When I opened my eyes, it was the day I first came to this world. ‘What a crap world.’

Power, status, money, connections, talent – I had none of it. Well, talent, I did have. I just discovered it too late.

‘This time, I won’t live like that, for sure.’?”

Here is a summary of the full review from my blog-

This novel follows a common regression trope where the main character (MC) from Earth is transported to a dark fantasy world, becomes a s*ave, suffers ab*se, dies, and then regresses to the moment he first entered the world, now armed with knowledge from his first life. The MC isn't naïve, and while he treats people with kindness, he often rationalizes it as cruelty or realism. The setting is compelling enough, and the characters, though two-dimensional, are consistently written.

The novel begins... more>> mostly in first-person, but as the chapters progress, it incorporates more third-person scenes. The descriptions are decent, though the novel suffers from excessive internal monologues. The MC often over-explains his rationale, which leads to unnecessary repetition and word padding, making it feel slow and dull.

A major issue is the lack of a clear overarching plot. The MC's primary goal is simply survival, and after the early chapters, he faces little real threat. The world-building is minimal, especially since the MC spent his first life as a s*ave and didn't learn much about the larger world. The author later introduces a plot about the church being the enemy and invaders from another world, but it feels too convenient and lacks depth.

The MC also enters a quick relationship, but the romance is shallow and undeveloped. Additionally, the author awkwardly spares a female character who wronged him in both lives, which feels inconsistent.

Ultimately, this dark fantasy novel is predictable, with decent planning and world-building but lacking in conflict and excitement. It's a 6/10—readable but not particularly engaging. <<less

Honestly, the novel is like a 4 (for me) but I'll rate it a 5 to show my support as I actually find it pretty interesting and relatively well-written. Also, props to the translation team, y'all are doing fine work here!

1) What is about?

Is a OK popcorn type, but not outstanding, smooth necromancer story.

Well done basic, if generic story, about timetravel mind to the start and get OP quick making use of future events and honed skills with toothless dangers/enemies and many chances of quick improve strength. With a competent and not suicidal MC that is able to leverage his advantage for a smooth improvement, he is seen to handle situation in pragmatic manner when needed and is not the super dense type so don't expect the "will they"... more>> drama and being surronded by quick obedient and competent companions make them fine if not bland.

Regarding the Powersystem, the necromancer tech tree is very classic, skeleton+zombies+ghosts -> elite versions -> with some abomination to spicy things up and he eventually control hundreds of undead with variety of quality lvl, that is a big plus.

There are hint of originality with in the magic system with "zombies eating corpse to make special props", "temporary fortress" and "Pale Architeture - using bodies to make special buildings", but they kind go start and stop without playing anything more.

While the Plot better than generic ones and have some twists is relative straightforward and you can see the end of each arc relative quick as the MC is never in any real danger or any draw back for what he does.

2) Why 3 Stars?

Is very a "safe" story, the plot is ok enough to keep reading, the necromancer is a interesting magic system, the supporting characters aren't annoying, dumb or useless. (Beside the half-elf lady and her arc) While a rather active MC is a good enough to read.

Is just is forgettable, the hints of interesting come and go, I believe the greatest problem is the lack of real "threat" to the MC and his smooth improvement. This mean that we lack interesting battle, exploration magic system and plot. Lacking that, if had something better than the inoffensive personality and interaction of the character including the MC, it could have been a 4 stars. <<less

It's a fairly good read, even if the plot is nothing mind-blowing the writing style is better than average. I'd say it's over middle of the ballpark, 3.5ish. Story premise:

MC is a transmigrator and regressor. He has a natural compatibility with demonic stuff, which makes his magic lean towards the darker side of things (as if the title wasn't a dead giveaway). The big protagonist uniqueness comes from being able to use that affinity to make a sort of 'empty contract' with nothing, basically a bridge for mana from the... more>> demon realm for him to use. Which shouldn't be possible.

