind but still having a lump inside him although there's 2 chicks beside him. Est is strong, but in fact weaker without the cheat skill (and more weaker in his heart) still trying to provoke Athena to no avail. Athena sure far more calmer but their interactions just got me anxious and mad.

[collapse]

For the next. Dale should do things right about the thing between Est and Athena. if ever in the future development, there's romance between Dale & Athena without ever settling the problem with Est, I would hate the author for real.

*sorry for the continuous edits. Coz whenever I think about this series, new complaint just keep piling up.

So this seems to be like any other banishment novel out there with the exception that it's from one of the party members perspectives. The leader of the party Athena made a promise with her childhood friend Est to become the best adventures on the world but she kicks him out because he's too weak and can get killed. Which doesn't really make sense to me as danger comes hand and hand with being an adventurer and dying at any given moment comes with the job so if she thought... more>> he couldn't cut it she shouldn't have recruited him in the first place. That being said at the very least the decision was logical as Est could not keep up with the rest of the party and he was falling behind so they couldn't progress towards Athena's dream with him around. Est is a naive immature dumbass who threw a fit like a 5 year old when leaving and he didn't understand his childhood friends feelings or motives at all which really shows how little he understands her and himself so I feel bad for Athena as if they had ended up together he not only would be a bad partner but she would be dealing with a man child for the rest of her life. I have no doubt some BS plot armor bullsh*t will awaken in Est and he will somewhat show his party wrong even through that literally proves nothing. If you have read a single banishment novel you literally know how the entire plot will play out this offers nothing new or unique besides the perspective change if tr*sh is your thing go for it. I will update this as more information comes out.

So based on new information Est was smart enough to know he was holding everyone back but selfishly clung onto the party despite knowing his abilities couldn't keep up. He thought that Athena would never leave him which means in some capacity he thought of her as an object and not as a living individuals and he said something bigoted about lesbians. Est is abnormally naive about the world around him and honestly it's concerning. After the king a temper tantrum about leaving the party he storms into a labyrinth alone shouting "I'm going to get stronger" and well and behold he's actually a cheat who could have seen that coming. And despite literally making a scene about them regretting what they did he instantly tries to go back to them. Idk what sort of nonsensical BS is going to happen in the future but this has already reached peak tr*sh so I'm no longer going to update this review as I've stopped reading at this point. Did I give up on this too quickly? Maybe but after the first 3 chapters I'm pretty sure this story does not have a good future you can usually tell at the start of a series is worth sticking around for. If you feel like I'm wrong stick around. <<less

Actual rating is 3.5/4, but because the rating really is too low at the time of writing this I raised it to 5. Many people rate it so low because of the frustrating main characters. But if you'd just look at it from a different POV (and typical japanese MC POV) you'd understand why they acted that way. For example:

Dale as a typical Japanese MC is not used to meddling (especially in his newly formed party and him as an outsider basically). As such, he didnt imterfere with Athena, the... more>> party leader's decision. And he did remind her at the beginning that Est might become better, but she insisted and the decision was made. Along the way seeing the struggle, only then he tried his best to help his party. He's just being realistic given his position. Many may not like his decision, but you need to understand that this is so typical Japanese novels MC that you cant expect anything more. Its ingrained in Japanese culture not to meddle in other people's business, especially when its personal. And from my personal opinion, Dale seemed to respect Athena as she's the one who convinced him to join them. Explains why he's biased to Athena, he kinda has a crush on her (that's the vibe im getting from his inner monologue anyway). For Est, at his age being "betrayed" by his childhood sweetheart will make anyone bitter like he is, and their interactions along the way didn't help either. This novel (might) be his journey to his growth (?)

And lastly the core and sole reason of the drama, Athena. I agree that she's the most annoying, but she has a trauma that her friend died, so to some extent makes sense that she's the way she is. And there are character development for her, so I'm willing to bear it for now and see where this goes.

This novel is at least better in term of concept than many japanese novels out there, and I'm willing to give it a go based on the fresh concept of the abandoning party's POV alone. Might not be perfect, but it's OK to give it a go and see if this is to your tastes. <<less

MC and FML suck, the one that got banished is more likable and he is supposed to be sort of an antagonist or whatever the heck, plot is real bland basically like every other harem crap but this one rubs me the wrong way since they did dirty so far on childhood friend and MC well, can't blame him to take advantage but all in the initial party seem like big hypocrites totally unlikable, so far had enjoyed more the banish dude pov and he is not even the MC....

More than anyone in the cast, the japanese main character Dale is the biggest problem in this story. It’s one thing for him to not meddle in the situation, but it really doesn’t help his case that he’s so cobdescebding towards Est.

Mfer did nothing, he WORSENED things between the two childhood friends, and it seems like he’s getting this happy little harem around him. If this isnt NTR bait, its rage bait, and I’m almost impressed by the author knowing how to goad people to keep reading it, but I... more>> feel this is more him self-projecting to his work. <<less

tbh I never like kick out from hero party trope but srsly this sh*t is on another level. First they Banished est from party and still act like they did good things. Bruhh at least tell him that you guys kick him out because you guys were concerned for him.

anyway author did est dirty, if only that childhood friend and so called old guy MC tell him everything then he won't act like a villain.

srsly author why making est antagonist? What's his fault? If you really wanna make someone villain... more>> then MC villain because that guy f*cking love ntr <<less

The author tries subvert the betrayal genre but fails because he doesn't seem to understand why character tropes exist in the first place and why readers invest and empathise or hate them. If you make the villains the lead characters their personalities can be that they either don't care they're tr*sh or realists or have a good justification that made them that way. The narcissistic hero / noble / ex party who have hypocritical moral justifications are the bad guys because readers hate them, they need to go through redemption... more>> and character growth for the reader to like and empathise with them.

The start was quite good kicking out and the reason because his weak is quite common but realistic but why are they stuck on est dying, adventurers put their life on the line in dungeon while the first chapter gave a good start on the time est awaken on the night he came to visit and misunderstood that his crush and the old guy have a relationship is understandable but why did the old guy though about cuckolding the bro whyyyy hey author did you watch to much NTR ???... more>> Then you should write one not in this novel please. I can say that while the story progress it will follow the trope of lazy op MC and teacher all knowing op and secret identity MC its like you've mash up all cool and famous type of MC into one bro it look like crap promise while they've been party for a loooong time before kicking est out why didn't they had a deep bond like bro a acquaintance of a week have stronger bonds than them in there line of work knowing each other well is a vital part of being an party and if you make the old guys op and smart knowing all as sh*t then you've fck yourself in the ass look 1 month in a party with the dragon girl made him little by little improve the party why god knows how long his with est and the party why didn't he help the improve hushhh while I know he teaches est the basics of the basics thats need being a solo adventurer that made est a fckng simp why didn't do what he did in the party with frey when est still a mem do the parties have limits in how many members they have that it has to be 4 mems only from what I can see in other adventure novel they can be as many as 6 or more and why don't you focus on est character build and from the chapter 13 I can he that he'll be dependent in his grant magic that will make him from cheat to tr*sh I can say the stardust party will have a character development and why do you make est a bad guy while its the stardust is at fault please put more thoughts on est character build and dont put anything thats pops on you brain he had a good potential and he can change while I think you should add in the future chapter a character that will be his redemption from that b*tchy crush of his the guys deserves a better girl for new reader it's a good start but for old ones like me this plot and twist look like mashup ideas and anyway its not that bad but please change that fckng ntr cuckold mindset and the old guys it's turning us off while NTR is good material for jerking and dark MC development its not in this novel yes the MC is turning dark but his turning and naive dark not the ruthless one nor cold its just like he's on puberty and being self-centered anyway if this novel reach 70 chapters I'll try reading it again to see if you really think sh*t or you've made a great plot ill be waiting good luck author <<less