Plot starts on the second round. In the first go he was new to the world so almost immediately fooled and forced into s*avery, then passed around before falling under control of a more powerful warlock & demon that wanted to use him as a vessel for a descent into the world. That situation didn't end well for any of the parties involved. This time around he's keeping things under wraps, powering himself up a lot easier because it's a path he's already familiar with, getting FLs as allies using event knowledge, setting up the groundwork for avoiding bad things that will happen, building a support base, grabbing valuables that haven't been discovered at this point in time, etc. General regression hijinks, nothing too new so far. He's mostly in it for himself, not aiming to be a hero or save everyone.

-----------------------------------

If I have a criticism, it's however many chapters in and I'm still wondering when the title is going to be relevant. The one indication so far has been from a character who was in process of being removed from the plot by him anyway. We're told how being a warlock/necromancer is a massive red flag, but everyone he's let onto the secret (first the FLs, then some others) seem pretty chill about it after initial surprise. And not particularly bothered about being combat buddies with someone's skeleton.

I mean, there are reasons built for each main character being on his side that get stronger over time, and groups allied with him do so because they need his support, but I'd think on a purely cultural upbringing & common sense level people would be a little less nonchalant and accepting about that. In general everyone seems to be willing to trust him with their lives, families and valuables within a few days of meeting.

-----------------------------------

Translation is solid, few mistakes but overall everything is nicely coherent. <<less

It's okay, and really that's it. The story never devolves to tr*sh, nor does it ever overachieve to make it genuinely good. It is in an infinite stalemate in between with decent everything. The premise / world background is really the Novel's only saving grace.

Periodically there will be contrasting world settings and seemingly mistypos/confusing details/reasons, which is likely translation errors, but it isn't one of those novels where the MC is a dumb fk, but he isn't overly smart either.

The author does a really good job on drawing out the... more>> story without too much filler. I honestly have no idea how the fk to explain the story possitives/negatives.

The only main negatives I have to say is that the story is in a harem. 25 chaps in all 3 main side characters with him are girls, a s*ave, a loli, and a newbie assassin chick. There hasn't been any romance romance so far but it will definitely devolve, especially as more characters are included into his party.

With how borderline okay the story is staying, I rather use my time to find gems in the novel list or keep reading amazing novels like Surviving the Game as a Barbarian or tr*sh Of The Counts Family (though I argue this one fell off) <<less

It's a solid but flawed story. The premise is interesting, and I do like the various characters, but compared to other stories there's a certain lack of excitement to be had.

Flaw #1 - there's some occasional repetitive writing, not too common, but shows up enough to be noticeable. When the character thinks X, then says aloud X, then restates X, it's pretty obvious that the author was trying to pad out the wording a bit. I've seen more egregious cases so it's not that bad here.

Flaw #2 - a lack... more>> of depth in the writing. The combat isn't very exciting. The characters are interesting but the dialogue is just serviceable. The MC spends a lot of time musing about his plans and his decisions, why he chose to do X instead of Y, and while it's somewhat interesting, it's not exciting. Overall, it feels like trying to narrate the playthrough of a strategy game from the perspective of a veteran player.

I'm still giving it 4 stars because there's just enough action, comraderie, and plotting to whet my appetite. But the writing could really be better. It seems to be focused more on world building and advancing the plot to the detriment of other aspects. <<less

It's interesting and the relationships and characters are strong, but there is a distinct lack of tension throughout. I was never really worried about the outcome of any particular battle or ploy. Also, although necromancers in general are despised, the MC forges strong connections with most characters he meets and experiences a much more pleasant second life. Just thought that was relevant based on the title of the work.

The first thing that I'll say is it's a dark slice of life management novel.

While in itself this novel is decent, there are things it doesn't do great. However, I see no reason to get into it as other reviews cover everything extremely well.

Instead, let me complain and warn those who haven't started yet.

... more>> The necromancer is NOT despised.

I thought it would be a deep drama with an anti-hero MC, but I got a slice of life waifu collector (this is an overstatement, but I simply hate harems). All he does is amass power. (To be fair it doesn't have a drama tag, I had to double check, my bad.)

Regardless, I am sure someone will make the same mistake as me.

You were warned.

Oh and if you're looking for a good novel that has drama. Try I became the Necromancer of the Academy. That one covers this topic from a different angle.
